Starion Tactics

From the outset, I like this game. It does what it sets out to do very well. That said, I won’t be playing it because it’s not my style of game. It’s not a space 4x game but a casual simplistic strategy came set in a space theme.

What the game appears to be from the advertising is a simplified, casual, 4x turn-based space strategy game. It isn’t. I could really enjoy a game like and keep playing it for a lengthy period of time. It needs to have just a few more mechanics and a few more complexities to be a 4x. For example, there is no eXplore in this 3x game. That goes along with no research, no empire management, no ship customization, no planetary development. Well, heck, it’s not a 4x game at all! That’s my one warning, you will be very upset if you buy this expecting that (yes, I know it says it on the store page advert, honestly I don’t know why they would advertise it as such). Let me explain what it actually is.

Don’t compare this with 4x advanced space strategy games. Because its not! But in a good way, read on!…

This is more like a space board game or at least you can play it like that. And its easy to get used to, no HUGE manuals needed. For example: You don’t need to research, mine or collect money by trade. Just invade planets and you get those resources added to your bank so you can build better ships for your invasions. Play against Ai players or team up against them. Or why not against human players online? The choice is yours.

Even with it’s problems it is the best way to play Rome Total War. Wish the new menus and intros were better and wish it got more updates and also that co-op campaigns would be added. Other than that it’s a great looking game and a lot of fun.

This is honestly the space game i was searching for on steam! it may have been released 2002 but this game plays and feels like a grade A space RTS. I really like how fighters engage other fighters, it looks way better than how Sins and Empire at war would do it, fighters will turn into each other a little less than sweaw but not over shoot like sins which makes dogfights fun to watch. Explosions look extraordinary! Ships will break apart upon destruction and taking down a military space base is all to satisfying. In short this is a must have for those who love games space rts games.

The game is fun has heck but few problems with the game is not enough ships no fast forward 20% of the ships are broke as shit like try using the supply ship see how fast your game crashes :P theres alot of problems like some maps will crash if you cap a planet and theres planets thats uncapable which sucks! like huge ones…uncapable and 10%? give or take planets are broke meaning you cap it you crash theres alot of problems but well worth it! i even noticed the fighters are sooooo much better then the rest lol due to the damage over time and their dodge rates cuz they move around and they dodge everything BUT rockets rockets are hate seekers so be warned but other then that i give it a 8/10

AMAZING GAME I LOVE WHEN MY BOAT HAS TIRE MARKS 10000/10

Water Drift is a reskinned clone of another game likely by the same developer, Space Ship DRIFT . Once again, it’s a sluggish, uncooperative racer built on low res textures and frustrating physics. With only one ship, one track, and no customization or modes to choose from, you’ll see everything it has to offer in a single lap.

Looking past the aquatic scenery, this app has déjà vu written all over it. The following is largely lifted from my review of its aforementioned predecessor, released just a month earlier:

First off you may want to know that this game is being developed by one person. The dev has been active on the forum responding to every person so far. He has within 2 days of release patched the game 3 times to to add or change things requested by various players. He has been responsive and polite.

I have really been enjoying the game after I spent 3-4 hrs of starting a game, learning something new, then restarting and learning something new and restarting again until I felt like I finally knew what was going on. So far this game runs smoothly without any hic-ups or any other game breaking bugs that I have noticed, yet. Most all the info you need to play the game can be found in-game in the help section(hotkeys are listed in there) and the video tutorials section. What you can’t find there can be found in the manual.

Simple Space 4X with quite a few neat ideas, with significant bugs and balance issues. Occasionally you glimpse great game buried here, but in the end these bugs and balance issues are too much for game to shine.

But in the end, thumbs up for good ideas and price,

Heathen Engineering’s Terran

Heathen Engineering’s Terran

This is one of the worst games I’ve ever played. Complete waste of money. It should be withdrawn from the market until it is more than a shell of a game.

The tech tree is extremely thin. Only 3 branches, and a depth of 5-10 in each of the sub elements. Dull.

The ability to customise fleets is poor, limited to the balance of 6 standard ship classes from corvette to dread. No ability to customise ships, just general upgrades to attack/defence/speed/cost as one of the 3 tech tree branches.

It’s very buggy. Frequently, the game hangs and sometimes you can recover by restarting, but not always.

Great game, I liked the build system its only limited by your imagination.

The game is by far from finsihed and is in its infant stage but I can’t wait for it to be finished.

The Dev team are very quick in responding to questions and input which is very nice to to see.

Void Destroyer 2

Early access review to be updated at release.

I’ve spent around 70 hours playing this game until I reached the end of the current story missions (early access) with another 30 hours spent fallen asleep with the game open at various points throughout.

This is the best spacecraft combat game I have ever seen, period. And I’m kind of a fan of the genre. I’ve played the legendary Independence War: 2 Edge of Chaos with its amazing controls, story and combat. The equally revered and economically focused X3: Terran Conflict, its 1.5 style expansion Albion Prelude, and the good at piracy but nothing else X: Rebirth. I love the indie games like the arcady SPAZ/SPAZ2, Funny/Simple 3030 Deathwar, the very charming and intense submarine stealth style of Objects in Space, the small scale survival of the Evochron series, the stylish but shallow Rebel Galaxy and the very promising Starsector with its focus on fleet combat and even empire building. I conquered galaxies in the truly excellent Sword of the Stars and the be-the-space-pirate-bastards-that-bother-4X-players-in-their-early-game Distant Worlds: Universe, managed a space station and fleets in Halcyon 6, watched armadas annihilate eachother in Sins of a Solar Empire and carefully managed limited resources while running from an ancient enemy in Homeworld 1/2. Truly great experiences we are all very fortunate to have been able to enjoy and which shaped my expectations and standards for quality.

First and Only review to anything. So here is what the game is and about.

Void destroyers 2 is an Early Access, Indie, Strategy, Sci-fi Space Sim. Its always nice to start off with pretty much nothing and working your way up into something powerful or a fleet of something powerful. For Void destroyers 2, it does just that. To becoming something powerful you will be needing money, and reputation. Money is the big part, but reputation gives you access to buying bigger ships of different factions.

Rank: Warmaster

Rank: Warmaster

Rank: Warmaster is a brand new take on the space game genre which combines elements of Space Combat Simulators, RTS, and 4X games into a cohesive whole. Take command of any and every aspect of your corporation, from the large scale decisions of research and territory acquisition, all the way down to the piloting of individual ships, where you focus your attention is entirely up to you.

When civil war between the Central Earth Government and a collective council of corporate interests suddenly erupts, Earth’s Defense Grid is compromised in the chaos. With all ships marked as hostile by the grid, Earth has been fully isolated from the rest of the solar system. You take on the role of a corporate settler who has just been stranded on Mars. Trapped in an underground shelter, your only assets are a Builder Bot, a handful of construction resources, and an instructional contingency AI named Ares. From these lowly origins you must first build a city, and then assemble a fleet of remote controlled warships to secure territory and advance your technology. Be quick about it, too, because you aren’t the only one out here. Every other major corporation launched its own settlers to escape the devastation, and soon you’ll find that there’s just not enough solar system to go around.

A One of a Kind Experience:

Rank: Warmaster combines the best parts of the 4X, RTS, and Space Flight genres bringing a new depth to all three. Build your cities in real time and raise up fleets to defend them. First plot your conquest across Mars, and then the rest of the solar system. Order your fleets into engagements with enemy forces and, when the battle needs a personal touch, freely drop in and take direct, first-person control of any of your ships. When the ship you control is destroyed, instantly jump into any other ship you control, on or off the battlefield, with no respawn timer.

Unique Granular Damage System:

Every part of every ship is individually damaged and destroyed. Penetrate the hull to damage the critical systems held within. Enough damage will see a ship fully perforated, allowing weapons fire to pass through one ship and into another. With careful shots enemy ships can be left disabled rather than destroyed, the better to salvage them and reverse engineer their technology.

Customize Your Ships Using a Vast Web of Technologies:

There are many tools at your disposal, victory will rely on picking the right ones. Research new weapons and components and then use the ship builder for full customization of your ships including armor thickness, shield strength, and even weapon and component placement. With no set mounting points or number of components the only placement limit is the ship’s available internal space. Design the perfect ship manually or with assistance from the auto-build functions. Focus on the technologies that suit your strategy, but beware that your enemy can display just as much variety as you. You will be forced to adapt your designs or be left in the dust.

Customize Your Corporation:

Create your own corporation with unique qualities to suit your preferred play style. Is your shield technology miles ahead of the competition? Perhaps your ships are optimized to allow more components to fit in the same amount of space. Maybe nobody knows explosives quite like you. The bonuses and penalties you select before the game even starts will be with you for your entire campaign, irrevocably changing the course of your destiny.

Command as you Will:

A suite of AI helpers allow you to focus on the aspects of the game you love the most and leave the management of everything else to the AI. Whether you want to focus on developing your cities and technology, strategically commanding your conquering fleets, or if you just want to be the best pilot in the solar system you have the freedom to play your way. If you prefer human management bring in friends and divide the responsibilities of empire management between you, the AI doesn’t know the difference. For a more competitive experience players can form their own corporations and challenge each other for final dominion of the solar system.

Explore a Hostile Solar System Full of Surprises:

As you expand your sphere of influence an AI storyteller will present events and situations which bring new depth to your story. Some of these will be random while others will be placed at game start; waiting to be discovered. The solar system hides many secrets both mysterious and mundane. Carefully navigating the evolving narrative will yield potent rewards of technology and resources, while the careless and unlucky will suffer brutal setbacks. Adapt to unforeseen circumstances as space itself becomes another opponent to be challenged and overcome. At the end of your journey face off against the forgotten colonists of Alpha Centauri, who seek to reclaim their home system.

TL;DR

Campaign achievements not unlocking after the first mission. Robot voice may overlap during gameplay depending on how rapidly one presses targetting or speed matching keys and abruptly ends during loading screens. Music also ends abruptly during loading screens. Sound levels cannot be independently adjusted, infact it cannot be adjusted at all in-game. Other than that this game is close to AAA standard in presentation; graphics, voice acting, cutscenes and music. Considering that all development it’s mostly done by a one man, it’s really very impressive. Shaun T Williams is probably as talented as Chris Roberts of Wing Commander, Privateer and Freelancer fame
