Chess Knights: Viking Lands
It’s been a while since I played chess and when I tried this game I could remember that beginner feeling.
I Recommend this game for those who like chess and also likes a good mind challenge.
I liked some scenario items left behind … buckets, wooden decks and wagons that block areas in board, these kind of things got rid of predicables movements and make things more challenging. I also liked the way some parts got half-covered by snow, this increase the challenge and make me think twice on choosing where to move … specially against Bishops. A little suggestion to improve a sense of progress could be some kind of icon or text that tells the current chapter and stage.

Move chess knights across varying boards to pick up pieces from one square and return them to home squares while avoiding being taken by AI driven enemy pieces.
There are a lot of issues here, the difficulty wildly varies, though ultimately never gets particularly clever and many of the puzzles become just a matter of moving one of your safe pieces back and forth until the board state lets you win.
Some levels try to limit that which is where you feel a sudden difficulty spike which just ends up being more frustrating than challenging.

Rubikingdom
Took a chance on this one since it had been out for almost four months and had no reviews, but looked really interesting.
The game IS actually very interesting, but I am refunding it because it’s not quite ready for prime time AND it hasn’t been updated since mid February so I’m afraid it’s abandoned. If it’s not abandoned, and continues to be worked on, I do plan to re-purchase it because I think it will be a fun and reliable little time-waster.
Play is turn based in the way that a game like Civ is turn-based. You start a turn by choosing what to do to your various tiles–your tiles are the ones that are showing, the top tiles on the cube. You can work the tiles, meaning you extract resources from them, or scout them for enemies, or improve them so that each turn will reap more resources. Resources at the beginning of the game seem to be food, gold, wood, and iron. If there are more resources later, I don’t know. Could be?

Kanso
How to describe Kanso? Well, you play with your mouse, and you have to draw a line around a shape! Sounds pretty simple right?
This is one of those relaxing, zen like games, where you think everything is all easy and simple, but quickly you realise that things take some skill. This is a “line following” game. Everything is very bright and colourful and really is a joy to play.
As you draw around the shapes, there are “Koi like Daemons”, they kind of look like giant sperms, or perhaps tadpoles, they are on their own little journey, come into contact with them and you will have to start again. As you draw your line, you cannot go backwards, only forwards, but you can speed up or slow down, or even stop, that will allow you to avoid the Daemons, and finish the shape. As you progress through the levels, the shapes become more interesting and there are more Daemons to avoid, some will try to follow you, some will avoid you, some do not care about you. But you must always care about all of them if you want to progress.

StarStruck
This game is so beautiful, clever, and challenging! I had such a blast playing it, and though there were a few laggy bits along the way, the experience and creativity far outweighed any complaints I may have had. The changing mechanics throughout were so fun to figure out and kept me fully engaged and immersed, and the music and sound design were so well crafted and didn’t feel repetitive despite the need in games of this sort to attempt levels many times over! I highly reccomend this game for anyone who wants to challenge themselves, anyone who likes platformers, and anyone on the hunt for new and beautiful indie games! This game was such an impressive debut for Dev/designer Taylor Cochrane and my fingers are crossed for a follow up game in the future!

Fun as hell! Try playing it with a controller instead of keyboard if you can, it’s way easier that way. Highly recommended!

Seduction

Skyward Descent
A really compelling game, I started it up to see what the deal was and immediately lost half an hour to it.

The game is very easy to pick up and play, and for the most part the gameplay is easy to understand. There are a few things that are frustrating to me playing this game, though.
After defeating a boss, if you haven’t taken any damage, you get an option to shuffle around some of your stats. I’ve gotten options like “+30 HP & -30 HP” multiple times, which is incredibly frustrating because it makes one of your options useless. There is another power up called “Lucky Items” that is supposed to give you more stat boosts in the game, but I never noticed any difference when I got it.

Munin
I picked this game up as a fan of Daedalic’s point’n’click adventure games, and because I was intrigued by the inspiration the game took from Norse mythology. I was underwhelmed on both points… and yet I have a hard time giving the game a thumbs-down.
On the mythology side, Munin features some really beautiful artwork in its title screens for each world in the game, complete with strong original poems inspired by Old Norse poetry. These manage to create a strong atmosphere for the game, and a sense of being part of a mystical world… which does not translate at all to the gameplay. Munin essentially takes the standard “X has lost his Y, and must regain it by collecting lots of Z” storyline, fills in X, Y, and Z with Norse inspiration, and then slaps it onto a puzzle game. In short, the setting and story are far less relevant to your motivation to proceed than your standard “must solve puzzles and collect lots of Z” gamer mindset.

Munin is a great puzzle/platformer game. It doesn’t do anything groundbreakingly innovative, but it sticks to a formula that has proven to work with indie platformers and they have executed it in a unique and captivating way.
So if you can’t tell the game’s lore is Norse. It fits the game and genre well. I have never played a Norse game like this and the story or informative pieces of the game are conveyed through short snipets of dialog about each of the worlds at the beginning of each chapter. They provide neat little background information.
