It needs some polish, but I will be hoping for updates to make the posing more flexible.

The forearm sorely needs a way to be rotated on more than one axis so you can turn the wrist and minor things like that.

But besides minor bugs and that this is the best Rock’Em’Sock’Em Robots type thing I have ever played lol.

Visuals are crisp and clear, game design is very intentional. Sense of space in this game is a bit more open that traditional decent clones, and level designs offer unique combat encounter which will always challenge the player while offering opportunities to innovate tactically. If you are not a fan of the neon aesthetic or feel like the graphics are too simplistic, don’t let that dissuade you. Heck of a lot of fun to play with a HOSAS setup.

Shoot your way through a neon maze filled with hostile drones and battle robot bosses with cool weapons. It’s highly addictive and after each completed stage I was thinking one more! Catchy music too.

Desecrators

Desecrators

OK, first off I was a big Descent fan and more recently a fan of Overload but it didn’t have coop. For me, I thought that was a mistake.

Then along comes Desecrators. It seems to be a cross between Forsaken mostly, and partially Descent. The graphics look cool but are somewhat retro looking. The tanks remind me of Forsaken and the rest, Descent. And best of all, it has coop!!!

The most critical aspect of a 6DoF game is the ship control. The ship control is spot on with the default settings. It feels perfect and very neutral. You can also toggle auto ship leveling. The game allows you to rebind keys and has full controller support.

Another great indie 6DOF game ! 🙂

Desecrators is really promising and already pretty damn good despite being early in development, there’s lot of potential here to create a one of it’s kind 6DOF game.

Good controls, it’s fast and responsive, really nice feeling piloting the ship with just the right amount of inertia.

The weapons are satisfying and there’s many different to use.

Desecrators also have great retro graphics style which remind me of Forsaken.

The levels are procedurally generated so we get a new experience each playthrough and that’s pretty nice !

DRONE The Game

DRONE The Game

One hell of a game. Although still a prototype, I think you’ll enjoy the public release. I was a backer for this project and I can say that the money I spent was more than worth it. If you paid mind to the game’s info, you likely saw the 12 backer tiers. I started out at Tier 2 (“Traveler”) when I first heard of the game. When they released the multiplayer demos I couldn’t wait, so I bumped up to Tier 3 (“Explorer”) a few months later. Last year I decided to upgrade to Tier 4 (“Operator”), and as of 2 July 2019 I ended up upgrading to Tier 5 (“Engineer”) because this game really has turned out so well. If you needed proof for how much these guys delivered, here you go.

This game showed significant promise in its early stages, and the main draw for me was being able to build and fly my own little fighting drones in the editor - with the hope of eventually being able to create land-based units with tank treads or mechanical legs.

However, development on this title unfortunately seems to have slowed to a complete halt: there hasn’t been an update, not even a bugfix, in over a year, and there’s been no word on how development is progressing in about 6 months.

They succeeded in their promise of delivering a functional drone editor, but even then a good portion of its features and place-able parts are unfinished, and at the moment users are restricted to basic cubes which they can cut into other shapes, as opposed to the totally freeform shapes seen in prebuilt designs. There’s also the slight issue of players being able to min-max their builds to obscene effectiveness by just putting a bunch of wings or something.

Geocore

I just met a very dedicated and pretty cool game developer, psionik, and took a ride with him and 2 other Descent Rangers through his game Geocore, which is available on steam. The game is in alpha and about to go beta so for the small $10 fee I got it. After a quick but in-depth set-up I hopped into the Fury, complete with an arsenal of weapons that could rip a tank a new one and we toured the map. This overcharged pyro-style wonder has got the feel down. I mean it could fly like D1 with the right tri-chording feel, it has the after burners, weapons and feel of D2 & D3 too. To say the least, I was impressed. The other rangers were also impressed and I just wanted to give him a thumbs up and a recommendation and provide a video link of the match we just had. http://www.twitch.tv/tsunami_k/v/33285714 If you have questions you can find him in the mumble chatroom mumble.descentrangers.com on port 31393.

I really want to advocate for this title, but unfortunately, it seems that the developer has moved on to other endeavors (no updates since 2018.)

As of right now, it generates random levels in single-player which you just sort of… go through until you die? I haven’t found an end to one yet, and likely won’t.

The weapons you’re given seem fine, but the aiming feels sluggish even after increasing the mouse sensitivity.

Overload

Overload

Overload is a Six Degrees of Freedom first person shooter with a single player story mode, replayable challenge modes with leaderboard, and online multiplayer. If you enjoyed Descent, you will enjoy this. But why? What about this game is special?

  1. The Nostalgia

The moment you teleport into Ymir Outpost and start moving around, you already begin to recall the feeling of the original series. The first secret you discover. The first robot that pops out of a secret room after you trigger it. The first time a Scorpion surprises you. The first cryotubes you rescue. The first secret level you find. You will remember everything you loved about the original game as you get introduced to some of the new concepts that Overload brings to the table.

The crew from the classic Descent games returns for a modern incarnation of the 6-degrees-of-freedom games we all know and love. There are three primary game modes available:

Single Player Campaign

Much like the old-school shooters it draws influence from, the biggest draw in this game is easily the single player campaign. The Cronus Frontier campaign is no-nonsense, fast-paced action. While a little bit shorter compared to the classics of old, the overall level design and difficulty balance is much more polished. With five selectable difficulty levels, both directionally-challenged newbies and challenge-seeking veterans should be able to find some enjoyment here. The upgrade system offers a nice bit of flexibility to your playstyle and nicely rewards those with a keen eye for secrets. My only criticisms are that I found most of the boss fights to be somewhat underwhelming, and that some players might find the lack of mission variety to grow a bit repetitive by the end.

Red dust

Red dust

Dev updated easy mode turret reaction times to be much more manageable for my boomer reflex and eyesight and I got around to beating it on easy. Getting better at normal+, still cbt, but you learn to enjoy the pain. Alright game, niche audience. Still needs work, particularly with sanity checks on where things can spawn.

Inspired by Receiver, but hardcore for the wrong reason IMO.

  • The wide open map allows turrets to easily spot and fire on you without any half decent warning outside it’s alerted beep .25sec before it swiss cheeses you. [Dev was kind enough to change this in easy mode, so you can recover from your mistakes. Thank you.]

This game is highly enjoyable but rough around the edges.

Pros:

-Headpat catgirls

-Freely mixable ammo types

-Red dust resource forces some hard decisions

-Good Enemy types that keep you on your toes

Cons:

-Level is a bit too dark even outside an eclipse

-Enemies are hard to detect (They have a dim white searchlight that has no real cone)

-No big indoor complexes to clear

Nitpicks / Nice to haves for Red Dust 2:

-Enemies in RD have a weakpoint but no component failure modes like in Receiver this makes the gun play feel lacking

This is a realy good game i extermly recommend playing this but there are somethings i would suggest to be changed in the campaine i think it would be better if you got to know the end boss guy more because you dont realy know him also the tractor beam it a little glitchy bacause when you use it somethins the gun doesent go into your hand

Great game!

even tho its kinda short, it´s a lot of fun and the mechanics are awesome.

I honestly have only one small problem with it, and that’s that the “tractor beam” sometimes doesn’t work right on the first try.

AI Drone Simulator

AI Drone Simulator

It has what it promised. I brought this to practice for real fpv. It does feel natural once you calibrate to your own quad (and this is a BIG thing). It has a very detailed and precise adjustements for the quad dimensions, weight… The presets are fun to discover possible new real drones to buy. The moving objects are quite fun to practice chasing around.

The only thing I might say it needs a bit more work is the map editor. But is okay once you get used to it and the good thing is that has the option to edit rather than not have it.

Initial Impression (Played on Oculus Rift, 3 Sensors)

What I think I’m experiencing is a huge sandbox-type game, where you are a futuristic ‘Omega Man’ (Charleston Heston old Sci-Fi movie) trying to figure out what is going on, and trying to survive at the same time.

Pros

  • What an enormous-sized sandbox to play in. It gives a good feeling of what it might be like to be alone in a city. It makes me feel like I was walking through the abandoned set of an old sci-fi film, ‘Logan’s Run’.

  • The game description indicates your ‘hand will not be held’ as the story starts to unfold, so it makes it seems like I’ll have to use some detective skills. Be careful though, too much aimless wandering around can quickly drain the fun out of the game.

Real player with 3.1 hrs in game

The visuals and effective use of light and shadows and visual scale is top notch. I like the freedom you have to roam around and explore but it needs more depth in game play. With such an incredible map just some definitive game goals (achievements) outside of the role of just survival would make this a winning title. Its in early access and needs support and would be a shame for such a great map & stunning visuals not to be developed further.
