Overload Playable Teaser 3.0

Overload Playable Teaser 3.0

There have been many attempts to rekindle the magic of Descent, the venerable progenitor of the entire 6DoF genre. Some have been bug-ridden trash, others have been moderately acceptable if lacking polish, and a couple have been well-made but lacking in important features like multiplayer. But the true look, feel, and pace of the Descent originals have only ever been rivaled by the equally-venerable competitor, Forsaken. Even the recent entrants to the field, Descent: Underground and Sol Contingency, pay homage to their forebears while not quite adequately delivering the full experience.

ORIGINAL: When I first saw Overload I was a little skeptical (as other 6DOF games left me a tad disappointed, even the better ones), but when I saw who was developing it (the original creators of Descent) and after 30 min of playing the TEASER I immediately dropped down a TON of money to fund this game. It is everything I’ve been wanting from a descent game since Descent 1-3 came out, and even if it doesn’t carry the name, after playing it you will understand. This game has the heart and soul of descent. The atmosphere is created by the levels, music, and robot sounds. The bots dodge, flank, and run away from you. Controls felt perfect, and that was at the default settings. Very well done, and this is just the playable teaser. It’s free to try, and you should. I love every bit of this.

I liked this. It is quite interesting. I’d have liked to see more narration, and more use of VR as a medium.

If anyone’s interested in flying a Lancaster in VR, try Sturmovik.

Not bad for a free educational app type experience for VR. You get to see 3D model recreations and even a mini-one to hold in your hand. There’s lots of information on the 4 different war vehicles. You also get an inside view which is like 360 photographs, but lacking true stereoscopic 3D so the scales are off.

Whole thing took me about 25 minutes, but it could have taken much longer if I had tried to get all the information possible. I just went for the most interesting ones. App is running on the Unity Engine and I had no performance issues on my RTX 3080. I did not experience any bugs.

RUCKBALL

RUCKBALL

Ruckball is a very good game overall, by not just stopping to look at just pictures, it is well worth it if you spend a minimum amount of time there. In terms of mechanics, the game is very accessible, a little hard at first, but largely controllable with a little half an hour of training. You can easily mix fight/ball or just fight to put pressure on your opponents. You have enough to fight back and let off steam!

Very nice graphics, and the atmosphere is there. 3 maps with different degrees of gravity that makes you very happy.

I’d definitely recommend this game to just about anybody who enjoys games similar to Rocket League. While this game is still in early access it has a lot of potential for Esports competitive play and could really be the next big hit if it can get a bigger following. Talked with one of the devs on Facebook and they mentioned they have big plans coming soon with updates in the near future. Try it for free and tell your friends!

Virtual Becomes Reality: A Stanford VR Experience

Virtual Becomes Reality: A Stanford VR Experience

It’s a short yet affective experience that points a finger towards the possibilities that VR can offer to everyone in the world. It talks about some interesting psychological experiments which peaked my interest to research more articles relating to what was shows in this experience. I recommend it to everyone who has a VR, it’s simply 15~ minutes long and you get to learn some interesting thoughts!

I thank to everyone who put their time and effort into this project. I too hope that in the future, we’ll be able to have portable VR technology in our daily lives that are used not only for entertainment but also used for enchanting human interactions and focusing on education aswell. Who knows? Maybe the time where we’ll have Augmented Reality (AR) and/or VR contact lenses is closer than we imagine.

That was cool! I was at Stanford many years ago, and would’ve dropped by in 2020 if our road trip hadn’t been cancelled. It was a pleasure to meet you guys by using the VR equipment I invested my holiday savings in instead - making the best of the situation indeed! Cheers from overseas!

This is the least interesting of the three Oubey VR experiences. You just fly above a world real quick and it repeats. The other two had tinges of interactivity that made them much better.

Singulive

Singulive

Singulive is an Early Access Free VR experience that is a social music venue. It worked on my HTC Vive system, looked good, played ok, sounded good, was understandable. This program released 17 Augt. 2021. Has English and Spanish as language choice. Didn’t notice this program was Oculus Rift only, but works somewhat on HTC Vive, although missing some minor features. Currently, has Two music sessions, both in Spanish, with 3 songs each, then there are 3 other artists coming soon. The camera work was good and crisp. I could not read the news. You need to make an account by launching the registering program first. Has a meeting room for friends and that you can invite Steam friends. I guess you can also play the music sessions with friends. Has five maps that you can visit to experience music. During a music session, you are locked in place. The artist is like a hologram on the stage.

Had this for a few days. You have to create an account, so I keep trying to create an account. I enter my email, make up a password, but when I hit the button to create the account, nothing happens. I made a post about this in the discussion area, but have yet to get a response.

Short Free experience that is more of an Ad than a educational tool

Aside from that, its pretty “Ok”.

You start inside a submarine (play sitting down recommended), then its 3 scenes, the mouth, the small, large intestines and a quick scene at the… final part.

During each part a friendly voice tells you a bit of educational talk about what happens in each section,

There are 2 short interactive parts, one where you build ammo for good bacteria by grabbing some items and placing them on their designated spots (one item being kellogs cereal), and then the 2nd part is using that ammo to feed good bacteria using a sort of slingshot mechanic that works fine.

Flow

Flow

Experienced on the Oculus Quest 2

So this is yet another meditation app for VR. This one uses short looping stereoscopic 360 videos. Unfortunately, this means there are no interactions and you’re only using your motion controllers to select items from the menu.

This is free at the moment with several meditations to enjoy, from calm to focused to more intense. You can also buy some DLC. However, there’s mention of a registration and subscription plan in the future. I’m not sure this experience is premium enough to warrant that, of course, Flow EHF is free to do whatever they want to monetize their product. I just don’t think it would be successful.

Real player with 0.2 hrs in game

Flow is not a game. It’s a bunch of VR videos and some hippy soundtracks to aid in meditation. There’s no gameplay loops, there’s no gameplay or meaningful interaction.

It’s intended to be a paid/subscription kind of service but seems to have been abandoned prior to that. That doesn’t stop the developers trying to scam the hippies for this non-game, there’s a whopping $20 worth of predatory DLC.

To paraphrase PT Barnam, there’s a hippy born every minute, and two to take ‘em.

Anyway, this is not a game, despite being erroneously published as a game, cannot be recommended as one.
