Forsaken Remastered

Forsaken Remastered

Note: This game unfortunately does not have joystick support. Still fun as hell to play though

Forsaken was my favorite 6DOF title back in the 90s, and I was elated to see it finally was remastered, and even managed to include content from the N64 version which I grew up with, making it more complete than the past PC/PSX/N64 releases. It looks fantastic in full HD, you can finally adjust your FOV properly, and when you find opponents, the multiplayer is absolutely mental. Also, the addition of a much needed map system was also added, which makesthis game MUCH less frustrating to play, I remmeber losing my mind as a kid getting lost in some levels. Nightdive, you guys rock, love that you did this for your Turok remasters as well.

When a legend was FORSAKEN

Nightdive worked its magic to revive that which had been

FORSAKEN.

Do yourself a few favors:

-Buy the game if you’re even considering it, at least as a fan of the 6DOF genre- because while both this and Descent couldn’t be more different thematically, both games were (at least in my biased opinion) leaders of a new genre that has only recently seen some new life since the very inception of it back in the ’90s. The remaster does not stray from the original formula, instead only facelifting the long-since-abandoned PC version, which has been left to be remade by the fans (producing a version without the memorable sountrack, and stylistic HUD elements.)

Short Review:

Awesome game :)

+++

Longer (Early Release) Review:

I’ve followed this games development since playing a (VR) demo at EGX Rezzed event in April 2016.

The simple and intuitive controls and gameplay from then remain as you move around in fully 3d, zero-G levels.

The puzzles can be challenging, but still fun - it dispenses with the traditional hand-holding (although you wouldn’t need it) which makes solving them more satisfying. The EGX demo also had some of the later, bigger and more elaborate levels and puzzles, so looking forward to seeing what follows on from this early release.

I love this game, from the way its set out to the voice over :)

The game moves in a way that as gamers we are not used to and it makes you feel like something is not right, put that together with the unknown of the game and where it’s going, to the hints on the wall.

(it was an accident!) just adds to the game play.

Are we in a ship? Are we inside somone? Who knows. All I can say is I can not wait to keep playing.

Short Free experience that is more of an Ad than a educational tool

Aside from that, its pretty “Ok”.

You start inside a submarine (play sitting down recommended), then its 3 scenes, the mouth, the small, large intestines and a quick scene at the… final part.

During each part a friendly voice tells you a bit of educational talk about what happens in each section,

There are 2 short interactive parts, one where you build ammo for good bacteria by grabbing some items and placing them on their designated spots (one item being kellogs cereal), and then the 2nd part is using that ammo to feed good bacteria using a sort of slingshot mechanic that works fine.

Miner Wars 2081

Miner Wars 2081

To start: I loved playing this game. To a point. The controls seemed awkward at first, but once I got the hang of them, it turned into sheer awesome. That is, for a while. I’ve played through every single level of this game. Twice, actually. First complaint: I have never received a single achievement. There are 12 achievements. They are all based on story progression. I have none of them. I beat the game twice. There is an issue there.

Next, the… sheer incompleteness of it. There are a huge number of extra missions and things, and… Well, you see, by the end of the game you have three allies. Before a certain point, you only have one. Then, I think, you go up to three. Then back down to two, then up to three again. No matter what time during the game you venture to the optional side-missions, you WILL have all three allies. Even if you have no idea who the hell they are, or if you currently believe that ally to have DIED HEROICALLY. He’s just hanging around with you in a sidemission.

This review is long overdue for a game I consider to be worth the $4 bucks it’s on sale for now. Dear reader, you’ve probably seen the overwhelming negative reviews for this game. Take the time to read mine.

Let’s talk about positives.

  • If you like 6DOF like Descent, or some of its clones this game does the job nicely.

  • Environments are fully destructible (this can be in issue on some missions, like if there’s a terminal checkpoint you have to access but it’s been blown away)

  • Weapons for the most part are ballistic, and energy based weapons like lasers are non-existent.

Might be fun in the future. Its a nice idea. Just very poorly made. It needs a lot of work to be playable. Should not have been early released yet.

The game looks good. The sound needs work (Beef up the hit effects and volume). There is some glitching with weapons on walls and enemies randomly sinking into the floor. I have not played very long yet, but as other reviewers stated there is potential here. I would prioritize the sound and move on from there. I am going to give a borderline recommendation because I want to give you encouragement to improve on a good foundation.

This is the least interesting of the three Oubey VR experiences. You just fly above a world real quick and it repeats. The other two had tinges of interactivity that made them much better.

! II’m eating Wasabi flavored Edamame right now. Usually Wasabi flavour is just horse radish, but not here. I think I prefer the horse radish. https://youtu.be/WqKib_tL5GE

I liked this. Very short, but the price is right.

A tiny little game made as a part of a V&A gallery on the influence of Alice in Wonderland on art and design. You will finish this between 15-20 mins, but the price reflects that and it is certainly replayable thanks to Kristjana S. Williams’s unique art style and how the VR brings several charming episodes from Lewis Carroll’s fiction to life. There are three scenes, besides the initial tumble down the rabbit hole and the main menu area, involving the rabbit, the cards and the caterpillar. If I had a single complaint it would only be the omission of the tea party.

Once Upon a Sea

Once Upon a Sea

Once Upon a Sea is a poetic, interactive XR documentary telling the tragic tale of the legendary Dead Sea. Through a physical exploration of the sea’s forbidden, moonlike landscapes, to intimate encounters with local characters, the user gets a rare glimpse into one of the world’s most dangerous, soon to be extinct, wonders. Centuries of human intervention and political neglect have turned the Dead Sea into a precarious place. Its water levels have dropped dramatically, leaving behind sinkholes and collapsing beaches. The experience offers a deep insight into the complexity and very human impact of this ecological and geopolitical crisis. Once Upon a Sea is our call to action.

The Last Place

The Last Place

The Last Place is a charming asset flip where you start on a smallish map, unarmed, surrounded by copy+paste asset store monsters, and you have to go find a gun and shoot them, I guess. There’s no actual defined plot or goal, it’s best described as a survival shooter, except the enemies are just standing around until you trigger aggro on them.

Believe it or not, I’ve played even worse asset flips than this, but this is still pretty bad. I do like the comedy $45 USD price tag, though. That’s more than the developer probably spent on the asset store. What should I recommend to gamers… almost any AAA game on Steam? Or this crappy asset flip? Decisions, decisions.
