Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity®

Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity®

In my opinion this is the best version of this game.

I say this because each “new game” is just a tiny expansion of the original product. in simple terms, they have been charging 60 bucks for the the same old game over and over and over.

I don’t support rebellion for this exact reason.

the only reason you shold buy ANY of these games is if you plan on using one of the many mods available.

as this is an older version, mods for this title will be more likely to be finished and less likely to be broken by random updates.

For Starters…

Let me preface by saying that I purchased this game back in 2012 during a steam sale. I installed it along with a few other titles, played for a few hours and uninstalled it within a few days. A couple years later I decided to give it another shot and removed it within hours of installing it. In fact, actually googled online to see if there was a way to delete the game from my steam library because I swore the damn game would never fool me into installing it again. It was extremely frustrating trying to learn all of the complex technical nuances to managing and controlling your space fleet, especially when I just downloaded a bunch of other titles and this one has a learning curve, and expects you to actually play through all four of the dense tutorials to gain the minimum level of proficiency to play the game. And of course, I clicked through them without retaining anything, immediately started a skirmish, couldn’t control my empire, was confused about what was going on, got obliterated, cursed the game and uninstalled…

I am surprised this game has not gained enough attention as I will have to spread the word out about this game.

Here is what I like about this game:

It has a very interesting Hero System meaning as you gain experience points you can spend experience points to improve a number of skills along with improving your main stats of your Hero like health, defense, attack, resist and moving around on the world map. It has at least 20-30 skills you can spend your experience on .

Other 4x games when you gain a level you get some increases based on that new level but in this game you spend your experience as you see fit so there really are no levels in this game so I think it is actually a better system.

Sins of a Solar Empire®: Rebellion

Sins of a Solar Empire®: Rebellion

Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion is a space strategy game and a real-time strategy (RTS) game which incorporates 4X strategy game elements. This game was developed by Ironclad Games and published by Stardock Entertainment and is only available on PC.

While you may notice another game with Sins of a Solar Empire in its title (Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity), that is an older version of the game. Rebellion is the definitive and superior version as it not only offers numerous additions to the game, like Titans and new Factions to play as, but also contains everything from the previous versions of the game.

Sins of a Solar Empire represents a fun and visually spectacular 4x game. But the 4x is a bit tilted. There is diplomacy and you can win with diplomacy, there is exploration and you will need to explore and there is exploitation. But Sins of a Solar Empire at it’s core is a game of extermination, combat drives the game and will dominate the majority of what you do, but that is perfectly fine considering how fun it is.

This game is well supported considering it’s age though optimisation in multiplayer is poor and they do not allow you to local host your games instead requiring you to connect to their servers. The attention to detail in the base game is excellent from space elevators and space traffic around your planets to having individual weapon ports on ships with their own firing arcs. It’s hard to get bored of this game especially if you have friends to play with.

Medieval Kingdom Wars

Medieval Kingdom Wars

I like the game. In fact, I like it a lot. There are very few things I could personally complain about, in terms of gameplay mechanics, or graphics. If I wanted something different, I’d simply play something else, instead of asking for this game to be changed to the point it’s no longer the same game.

The reason for the negative review, would be that I’ve almost completely lost faith in the the developers, as well as any hope of improvement on what is currently something non-playable for me. And the reason I’ve lost faith in them, would be due to their approach on how they handle things.

Medieval Kingdom Wars is a Grand Strategy/RTS game that reminds me of a mix of a very simplified Paradox campaign map, with Total War elements, and then very Age of Empires style real time battles in a battle map. This game has a really cool concept, I’ve always wanted a game like this, and after reading the description apparently the 3 man Dev team always has as well, and they’ve made a pretty neat little game. What it lacks in complexity and depth it makes up for in pure fun, and it is fairly addictive as well. It’s not as immersive as a total war game or a paradox game, you won’t really feel Super in the 14th century, as many of the units are still fairly generic, but the devs are CONSTANTLY updating this game, and it’s always getting better with every update. Okay, lets do a quick rundown of it’s features and then some pros and cons:

Line War

Line War

Line War is a multiplayer Real-Time Strategy (RTS) game heavily influenced by other strategy genres including 4X, War Game, Auto Battler, and Real-Time Tactics.

  • Endless number of asymmetric procedural worlds

  • Players select their starting territories in an innovative and fair “picking phase”

  • You draw commands that units will follow

  • Reduced micro-management, Actions per Minute (APM) is not important

  • No control of individual units, they all follow commands and directives

  • Traditional, recognizable, and well balanced militaristic units

  • Conquer territories, build towns, cities, industries, ports, and trade routes to earn capital

  • Produce energy with refineries and powerplants for sustained mobility of tanks, air force, and navy

  • Visual commands

This game has a never-before-seen approach that lets you focus on drawing commands and executing a strategy rather than managing individual units. Chain commands and execute orchestrated operations for coordinated attacks against your opponent. This command system sets Line War apart from other strategy games.

  • Familiar Units

Line War dares to break the trend and has only one race with familiar units to widen the audience and ease the learning curve. Each unit has a distinct and carefully balanced role.

  • Strategy

Line War focuses on strategy. We’ve designed the game around the typical RTS-problems to remove the steep learning curve and need for ultra-fast micro-management so you can focus on planning and executing a strategy.

During Early Access; Line War is a multiplayer-only game! We will add single-player campaigns for the full release in 2023. As an Early Access customer, you will receive the single-player campaigns for free once the game is fully released.

Turn-based fantasy strategy. Elves, Dwarves and Humans lived in peace for hundreds years. But the quiet life spoiled them. Sins grew and led to war.

Features

  • World map consists of hexagonal cells and is divided into sectors.

  • Colonize sectors to develop your empire.

  • Sector is fundamental economic unit with resources and buildings. The maximum allowed number of buildings is limited for each sector.

  • Units with unique parameters and different attack types. Hero is unique powerful unit.

  • Units use sectors for global movement and cells in combat.

  • Turn-based combat takes place between two sectors at the world map. Terrain and buildings affect combat.

  • Each race has a dominant sin and demon-patron with unique gifts tree. Acceptance of gifts greatly strengthens the army. But with time people will rely more and more on faith and become weaker.

  • Unique technology trees for each race.

  • Growing population consumes food and is limited by number of houses.

I only played the game for 5 minutes, but I left the game running for 3 hours as I was doing christmassy stuff with my cats. So in short, I know very little of this game so far. The UI and map are excellent, I’m excited to go back and look at it more. I only took over one single city and explored over half of the map thus far, but it feels good to play.

If you consider yourself a fan of something, you deserve to something something good review.

Save your money. I like simple strategy games at times when I want to take a break from too much intense thinking, but this is overly basic. You get bored of it after playing once or twice; it looks far more interesting than it truly is. Perhaps prices at $0.99 it may be worth considering - do not spend more than that on it.
