Grand Class Melee 2

Grand Class Melee 2

This is one of the best local multiplayer games that I have ever played- period. I played the first Grand Class Melee on my friend’s Xbox 360, and had such a great time, because there is so much freedom in your character, and in countering the other characters- and that means that every game is unique in how you have to play. It means that gameplay can be incredibly meta and powerful, or cheap and gimmicky. This game is very similar to the first, but almost exclusively an improvement over the original. The lack of split screen games on the market makes this game a real treat to play, and is an excuse to get friends to be together. If there are any negatives to me, they’re the lack of online, and the strength of the homing projectiles. The online is admittedly a not crucial, but the fact that these projectiles, which usually only move in 4 directions, are able to move any which way for a nearly unlimited time, it just too strong to not pick if you play to win. But overall the game is great, and I won’t stop playing it for a long time.

I don’t want to be cruel with the developers and say that you shouldn’t even try this game. But well… you probably shouldn’t.

Even thought you can see what they tried to do, an arena fighter with different characters and abilities, in the end it is not satisfactory. It is kinda confusing to understand what is going on, since the UI is so simple that doesn’t even explain things to you. The combats are VERY unbalanced and the game is not fluid. Not to say that the AI is just unbeatable (you’ll only win by the unbalance factor).

Space Debris

Space Debris

This is a great party game for rock-blasting retro space fun. I love the drop in/drop out feature and the massive number of gamepads supported.

There’s also a bit more to it than you might expect:

Several ships to choose from, each with their own unique style

Bring dead allies back to life

Collect space dust to power up

Collect debris from destroyed alien ships to unlock new ships and upgrades

Play it now! you know you want to.

Mainly writing this because I disagree with what the majority of the negative reviews are saying, as someone who cranked out 40 hours of gameplay (split quite evenly between online and offline play) and who completed games on the hardest difficulty level. While I have ideas on what should contribute to a negative review, which will come later in the review, but let’s start by tackling the points I disagree with in the negative reviews.

I believe RNG gets the majority of the blame because a random event occurs at the beginning of every turn, and at every new planet, so it’s pretty much in your face all the time.

This game has the potential to be very fun. Myself and a few friends brought it and really enjoyed the game initially. But we quickly realised that this game is too hard, and not even hard in way that challenges you properly. We have been playing on mild difficulty, since the upper difficulty was seemingly impossilbe.

The game is hard beyond the player’s control, since much of the game mechanics are the result RNG. 90% of the RNG is bad! You receive negative effects that can see you wiped out very quickly. For example, we upgraded our shields to the max very early on, but in response, we started taking much more damage from RNG events.

Seals of the Bygone

Seals of the Bygone

Thought It could be at least as good as Caveblazers, but It isn’t.

Everything looks so small that the action animation of the hero make little sense to player.

Unlocked a couple of different roles, only to find they are too weak to survive the first wave of respawned enemies.

Why does the hero have to be pulled back to a boss when it breaks loose from seal? that’s ridiculous. The boss fight is a mess, they spawn all the time with those annoying projectiles flying across the ledges and walls, together with all the other spawns chasing you, there isn’t much you can do but run, which is frustrating and not rewarding or enjoyable.

Just finished my first run of the game, and everything about this makes me nostalgic for those first few months that Risk of Rain 1 released. I played that game sicne launch and never found another experience quite like it…until today! This game is a love letter to RoR but feels less hairpulling at times. RoR had the tendency to really really murder the player if they weren’t properly managing time or stage searching, but SotB has a more forgiving in-level system (the Seals and their Void key counterparts) that will reward experienced players while not punishing players who got into the game for reasons other than playing a challenging rouge-like. Extremely promising early access in my opinion, can’t wait to try out all the Sealers and see what the developer has in store for this game in the future!! I hope it receives some more attention, this game is dying to be played by the likes of Northernlion, BaerTaffy, ShinyRawrquaza etc. Seriously if you enjoyed either Risk of Rain this is a must buy!

THE GOOD:

Starting up was super easy. We only needed one copy of the game so I downloaded it, we all downloaded the app (onto our Galaxy S7 Edges) and connected to my wifi (on 2.4Ghz because my 5Ghz seems to sputter sometimes with everything I try to connect to it), started the game and put in a label, started the app on our phones connected and hit “Start” on the game (on the PC). We waited for only a few brief moments for each player to get their starting dialog and get connected with the other players. It was literally that easy.

pros:

  • The local co-op. A unique opportunity to play the game on one screen with 5 friends. Players are not required to sit at computer or hold a joystick. Each player can take their favorite place in the room and play with their smartphone.

  • The battle. Interesting and intense battles with multiple abilities and friendly fire.

  • Semi-turn-based combat provides time to think over your tactics and at the same time, there is virtually no waiting time for other players or enemies moves.
