The Chameleon

The Chameleon

Ok, I liked this game, might even speedrun it, but I have to give it a negative review because it’s exactly as I feared: it’s just the demo but double length.

For the price point it just ends too soon and feels like it doesn’t explore its concept enough. Also considering this was in the haunted ps1 disc this year, if you’re reading this, you’ve probably played the demo, which means you’ve experienced the best this game really has to offer already and you don’t need to buy it. You get the blink power in that demo and then it ends soon after.

Really fun stealth game!

As a massive Splinter Cell (Chaos Theory) fan, this scratched that itch.

It’s super cheap, but it is rather short (beat it in a little over 3hours), however I think with the price, and just how fun and well designed The Chameleon is, it was definitely worth the price. I think I might even feel like replaying this at some point.

Liked the story, if there ever were a DLC expansion, or just a sequel, I’d buy it.

The atmosphere, visual style, modern effects complementing the retro style, just feels great. There’s neat dynamic lighting, a cool dithering effect on high pixelation, lots of moody coloured lighting, details all around, notes to read to enhance the setting, charming humorous touches.

I enjoyed the strange scorpion fellow. The games audio is bad, the jump scares suck, and the character models are terrible. But then again, what did you expect from a two dollar horror game.

Another great game coming out of the Sokpop Collective.

Whenever I’m feeling down, I always hit up the Sokpop Collective for a cute and interesting game, and this game doens’t come as an exception. The atmosphere is comfy as heck, and I absolutely adored exploring around the open world, hopping in and out of tallgrass to hide from the guards while saving the little children.

I would love for this game to be more developed and realized into a more thorough experience, as even in this tiny world, I had the same feeling I had when playing Breath of the Wild for the first time.

The Thief Girl ~ 盗賊少女 ~

Surprisingly a very fun and enjoyable puzzle/horror game! You have to steal treasure while not being seen or caught by different monsters. I enjoyed the different tiers in the level with how much treasure you collect, how often you are seen and how often you are caught to create more suspense and strategy while playing the game. Sometimes it was a little buggy but overall a great game!!

“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn’t go away” Whiteside is a first-person survival horror game. As an investigator of the Common European Asylum System, explore an island where they keep the mentally insane that are beyond help, uncover the truth, but don’t believe everything.

Setting:

On an island that is now used as a mental/prison facility, part prison part asylum terror and horror awaits at Whiteside Asylum. An old hospital for the criminally insane who are hopelessly past rehabilitation. The island was deemed an ideal location for a prison/asylum. It is assumed no prisoner could ever escape or survive the cold ocean that surrounds it.

  • Survival horror: You will have to use all your wits to try and seek the truth but also survive in this horror slasher.

  • Enemy AI: Enemies will not be predictable there is no set path way, they can come anywhere and at any moment, you will feel very unsafe

  • Graphics: Whiteside utilizes the unreal engine 4 and has made use of nearly all the engines features, including real time volumetric lighting, high textures, pushing the boundaries of what computers can do to give of a truly AAA quality in the graphics department

  • Rich Story and multiple endings: Whiteside focuses on story as much as it does on graphics and performance and game play, in this rich story telling game the player has choices that can be made which will effect the outcome of the story, not only that but environments have different entrances and exists meaning there can be multiple ways around the environment.

  • Random Jump Scares: Whiteside has hand crafted jump-scares made to scare the player but only a few will generate during each play-through giving the player more reasons not to play again

Flicker of Hope

Flicker of Hope

I really wish I could recommend this game. There are some very interesting aspects to this game that I’ve never seen before. Unfortunately, however, the gameplay is just too poor to recommend.

First the good: So, the first thing you’ll notice is that the main character design is absolutely adorable and beautifully representative of the themes of light, hope, etc. that is visually expressed throughout Wick. Additionally, the way that Wick and the candles that he lights are the only light in the map (and how the light changes as you sneak and run) and the idea of the light being what leads Sister Mara to you is gorgeous and elegant (and can only really be expressed in the form of a video-game). Finally, the method by which Jean Wick revives is by possessing one of the candles that he’s lighted, which once again is beautifully representative of the the theme and story of spreading light around the cathedral.

Pros and cons are down below) Check out the gameplay here (the game is the 1st there):

Advantages:

1. A very cool stylee! It’s so adorable but terrifying at the same time! Reminded me A LOT of Little Nightmares. Such a great job on this one!

2. I absolutely loved how the story is unravelled through the environment! Game mechanics are also fascinating, I never ever played as a candle! I think the whole concept was amazing!

3. The game was terrifying! I loved it! It’s so cool! I didn’t expect that I will produce high pitched screams playing this at all!
