A knock-off of Battle Chess for all intents and purposes. Cheaper, though. Worth a try.

The Chameleon

Ok, I liked this game, might even speedrun it, but I have to give it a negative review because it’s exactly as I feared: it’s just the demo but double length.

For the price point it just ends too soon and feels like it doesn’t explore its concept enough. Also considering this was in the haunted ps1 disc this year, if you’re reading this, you’ve probably played the demo, which means you’ve experienced the best this game really has to offer already and you don’t need to buy it. You get the blink power in that demo and then it ends soon after.

Really fun stealth game!

As a massive Splinter Cell (Chaos Theory) fan, this scratched that itch.

It’s super cheap, but it is rather short (beat it in a little over 3hours), however I think with the price, and just how fun and well designed The Chameleon is, it was definitely worth the price. I think I might even feel like replaying this at some point.

Liked the story, if there ever were a DLC expansion, or just a sequel, I’d buy it.

The atmosphere, visual style, modern effects complementing the retro style, just feels great. There’s neat dynamic lighting, a cool dithering effect on high pixelation, lots of moody coloured lighting, details all around, notes to read to enhance the setting, charming humorous touches.

I love being able to play games like this but my problem with these older games is that it doesn’t give you a controls configuration . I literally had to go online to look it up and from my experience finding the a sit the shows the controls was not the easiest thing . I feel like I shouldn’t have to go through such extent to find controls to a game which I already paid for. Steam could at least have the courtesy of tweaking the games to work with more modern configurations because this was no walk in the park . Having to press weird button configurations like * (shift 8) to start my jet engine !!! like seriously what kind of bullsh*t is that and I could go on but if buy and played this game for the first time then you’ll know what I mean.

AllBlocksWantToBeStacked

AllBlocksWantToBeStacked

This is a simple game in which the objective is to artfully stack seven different types of blocks that fall according to gravity.

During the game, a countdown is given, and each time the count reaches zero, a block falls one by one.

You can move the blocks to the left or right, or rotate them.

However, once the blocks start falling, you will not be able to manipulate them.

The game is successful when all the blocks are piled up on the floor.

If even one block falls down from the floor, it is a failure.

An interesting take on an emulator… If the price doesn’t put you off.

I have only tried the Commodore 64 emulator so far. I like it, it gives a sense of depth to running programs with the models and sounds of the hardware there. It took a while to get used to the keyboard layout and I still haven’t found the £ mapping but otherwise it is smooth sailing. I also wouldn’t be surprised if there was a patch sometime in the not so distant future that addressed that (or I have to smash more buttons to find the pound sign :)). Joystick supported. I spent much more time with this thing than I thought I would and I gifted a copy to a friend who had one of these as a kid.

One of the reasons I love Steam is I keep finding games I didn’t know I need. I feel that developers loved the Dynamite Deka series and wanted to create a similar game but in a Double Dragon mold. The gameplay handles well with a controller and the boss fights have real character. One sword wielding foe tosses one of his blades in air to free up his hand and spit a fireball across the screen. Small touches like this indicate a love for the genre.

A fantastic throwback to 3D beat ‘em ups, a genre that is woefully undeserved given that we mainly throwbacks to 2D beat ‘ems ups that are inspired by the likes of Final Fight or Streets of Rage rather than games following the Dynamite Deka or Spikeout lineage.

Combat is pretty simple, there’s no Devil May Cry style move list, but the fundamentally solid basic attacks and a great feeling dash combine with top notch level design, clever environmental interactions, dynamic enemy types make for a really fun time.
