Blade of Arena - 劍鬥界域

Blade of Arena - 劍鬥界域

I have updated this review on May 21st 2021’s update as I felt there was something particularly important to say about the new floating islands and its multiplayer.

A game of survival in an open world with combat centered around close combat using bladed weapons (hence the title). Yes, even hammers; their blades just don’t cut but beat your nose out of your face instead.

As someone who had already been bugtesting the game for months before the Early Release, here is my review:

-I find there to be a good deal of customization within the game. It starts in the menu where you can edit your character on various options. Most that can be colored uses a color wheel, which allows you to get a very specific shade of any color.

Hunter’s Arena: Legends

Hunter’s Arena: Legends

A bit of a hot take.

I’d say I gave this game more than a fair shake. I slogged through it as courtesy to a friend who gifted it to me.

I was lured in by the idea of this being a unique fighting game. The characters look cool, the fighting styles looked saucy, and the battle royale was just extra. When i got into it though, i found every encounter frustrating, win or lose.

My main gripe are the fights themselves, victors are decided by whoever rushes down 1st and simply guesses right. But that’s not all, the way the game tells you to block isn’t the correct way to defend, dodges do nothing, inputs seem to vanish into smoke, and your 1 functional escape skill can be easily activated on accident.

Not sure what the negative reviews are about, Most people dont like to look at things in perspective. This is a new developer and this is their first game being put out, and with that being kept in mind the game is actually very good. but most importantly IT WORKS! I cant tell you how many multi billion dollar companies put out games that are poorly optimized garbage (blizzard).

This game does have its bugs obviously, but most are fairly rare. nothing that cant be patched out as long as people are reporting it. But i REALLY want to emphasize the optimization of the game. I experience zero lag, no rubber banding, no input lag, and no random disconnects. In terms of PvP combat, this game plays better in PvP than any other MMO that has mass PvP or open world PvP. This includes tera (especially tera), BDO, BnS, etc. There IS some quirkyness tho that happens when chasing and tagging a enemy down. Attacks from melee seem to hit when they shouldnt hit, but thats honestly the only weird thing ive noticed thus far and its not anything to rage about considering you can not flee from fights anyway since the opponent will eventually catch up to you through the wind current mechanic.

UC KART

UC KART

Honestly, I think this game is pretty good. Keyboard controls atm don’t work for accelerating and deccelerating the kart but controller controls work. (almost didn’t play it until I tried with the controller).

Things I liked:

-Most of the level structures remind me of the old arcade kind of racing games.

-The BGM for the levels are really nice to listen to and don’t really feel out of place.

-The racing feels really relaxing sometimes.

Things I disliked:

-The controls are very sensitive and making a sudden turn could wipe you out if you don’t control it properly.

MultiDimensional 4-in-a-row

MultiDimensional 4-in-a-row

In one sentence, this game is: “simple, yet fun”.

Game Idea: Connect Four has always been one of my go-to and favorite simple strategy games. While I did wonder how it would be to play a larger version, I never imagined playing in 3D, let alone 4D, 5D, and 6D. Let me tell you, it was a great idea.

UI/Controls: While the UI is quite basic, it works well and does not clutter the screen. The controls are done using solely the mouse, which is something I like.

Gameplay: There are dozens of different ways to play the game. Multiple players or just two. Fastpaced or slowpaced. Long games or short. My personal favorite is playing 3D with 5-in-row and 5 seconds turn timer. It’s hectic, crazy, and stressful (in a good way) and is literally so much fun.

This game just does not work. Its broken. You cannot get past the first screen. It forced you to create a name and it does not like you submit it. I left it too long to ask for a refund but I have never been able to play this game not even once.

SCP: Breakout

SCP: Breakout

In SCP: Breakout, 4 survivors spawn as lowly D-Class that have been granted their one chance to escape. They are pitted against a horrifying SCP and must team up together and overcome challenges to escape while taking on the facility at its worst. In the midst of a catastrophic containment breach, will you survive?

Predator or Prey?

Choose to play as D-Class trying to escape from their nightmare or play as one of many SCP’s with unique abilities, movement styles and upgrades.

Turn on generators, swipe keycards, access computer terminals and more to help unlock parts of the facility while watching out for others. Or hunt down every last survivor of the breach, Lure out prey or take on all survivors at once. Will you play smart or dangerous?

Upgrade Paths and customisation

Both SCP’s and humans have upgrade paths and customisation options, you can choose many trees paths and builds to aid your play style, you may want to be a fast technician who can move quickly from one place to another using your skills in technology to fix power boxes or crack computers and open doors. Or will you opt to be psychotic, getting up close and personal with SCP’s to help take the focus off of your team and allow them to get to work? Having great team chemistry is the goal to making it out alive!

The ability to customise your character with various clothing items, hats, trinkets and more can help you with realism and make the game feel more personal or to you, it also might make the game feel more crazy. The choice is up to you.

Sword Mans

Sword Mans

My hope was that this game could fill the hole in my heart left by Gang Beasts and it’s successively worsening updates, and I was not dissapointed. Sword Mans is a silly and lightearted fighting game in which you play a sword whose wielder drags like a ragdoll behind you. This leads to an unusual combat in which you are trying to swipe at your opponents whilst protecting the wielder that limply follows you. My girlfiiend and I laughed uproariously on more than a few occassions.

Four player multiplayer is where this game really shines. The controller support is also nice. A surprisingly diverse weapon selection also introduces an interesting element of strategy. The large selection of stages helps to keep multiplayer fresh as well. I liked the inclusion of both cooperative and competetive game modes, as well as the ability to include bots in versus mode to keep things hectic, The physics are hilarious and the stages are fun to smash apart and varied. You can tell that an indie dev put a lot of love into this game, and the developer has promised periodic content updates which is exciting. All things considered I enjoyed this purchase, and feel as if I got exactly what I wanted. An easy to pick up local multiplayer game that’s funny and great with friends.
