Pumpkin Jack

This one doesn’t necessarily stand at the same level as other modern competitors like A Hat in Time (play it if you haven’t), but it deserves props for its sort of overwhelming, frenetic action sequences and solid color design throughout. Some areas of the game are really nice to hang out in. The music is well done too.

If I had to rate it numerically I’d say it’s around a 6.5-7.5/10. The points I’m docking it are mostly for the missed opportunities that would’ve really pushed this one over the edge. Namely, exploring more in the way of creative platforming gameplay, and less in the way of the required mini-games to advance each section (not all of which were bad, but certainly weren’t as fun the second, or sometimes third times around)

Grimm

Grimm

Cons:

Terrible repetitive gameplay with laughably unreliable controls. You’d think a bog-standard platformer would have the basics of running, jumping and “special moves” down to a science. Nope. Wonky, uncertain and many times completely unresponsive controls paired with a camera angle that will change to a fixed or limited range, making it impossible to see (or plan) ahead. It is frustrating to play.

The developers obviously knew the jumping was crap, as too many deaths (by falling, drowning, lava, etc.,) in any area will result in Grimm magically teleporting to the next safe area. Huh… Thanks? Grimm will pee if you stand still (but not always-especially when you most need it) to indicate where he will land if you jump. This mechanic rarely works as intended. A powerup changes this to flaming pee on a few levels, but getting the stream to hit “cleaners,” (generic name for enemies who undo your level progress) is almost impossible. In fact, all the powerup mechanics seem like an added afterthought and rarely appear, despite the constant tooltip reminders about their use.

Brief Synopsis:

Grimm is an episodic game that takes you through versions of different Fairy Tales. In this game, you play as Grimm, a gross little imp-like man who wants to turn all Fairy Tales back to their gruesome originals. To do this, you simply walk through each scene, dirtying up everything around you. Your main weapon is “butt-stomping”, which dirties up larger areas than simply walking. There are also special power ups such as “Flaming Pee” and “Sausage Stomp”, just to name two.

The Lord of the Rings™: Gollum™

The Lord of the Rings™: Gollum™

Athletic and agile, sneaky and cunning. Driven by the desire to once again hold in his hands what he lost, Gollum is one of the most fascinating characters in the world of The Lord of the Rings™.

He has seen things that others can not imagine, he has survived things that others would not dare mention. Torn by his split personality, he can be vicious and villainous as Gollum, but social and cautious as Sméagol.

While being vital to the story by J.R.R. Tolkien, many parts of Gollum’s quest have not been told in detail yet. In The Lord of the Rings™: Gollum™ you get to experience this story. From his time as a slave below the Dark Tower to his stay with the Elves of Mirkwood.

Use stealth, agility and cunning to survive and overcome what lies ahead. Climb, leap and grapple your way past dangers or into advantageous spots.

While Gollum might not be a fighter, it is not unlike him to assassinate a careless enemy when the chance presents itself – or dispose of them in more creative and villainous ways.

The decisions you make and the way you play have a direct influence on Gollum’s personality: Always struggling between the two sides embodied by Gollum and Sméagol, it is up to you to decide whether the darker side of Gollum takes over or if there is a spark of reason left in what once was Sméagol. One mind, two egos - you decide!

Catlateral Damage

Catlateral Damage

I have found this game to be simple, but very addicting. You cause destruction as one of several different cats, most of which you have to unlock through gameplay.

You can play in two modes, objective mode and “litterbox” mode. Objective mode is where you are given a set of objectives to complete. You do this by knocking down or destroying the indicated items. You have a time limit in which to complete the objectives. You get bonuses for certain items, as indicated in your objectives. If you complete your objectives, you get to move on to another level, up to four levels. There are special items you can knock down to unlock bonus levels which are added in to your four basic levels.

My paw swipes a dinner plate off the table and I peek over the edge to watch it shatter to pieces on the floor below. The humans will pay for keeping me cooped up all day!

Catlateral Damage is a new game where you play as a bored cat wreaking havoc on the everyday objects inside the house. We all know kitten thinks of nothing but murder all day so this game is a realistic simulation of what it’s like to be a cat running around the house making mischief and taking care of cat business - knocking down items on shelves and tables, opening doors, hiding in boxes and tunnels, crawling above and behind everything and making a huge mess while you’re at it.
