Kill Them With Cuteness

Kill Them With Cuteness

Awesome for a first game for a single dev! Great level design definitely makes me nostalgic for platformers of the early 2000’s (Crash Bandicoot, Jak & Daxter, Spyro, etc.). The voice actors deserve an award for their contributions.

Would absolutely recommend for anyone with an hour to kill. Now all that’s left to do is wait for the GOTY edition to drop.

Bought this game thinking it might be a bit of novel fun. What I was presented with was a buggy, incompetent and unfinished mess. Asking any money for this is robbery, not even worth $4.50. Aiming mechanic is beyond broken, objective unclear, enemies look shit. BAD!

Ginger: Beyond the Crystal

Ginger: Beyond the Crystal

I spent a lot of time with this game and played it thoroughly, but I just can’t recommend it…the things I disliked about the game outweigh the things I did like about the game, which sucks because I had this on my Wishlist for a long time.

What I loved about the game was that it was how obvious the team who worked on the game loved it. After leaving the (bland) hub worlds each of the 15 levels are vibrant and distinct. I also really enjoyed the different costumes you unlock as the game progresses and the special ability that each one of them has.

Ginger: Beyond the Crystal was a fun game, I did enjoy it while i played it but there were a few things that stop me from giveing the thumbs up.

1. There is a bugged achievement, you can get it buy NOT buying every accessory before getting all the in-level ones.

2. The game has a few bugs, these bugs were in no way game breaking however.

3. There is a lot of unnecessary stuff, ALL of the quests given were one of 3, Race, kill monsters, collect items. the fall damage was 100% uneeded and felt like it was really holding me back as you dont need to fall but 10 feet to instantly DIE

Absolutely amazing game, a true masterpiece. Other games pray that one day their developers will make them as good as Funny Truck.

As others have said: It’s extremely glitchy, the controls are cumbersome a lot of times, and I ended up flying through walls more often than skating on them.

The premise of the game is really intriguing, and I would like to see this game in a more complete state, but as of right now it is virtually unplayable, unless you enjoy breaking games.

An example of glitches, besides flying through walls: You can die in the pause menu, you can manipulate your dead character in the pause menu, you can die while still paused after dying while manipulating your character in the pause menu. You can fly through floors that are solid on the top surface but not on the bottom surface.

Hello Neighbor

Hello Neighbor

Wow. What a wasted idea. This was a really good concept that just got botched nearly from top to bottom. I wanted to like this so much and was excited when it was in development, but…wow. It just utterly fails at everything it was trying to do. Instead of a stealth/horror game it is a puzzle game with poor physics, bad controls, and infuriating puzzles.

The controls are questionable at best. I couldn’t find a way to reliably map controls to certain keys like the arrows, numpad keys, etc. Maybe I missed something in the control mapping section but it just didn’t seem to work - whatever, I can deal with that. Regardless of key mappings, the actual movement and physics are just a hot mess. On more than one occasion I’d be running and I’d walk over a item like a piece of trash or a lamp and I’d just get thrown 20 feet in the air or across the map. Just utter physics failures on every level. Jumping is horrendous. If you hit the side of a wall or ledge you bounce off of it like a rubber ball. At least the same goes for the neighbor who jumps like a circus acrobat and frequently falls from heights because of the same ridiculous physics. All of this wouldn’t be much of a problem if the game wasn’t littered with jumping puzzles. Because nothing screams stealth/horror like jumping puzzles. Which brings me to…

Reviewing this game is somewhat difficult. The game has a bit of a complicated development history, with a Pre-Alpha, four Alphas, and two Betas, each completely different from each other, and I’m not even entirely sure where to start. There’s a lot to say, so I’ll try to separate things into categories.

Disclaimer: I followed this game, and its development, primarily from CaptainSauce’s YouTube playthrough. I decided to get the game myself because I wasn’t satisfied that he found all the answers. That being said, I had prior puzzle knowledge, which, from what I understand, is one of the largest complaints of the game. Keep that in mind as we move on.

Fun, spooky atmosphere. Loved running around looking for potions, brooms to ride on, and looking for the Pumpkin King . Swimming in the lake, walking around in the castle and in the graveyard was fun, too!

I love the “Playing with Gilbert” series with my daughter! Spookity Hollow is a labor of love, and we have had so much fun playing it. The stories written by the dev’s daughter were a nice touch.

I do wish this was a PWG DLC, instead of a standalone game. It uses the same start menu, though some of the content (seasons) has no effect.
