I’ve been playing this game since the very, very early versions of the Early Access release, before cameras and costumes were a thing, but I’ve taken a long, long time to write a review, mostly because I’m having a hard time to fully express my feelings about this game. There are way too many things to talk about, which means this is going to be a rather lengthy review, and it might also be all over the place due to the amount of stuff that comes to mind, but let’s dive right in.

I’ve spent most of my teenage years and all of my early adulthood wishing for the “perfect” 3D platformer, one that combined most of the things I like in a single, awesome package. I dreamed of a game with a rich, vast world to explore. It had to have a lot of secrets and tricks to discover, but it also had to have well designed platforming and action to boot, and the atmosphere had to evoke feelings of childlike wonderment and adventurous endeavors in boththe soundtrack, the visuals and the story. The characters had to be adorable and stylish, and the gameplay had to be smooth and thrilling.

PLOT

You and your sister run away from the city in order to find Adventure. On your adventure to find adventure you meet up with Mario in his mid 80’s who asks you to get his sonic ring with ribbons attached to it down from a tall stump due to him being a crotchety old man who can’t do it himself. So you jump to the top of the stump, grab his ring and when you bring it back to him he tells you that the ring is called an “Explorers Medallion” and they are foudn all over the world. So he asks you and your sister if you want to get on his magic flying whale blimp to find him and since choice matters as much as it did in TellTale’s Walking Dead Season 1 in this game, you say yes and off the three of you go to go get the Medallions and save the world or something

Very good, but why don’t you have Chinese? As the largest market in the world, if there is Chinese, more people will play it.

There are some difficulties in the game. If it can be saved, it will be better if it can be revived from the place of death rather than from the beginning

This game is amazing and as minor faults but faults being some little things that could help the game a bit more. More positive though. I’m a speedrun this game non-stop and it feels great. By far one of the best games to get into if your speedrunning. If you every played trackmania, Think of it as time attack with your friends, You aren’t running against them at the same exact time although You “could” if you want to. As a fun little platformer you can play this casually with friends or compete with other speedrunners in the discord. Everyone including mods are super nice and active. Massive amounts of friends. There’s tons to play and grind in this game right now, There also is workshop maps but its not as active as you would think. Lots of oldschool maps not many people doing it Sadly.

I used to love bunny hopping and surfing in CS:GO and found this game. Being supper excited to play I jumped in right away and started practising my parkour skills. It gave me the ability to double jump which I thought was odd. After hours of jumping through courses I witnessed another player in my lobby go flying past me at a speed I couldn’t even imagine was possible. I did a bit of research and found out there are 4 different abilities in the game.

1. Double Jump - I began playing with this one but will probably not go back to it. Not until I’ve mastered the other ones at least.

TL;DR

It’s an amazing blast from-the-past from the PS2/Gamecube/Xbox era of 3D Platformers. Very charming, with solid (but easy) platforming, great music, and with some good graphical and camera improvements.

Positives:

  • A classic brought back from the dead! This game is (considered by me and others) a classic from the PS2 era!

  • It’s a solid platformer! Nice tight controls, nothing to horribly hard, and good level design!

  • Quirky characters! From Shazza, to Maurie, to even Ty himself! They all have there own personality and, sometimes they are even funny! (Especially Maurie!) Boss Cass is a legendary villain in my eyes!

Ty The Tasmanian Tiger is essentially a 3D platformer in the style of classics like Super mario 64, Banjo Kazooie, Crash Bandicoot and Croc, just to name a few. The game clearly takes inspiration of those and even wears some of the design decisions on its sleeve. Ofcourse there is absolutely nothing wrong with that when its done well.

And well they did!

Let’s look at the pros and cons!

Pros:

–—–

  • Fun and varied gameplay

  • Great and fitting soundtrack for each individual level

  • Cute characters and simple story
