Ice Age Scrat’s Nutty Adventure

Ice Age Scrat’s Nutty Adventure

Strap in because this’ll be the longest analysis about an Ice Age video game you’ll ever see.

In 2006 Ice Age 2 had a video game where you played as Scrat on a hunt for nuts adjacent to the plot of the movie. It is a game I love because of its tight controls and sense of adventure. Eurocom were the developers and they did a phenomenal job on something that didn’t need that much attention to development. Ice Age: Scrat’s Nutty Adventure exists as a spiritual sequel to the game; created 13 years after Ice Age 2 and 3 years after anything Ice Age had come out. What executive decided that there needed to be a Scrat game made now I do not know, but I’m thankful developer Just Add Water was given that opportunity.

Reduced to its basics of course again a pretty average 3D-platformer, but actually I didn’t expect anything different from a typical franchise game. Like I said in other reviews before, I somehow take a liking to those ones, and in that regard it didn’t disappoint me. To be honest, lots of its design is indeed done well, animations are kind of good, environments are different, music is orchestral, sound effects are funny. What I especially cherished was that the cutscenes with the trademark Scrat-parts (like in the movies), you know, where he gets in one mess after another and gets hit a lot, were plentiful. Really loved those parts, so I can’t complain about that, they were indeed true to the spirit. That saying, I also didn’t mind the plentiful bugs or flaws I encountered the longer I played, probably non-avoidable for such type of lower-budget and Unity-based games, like the double jump sometimes doesn’t work when jumping too close to an edge, returning to the hub makes you invisible and messes up the graphics, jittering platforms or movements, input tutorials that don’t vanish, sporadic sounds that don’t stop, falling through the floor at times, or the repetitious fights and too few enemy types. No, what in the end really annoyed me a bit actually was the fact that to 100% the game you had to replay nearly all levels (because you later acquired new abilities which open formerly closed sections). Worst problem, even if you got those items in a replay, you always had to again play through the entire level to finish it. Really wish that there was a ‘return to main hub ‘ button in the levels. Especially when looking for those hidden statues, oh boy, they were sometimes really diabolically hidden, and playing through the levels over and over again, seriously, at these moments I started to curse the game.

MilMo

I’ve played MilMo for many years, and I’ve always loved how bright and friendly the game is. It has characteristics and interesting details that never fail to make me smile.

The game runs really smoothly, with very immersive background music in all areas. The storylines that you can complete through questing are very in-depth and you’re always wondering what’s going to happen next in terms of the lore. My personal favourite is the Mice & Maniax adventure with the Mouse Resistance fighting against the Mad Scientist. Despite the fact that I think that storyline is not complete yet, it’s still a great one to play.

I’ve been playing this game since the very, very early versions of the Early Access release, before cameras and costumes were a thing, but I’ve taken a long, long time to write a review, mostly because I’m having a hard time to fully express my feelings about this game. There are way too many things to talk about, which means this is going to be a rather lengthy review, and it might also be all over the place due to the amount of stuff that comes to mind, but let’s dive right in.

I’ve spent most of my teenage years and all of my early adulthood wishing for the “perfect” 3D platformer, one that combined most of the things I like in a single, awesome package. I dreamed of a game with a rich, vast world to explore. It had to have a lot of secrets and tricks to discover, but it also had to have well designed platforming and action to boot, and the atmosphere had to evoke feelings of childlike wonderment and adventurous endeavors in boththe soundtrack, the visuals and the story. The characters had to be adorable and stylish, and the gameplay had to be smooth and thrilling.

Poi is a good Mario clone. End of story now get out of the review section and buy the game if you want to kill a good 32 hours collecting things.

okay that’s not entirely true so read this instead

PLOT

You and your sister run away from the city in order to find Adventure. On your adventure to find adventure you meet up with Mario in his mid 80’s who asks you to get his sonic ring with ribbons attached to it down from a tall stump due to him being a crotchety old man who can’t do it himself. So you jump to the top of the stump, grab his ring and when you bring it back to him he tells you that the ring is called an “Explorers Medallion” and they are foudn all over the world. So he asks you and your sister if you want to get on his magic flying whale blimp to find him and since choice matters as much as it did in TellTale’s Walking Dead Season 1 in this game, you say yes and off the three of you go to go get the Medallions and save the world or something

The Adventures of Mr. Bobley

The Adventures of Mr. Bobley

A 10/10 masterpiece. For starters, the graphics are absolutely stunning, with Bobley himself being one of the most aesthetically pleasing characters this gamer has ever laid their eyes on. Gameplay wise, you will find yourself constantly faced with daunting moral dilemmas that will make you question your definition of right and wrong. The puzzles are delightfully balanced so as not to be too easy or too frustrating; just the right amount of challenge for everyone. And the platforming, oh my the platforming. What can I say other than that it’s absolutely splendid. It will remind you of classic platformers like Super Mario 64 and Jak and Daxter, all while still maintaining a unique feel all its own.

A Frustratingly Fun Game

[Thoughts and First Impressions]

This game can be knocked out in it’s entirety in around 30 minutes or less (depending on how long the highway takes you to do).

It’s a simple game where you hold down the jump button and you start to charge your leap. Once you let go your Snowman flings himself in the direction you’re looking. Easy enough. One button for the whole game.

I really liked how the snowman’s movements worked, and the music was great, but I wanted it to be longer! I beat it in 17 minutes.

An effective, charming 3D platform experience that is honestly one of the best on steam. I got to play this early thanks to the dev but in no way did that influence my opinion on it, it is genuinely a great experience you should check out for yourself.

This game might have bugs or horrible camera angles but or not as great as the first game only on the wii, its still a great game and the story is good aswell.

So I read the reviews which there were many negative, and I get what they’re saying. I like many others was unable to get the game to even run, but there is an easy fix. So I got the to run and been having a blast replaying the classic game. I’ve played both 1 and 2 countless times on my wii. The game definitely w as thrown into steam with a lot of glitches and problems, but I still enjoy it. My one big issue, I have reached a glitch I believe to pretty much be gamebreaking for me. Its a rather routine part where mickey and oswald move a turnstile and then a door opens, but the turnstile stops early and you cant move it more, so the door doesnt open. So my PC playthrough is basically over only 7 hours in which is sad. If by some miracle I am able to get past this glitch then hopefully I can finish it, but until then. I personally am unable to complete the game. If anyone else has had this issue im eager to know.
