Flowing Lights

Flowing Lights

Introduction

Flowing Lights is a puzzle shmup or shooter with a ton of zones you’re encouraged to speed run one at a time. I was given a free copy for betatesting and have played through the whole game. For each zone you have to figure out the best way to clear it, then use your shmup skills to get past the bullets and take out the enemies.

Gameplay

There are 10 levels with each 17 to 26 short zones. The first two levels act as tutorial. Your weapons are regular fire and a slingshot with a slow laser guide. You can also use boosts with a time interval. You start each level with 1 live and you can earn more for clearing a zone without getting hit. In some zones you can earn weapon upgrades for getting combos. You earn a C rank for just finishing a zone but if you’re fast enough you can get Bs, As and Ss.

And All Would Cry Beware!

And All Would Cry Beware!

A neat little FPS Metroidvania romp through an alien and dangerous world of polygons and stark colors. Short but with intriguing lore, And All Would Cry Beware evokes the spirit of going beyond the veil that marks games like The Dig, Axiom Verge, and Remnant: From the Ashes.

The player takes the role of an unknown survivor of a ruined future Los Angeles, who ducks into a building in the hopes of evading a “kill gang” only to find that the building belonged to scientists who found a means to travel beyond Earth via portal. Finding a pistol and the means to activate the portal, there seems to be no way to go but through. On the other side is a world we know only as “Xanadu”, and the scattered log entries left behind by a previous expedition make more then a few references to the poem by that name.

Cute for what it is, but 10 USD is a rip for around 2 hours of content, much of which I spent trying to glitch myself up walls and sequence break. This is about the quality you might expect from a good, free itch.io game or the like. Some neat ideas, but not long enough or polished enough to really be anything great. Particularly the game suffers from sections being hard to navigate due to the limited textures used. In the caves and forest areas, the floors and ceilings look almost identical, and it makes navigation a pain. Once I found better ways to navigate and just jump over all the entire map, it felt much better. Other major note is that the volume has a tendency of resetting to full when you load back in to a save file, and the controls option menu looks like it was just a base default of whatever engine this is on, really throws me out of the moment. On the positive side, the enemies and bosses were all very creative and had good, simple patterns that made fighting them feel fair and enjoyable. The music was catchy but nothing memorable.

Blessings of No-more

Blessings of No-more

So first off this game is a challenge! Expecting anything less would be stupid. While it may be challenging it still quite fun, its got a pokemon-esque combat system and some cool builds you can make with the blessings. I really enjoyed the character design and the art! If your up for a bit of a grind and a challenge its definitely worth the 99 cents. Pro tip, you decide to get the game make sure you equip your first blessing right away!

As someone who has seen this game evolve from its ‘RPG combat’ prototype form to that game that it is now, I can confirm it has since come a long way. It’s become its own game by now, with all kinds of neat features and gimmicks. It’s a nice homeage to classic JRPG combat within a more western style roguelike RPG.

You start out with next to nothing in an unkown realm, and you’ll have to fight your way to the exit. You’ll have to find blessings and fight monsters to grow in power and up your stats in order to survive the quickly growing power of the enemies. Every area is guarded by some form of boss monster which you’ll have to get through, but to get to him you’ll have to fight your way through monsters and mini bosses. For those confident in their platforming skills there’s also hidden areas where loot and powerups can be found through jumping puzzles. However, die once, inside or outside of combat, and you’ll have to start over.

I really like the idea for an indie game such as this one. Quite enjoyable, not to mention that the graphics are superb!

Really cool game. It’d be cool if there was a PvP or PvE but you could choose different enemies or something other than Covid-19 but still really cool game. :)

Extermination pays the bills. Now the world is under attack, it’s time to make a killing.

The Last Exterminator brings back the adrenaline-fueled carnage of FPS games from the 90s such as Doom, Duke 3D, Blood and Quake.

When working a job one night, an alien invasion starts tearing apart the city, and in the crossfire they manage to destroy the only thing that Parker had left; her van. CULTIC

CULTIC

The first thing you’ll do… is die.

For you, however, death is only the beginning.

Tuck your guts back in and gear up to fight your way through the ranks of a mysterious and violent cult. Their wretched minds further twisted by the will of an unseen entity, you’ll find just as much lead flying back as you send, so you’ll have to run, slide, dodge, and make use of your environment to survive in this old-school-inspired shooter.

CULTIC gives you the freedom to approach combat your way. You can run in guns blazing, running, jumping, sliding, and dodging to keep out of harms way. If you prefer a slower approach, you can lay traps, let your enemies come to you, and pick them off from the safety of cover. Maybe you prefer to weave in between your foes, leading their attacks towards each other, and turning them against one another. With a full arsenal of mid-century firearms and explosives, you’ll be well equipped to slaughter everything in your path - provided you don’t get slaughtered first.

CULTIC was styled to feel like a throwback to the shooters of yore, but with the advantages of a modern engine, such as physics, lighting, and a fully 3D game world. The gameplay, audio design, and art are all stylized to create a unique experience.

Handball Action Total

Handball Action Total

Those looking for an alternative to bigben interactive’s handball games should look this one out. It’s far from being any “ultimate handball game” but it feels better in terms of translating the whole essence of the sport to a gaming sim. Plus… powerful creation tool to add and remove teams and leagues, can’t go wrong with that! ;D

Real player with 31.8 hrs in game

Accidentally saw this as i was looking through the reviews for Handball 21 while looking for a proper handball game with club teams and a club competition structure.

And i found one.

Thanks to whoever made this. It is not that far from PES/FIFA/NBA 2k series, and a step in the right direction for handball fans. Hopefully there is an update or a sequel with better visuals and arena atmosphere, that would be the only CON i have with the game really.

Big PRO is a huge edit mode similar to PES/NBA/Football Manager where you can create your own league entirely with a little bit of work. As licencing would be an issue for a small studio like this, allowing us to edit everything like this as long as the IHF structure is kept is more than enough. As i was saying above, just allow us to import banners, waving flags, possibly arena custom logos to further customise everything.

Insomnious

Insomnious

The Story

You just brought a brand new AI assistant designed specifically to help with insomnia, now it’s time to try to sleep. . . But something isn’t quite right about tonight. Maybe getting to sleep is the least of your problems now.

SleepCo’s brand new Sleeping Assitance Machine is making headlines as it sells out globally only weeks after being released. Alongside their specially crafted medicine to help with insomnia, SleepCo seems to be ready to put the whole world to bed. After setting up your SAM beside your bed, taking your medicine and getting into your pyjamas, SAM wakes up to help guide you into sleep. But tonight something is different. You don’t feel as tired as you usually do after taking your medicine. You hear noises all around you. SAM says to ignore it, but should you? Maybe a good night’s rest will sort all of this and you won’t have to worry about it in the morning. If you make it to the morning that is.

Manifestations of your worst nightmares, creatures of pure horror trap you in your small bedroom, there is no escape, even closing your eyes you see the hands of the beast coming for you. What will you do? Will you ever get to sleep? Maybe it’s just all in your head and you should just ignore it like SAM keeps telling you to.

The Gameplay

Insomnious is a survival horror game inspired by Five Nights at Freddy’s, however with the added feature of being able to move around the room and get close and personal with the monsters to push them away.

You are trapped in your room for the night, run around the room and hold back the night terrors while trying to get enough rest to fall asleep. These night terrors could come from everywhere, the window, the closest, the painting and even your bedroom door. But just confronting your fears by getting close enough to push them back will keep you safe for the night.

Each night the monsters get more and more aggressive, on top of this the amount of time you have to sleep for increases each night. You have to manage defending yourself against the monsters of the night and getting sleep by making yourself vulnerable and resting in your bed.

The main story mode will take you through 3 nights of progressively more and more difficult scenarios as you listen to your SAM try to get you to sleep.

The challenge mode introduces a collection of 3 unique challenges to try to beat, it’s similar to story mode just without any additional lore.

Finally the custom mode allows you to set your own challenges to try to survive. In custom mode you have the ability to change each monster’s difficulty (or even disable each monster), change the amount of time you need to sleep before surviving the night and even change the amount time it takes for the nightmare to kill you.
