The Adventures on Uranus

The Adventures on Uranus

The Adventures on Uranus is an example of competent developer direction and skill. With a game like this on the market, it is unimaginable how Cyberpunk even has a chance.

I ran into one bug, which put a damper on my progression in the game. I walked from one tower, to the other tower. Upon entering the second, and final tower, I was unable to ascend the stairs of this beautiful environment.

Nonetheless, the artistic direction and world building are phenomenal. The developers really thought out a unique and interest world for me to engage in. It’s set on an alien world, never before seen or heard of — Uranus. Apparently this name is rooted in deep, real world, mythology. Way to go devs!

The Adventures on Uranus is a short, sweet experience. No objectives or timer of any kind make for a genuinely relaxing experience, allowing you to get absorbed into the vibrantly-colored world of this game. The tower interiors are especially mesmerizing, and the town square is thoughtfully laid out and peaceful. A wonderful and promising first foray into game design and programming - well done to John and Alex!

Slime Dice

Slime Dice

Roll Dice! Make Characters! Play Mini-games & Strategize Combat! Gather a team of your very own characters and defeat the monsters of Spegroon. Slime Dice is based heavily on both 2000’s era video games and board games. Combat itself also offers many decisions, both when creating your team, and while in battle. Roll dice to get special combos, or go for another strategy entirely!

Character Creation is where you’ll start the game, making your own character first. You can change the visuals, the voice, and even their default emotions! After that, you pick their stats. There are four different stats to invest into, and a large amount of abilities to select from. Mixing and matching these abilities, stats, and equipment is a big part of the game! Do this not only for this character, but up to a total of eight! Will you make a party of mages? Perhaps a pirate crew, wielding flintlocks and axes? Or, will you make a team based on characters from your favorite game/series? The choice is yours!

Stonescape

Stonescape

I couldn’t say enough to properly convey my utter disappointment in a game that I am feeling right now writing this review. I will not go on a rant and sound too whiney. Stay away, maybe put it on your watchlist and see if they add something worthwhile, currently its a creative mode game with 21 building blocks to choose from. The lag is real with this game.

F**** NO not worth it, so many other games cheaper that are worth mine and your time. No game options at all, you get new game, continue and quit. When you are collecting stone with pickaxe the only item you have with no inventory your fps drops down to 6 fps for a short moment. So you collect stone and build that’s the whole game.

Altered

Altered

Altered doesn’t appear to be on many wishlists so I thought I’d give peeps the heads up: it’s a really good game! There. Now you know. Wishlist it and get it in the next sale.

At its core I suppose Altered is sokoban-ish, but that description is inadequate as the game features some clever and thoughtful mechanics that elevate it way above yer run-of-the-mill block pusher. It’s genuinely hard to explain these mechanics but thankfully at the time of writing this review there’s a demo. I urge you to give it a try (assuming you enjoy well-designed puzzle games).

Just unlocked the electric figure and this is an amazing puzzle game; it has solid mechanics that has depth and subtlety, and a beautiful Zen aesthetic to boot. The graphics looks just as polished and elegant as the tough but logical puzzles hidden underneath it. I especially appreciate the transitional music note and the dreamy flash of light when the level is finished; I can find nothing that is so therapeutic, rewarding and Zen. It is a nice touch. Overall, it is a 10/10 and a “would recommend”. Do expect this game to be rather difficult, as it is meant to be. There will be plenty of hair scratching and it can get frustrating fast; one principle that I find very helpful, however, is to not repeat stuff that does not work. If a strategy or a theory does not seem to work, it is best to try to understand why it fails (whenever you find a move is impossible, for example), and continue from there. :)

Zombaliens

Zombaliens

It’s actually a really fun mashup of immersive sim and retro shooter ideas. While it’s not the same as Cruelty Squad, it definitely has some similar DNA and if you enjoyed that game you’ll feel pretty at home with this similar brand of off the wall indie jank. I went in expecting something goofy and extremely unpolished but was surprised that it plays pretty well and actually has some exciting firefights so far. I particularly enjoyed one part where you’re exchanging shots with enemies between two opposite sides of a skyscraper as windows and props shatter around you. Only meaningful complaints I have so far are that hitscanners can be a bit over aggressive and it’s almost impossible to avoid damage from certain enemies.

I’m not finished playing the game. Despite that, I wanted to chip in with a review.

Despite the rough cartoonish appearances, Zombaliens is surprisingly fun. The game tasks you in most levels with finding humans who are stuck in zombie cocoons and freeing them (with the occasional boss fight to break it up). Navigating the levels can be a treat due to the immersive sim interactivity elements as well as the plethora of routes provided. You can sneak throughout levels, shooting lights, and moving yourself to an ideal spot to catch enemies by surprise or avoid them entirely. Some routes are only available if you have certain weapons which provides some fun returning to levels. Additionally, it’s fun to just try and navigate as quickly as you can throughout a level and try to improve on previous times.
