How to say Goodbye

How to say Goodbye

Once upon a time on the other side

How to say Goodbye tells the story of a character recently turned into a ghost, lost in an unknown world populated by spirits.

In this narrative puzzle game, move the element of decor and the characters to guide the characters out of the liminal space between life and death in which they are trapped.

Help them find their friends who are prisoners of a mysterious wizard and accompany them on their journey to the other side.

Ghosts on a grid

The goal of each level in How to Say Goodbye is to guide your group of ghosts to the exit, symbolized by a door. To do so, move the scenery on a grid and make your way to the door.

But dark forces seem to be holding you back against your will. Lost spirits called spleens will try to prevent you from escaping the liminal space by blocking the way to the door.

Find your friends, avoid the spleens and find your way out of the liminal space!

Someday my ghost will come

Inspired by illustration and children’s literature (Tomi Ungerer, Tove Jansson, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Maurice Sendak…), How to say Goodbye deals with the theme of grief with kindness and sensitivity.

Still shocked by their recent passing, the ghosts of How to say Goodbye try their best to leave the liminal space they are trapped in. Together, they will have to discover how to mourn in order to accept their own death, and “move on”.

Personally I don’t know the “Phoenix Wright” game(s) that many reviewers are referring to.

I just think that this game was fun. It has amusing animations, some good dialogue and funny moments.

This game’s basically a visual novel-type with a few “puzzles” that involve presenting evidence to contradict vitness statements.

Playing time’s around 5 hours.

It’s a free game, try it!

Thanks devs!

It’s criminal that this game is free. It’s basically an indie take on Phoenix Wright, done really well. It took me 5 hours to play (and I was streaming and reading the dialogue aloud, so a normal play would probably be shorter), but it was a memorable experience. Great writing, interesting characters, notable plot twists, and great animation and sound.

It’s clearly the setup for a full-length series, so I am eager to see that manifest. I’ll happily toss a few dollars to the devs via their optional cosmetic DLC too; they earned it with this.

It was a fun little game… my only complaint is not about the game but that I earned all the achievements and then discovered what “Profile Features Limited” means. I’ve never noticed this note on any other games but now I know this game doesn’t appear in my “Perfect Games”… why Steam???

Otherwise, good luck figuring out the trash can… you can do it… and the Elixir mission… lol. They were tough but doable. Nice touch by the game dev to make those a challenge.

This game is a really simple adventure indie game. I really enjoyed playing this game, I like the genre and games with strange atmosphere and funny and weird quest. Sure the story might be mind shocking to genre savvy people but I liked the twist anyways. Plus I am a big fan of how the quest tied in with the story/message of the game. The game does have issues with it inventory and picking up items. It was really annoying trying to get an item off the floor and no way to toggle to it. Also the way way you shoot your gun. Sometimes I am clicking directly at the enemy but it doesn’t connect and takes a few tries before they die. Also there is some game mechanic that felt useless like the heart v body stats? I am not sure if the affects the ending. There is some spelling and grammar errors but this guy is doing everything himself and it is way better than other translations it brings charm anyways.

I think I’ve racked up enough hours to give this a real review now.

Ghostist; is a pretty casual, but definitely charming; 2d ghost hunting game.

You play alone as you work to identify ghosts across different job sites.

And, as you complete jobs & earn money; you can buy extra items to assist in your investigations.

There’s a good variety in ghosts, & jobsites. And, investigations usually don’t take too long to complete.

So, it’s definitely a game I like to jump into for some quick, play sessions.

Thanks for so many hours between guessing and goosebumps.

A game for in between, but unfortunately the in between often gets longer than expected… :-D

It is nice to experience how the game and it’s content are growing! Maybe there will be a mobile version for more “in between” on the road?

This is gonna be my first time reviewing a game/visual novel so bare with me here

There will probably be some MINOR spoilers

Honestly the story was unsettling and great at first but as it went on I honestly started to lose interest, it got boring and tiresome to read, maybe I’m just not a visual novel person but my main gripe was with the main protagonist.

Suzumu is an incredibly boring character who is lacking in flaws which made the whole story a chore to read, all these girls fawning over the most boring and generic character ever. Honestly, it made it hard to relate to the characters because they were all so in love with the most boring generic “anime boy hero i will save them with my plot armor!!!”. Literally so much plot armor throughout the story for him but then the ending is unsatisfying bc his plot armor fails near the end, won’t go into detail, the one time his plot armor shouldn’t have failed it did leading to this ending. The curses were disturbing and stuff at first but somehow they got less and less interesting the more they explained how they were not really a part of reality at all. Toe was really interesting and actually unsettling at first but gradually like when it explained the reasoning for her behaviors it kinda got more uninteresting to me for some reason. The DLC however, was the best part of the game, it was actually unsettling and disturbing and is what I paid to see, completely unnerving and great, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE SUSUHARA IS NOT PRESENT FOR THE MAJORITY OF IT, unfortunately he appears later in it tho. And also the entire thing with the dolls was really not expanded on a lot, there are a lot of doll imagery but its just revealed it really wasn’t much of a mystery vs the soot which was kinda lame. Also going to add that naturally since the protagonist was boring, so are all the romances.

Summarized version below!

It’s Spooktober, and as someone that thrives on horror games, movies, and other media, it’s one of the best times of the year. So here we have a horror visual novel written by the same guy that did Higurashi. Yeah, that’s pretty much my calling.

Story:

So right off the bat, if you’re familiar with the author’s other works, you’ll already know that any story from him is going to be quite the ride and that is no exception here with Iwaihime. It’s dark, it’s depressing, and it’s even outright nasty at times, but that’s par for the course given the writer’s track record. In fact, it doesn’t take long before the game goes into full-blown descriptions of humans dying in the most brutal way possible, with organs flying everywhere and this overall sense of dread that never quite leaves the writing, even towards the end of the game.

I’ve gushed about this dev’s uniquely unsettling visual style and atmospheric storytelling before in my Crimson Ranch review, but WOW. Gurobu takes all of that, cranks it up to 100, and slips in a few hidden layers to boot.

I pretty much love everything about this title. The creepy visuals, the disturbing sound effects, the engaging story, the mystery, and most of all; I love that they address the importance of mental health.

Game runs fine, good framerate, didn’t notice any bugs. Highly, highly recommending, especially for indie horror fans.
