nothing especially bad about this game, but it almost seems to pride itself on being lackluster. It’s competently made and fairly polished, but I can’t help but feel like there was a great game just beneath the surface that didn’t come to fruition.

it’s not particularly fun, but it wasn’t annoying enough for me to stop playing. music is good, sprites are charming but poorly colored. level design is pretty standard fare, systems (upgrades, weapons) are intriguing but don’t make up for the repetitive and uninteresting enemy behaviors.

Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX

Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX

In 1991, my father came home with a box. Then I (6) have no idea what a game console is. I have some Tomy Handheld toys and I play with them all day. Caveman speeder space vs.

We installed it with my father and connected it to the TV. My father did not buy a game, of course, there is one game in the console. Yes, as you guessed, that game is Alex Kidd’s miracle world.

My mind was blown at the beginning of the game. I said what is this game?

It didn’t take long for me to get used to it, and I made my way through my mother’s cries of “it’s enough, sleep now”. I came to the first boss, of course, at that time I did not know that his name was boss. I call it punch man paper head or something.

I haven’t read the other reviews for this game, I received it as a gift from one of my brothers so I just jumped straight into it. The Master System is my favourite console, I still buy games for it to this day, so I am very familiar with the original. While fundamentally flawed, it is still one of the best retro platformers of it’s era.

Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX is a remastered version of the game, complete with new a handful of new levels, brand new graphics and a number of changes to bring it into the modern age. The new levels are a welcome addition, very fitting into the rest of the game and adds a nice breath of fresh air to those already completely familiar with the original. I’m not personally sold on the new graphics, I think they look nice, but I will take the legacy/original look any day.

Mira’s Brush

Mira’s Brush

Cute, colorful, and full of lighthearted humor. I had a little trouble getting a feel for the color-swapping mechanics, but other than that, I’ve enjoyed what I’ve played so far. Looking forward to seeing how the game develops as it gets close to full release.

Mira’s Brush is a colorful take on the side-scrolling pixel-art platforming genre, a genre that defined early video games and has persisted through the years. The basic idea is that all the color has been stolen from Chromaland which is now greyscale and it is up to Mira and her brush to restore color. You can steal colors and paint and do a host of different shapes and colors to defeat or blend enemies. Sadly it is marred by clunky gameplay and tutorial and clunky menus.

The platforming aspect of the game is pretty icy and takes some frustrating moments getting used to. I found it difficult to jump high enough sometimes and it really takes more technique to get on to stuff but it is manageable, but it should be like 10% higher. The tutorial floating text is terribly placed and floats off screen and is difficult to see. Sometimes matching enemies to the background does not work.

Mussoumano: Ataque dos Haters

Mussoumano: Ataque dos Haters

Very good, but why don’t you have Chinese? As the largest market in the world, if there is Chinese, more people will play it.

There are some difficulties in the game. If it can be saved, it will be better if it can be revived from the place of death rather than from the beginning

Darkanoid

Darkanoid

Oh yeah! the best version of the great arkanoid. The one-man added to the collection. Classic with modern graphics, I think that there will be no better versions, except maybe some kind of 3D mod) but still I think the limit has been reached and there is no better option than this one)

I love Arkanoid since Dandy and have played a great many, but Darkanoid was able to surprise and delight. The familiar gameplay here is diluted with just a ton of different mechanics and chips that make each new level something interesting and exciting, and most importantly, not like the past.

Oh yes, there are also barefoot shoes, and believe me, they will organize a strong burning for you in the lower back, but it’s worth it.

Overall, this is by far one of the best (if not the best) Arkanoid I’ve played. Nice picture, sound, many levels and mechanics. I definitely recommend it.

ShapeShifter

ShapeShifter

It feels nostalgic to jump, swim, fight, dodge and collect coins and power ups - a true old-school platforming sensation. With that in mind, the visuals, sounds and physics-based platform movement are modern and slick.

Female protagonist in a world where the living beings are shapes, in a rescue mission for her kidnapped boyfriend.

Ling comes to the rescue of her kidnapped boyfriend all the way from their home in the pleasure island, through the jungles, volcano, haunted island, winter island and eventually - the daungan - where her boyfriend is kept locked.

Physics based platform movement that feels GREAT!

Featuring chayote-time jumps, split second jump memory, acceleration & deceleration, physics and momentum.

Each one of the 5 islands has an amazing artwork to unlock, 6 in total along with a game ending artwork.

that makes sense and closes the storyline beautifully.

In My Shadow

In My Shadow

Don’t buy the game because you want to support and Indian game developer. Buy the game because it’s good.

Definitely fun. The hook of the game is with the shadows, and they are done very well. There are some inconsistencies with the lighting on the lips and cheeks in cutscenes. There are also some inconsistencies with the shadows in some levels, but it’s not gamebreaking. I am sure the developers will fix that. Beautiful calming music.

I like the paper-like style of the Settings menu, and the nice little detail of the settings being written on the small notepad during the game’s intro. It would actually be better UX to pull up the same notepad, when we open the Settings menu. Turns out that we can select the notepad to open the settings as well. It is not obvious at first glance. Only after moving using the controller down key, I realized that we can select the CellPhone, Laptop, Notepad. Having the word “Options” and also the notepad makes one of the two redundant. It might just be better to have either all text based or object based menu items.

Real player with 13.5 hrs in game

I found In My Shadow an enjoyable game which stretched my old brain and reflexes. Be warned that this is a precision platform game with little room for error. Some difficult parts took me over 20 times to get right as you can see by my time!

The story is a young woman reminiscing about her childhood and reconciling with her past. There are cut scenes which dramatise the story in between levels. It is interesting that we do tend to remember the bad things from the past rather than all the good things and that is pertinent to this story. However, I did find that I didn’t empathise with the girl at all. The story was rather lacklustre and disappointing.

You Are Not a Banana: Better Edition

You Are Not a Banana: Better Edition

Introduction

You Are Not A Banana is a pixel styled adventure/puzzle game set it everyday life. The big reason I liked this game is because of the humor and the really cool soundtrack. The basis of You Are Not A Banana is you follow a man as he goes through a day. Weird and odd things happen, and plenty of little puzzles are present throughout the game. You Are Not A Banana is very short, but the price tag of $2 is reasonable for the time. There is controller support, but the game doesn’t have different icons for the buttons in game. This game is very quirky and is not for everyone, but it is definitely worth a look at.
