Panzer Paladin

Panzer Paladin

So yah, it’s pretty good. highly recommend.

The story is easy to follow with its very few cut scenes, of which is reminiscent of 90’s anime like Voltron. The pixel art is fantastic and the soundtrack rocks hard, each song is region appropriate. As well as the demon’s chosen for the boss battles. and the game design is clever.

The swordplay is fact intuitive, throughout the levels you will be picking up a multitude of weapons with different stats and durability. If your break a weapon on a enemy nothing will happen. But if you break the weapon yourself it will cast a spell that will very anything from increasing your attack to a blessing spell.

This game is a new take on a genre that people in the 90’s grew up with.

I didn’t think I was going to like this game, which is odd considering I actually love this genre.

As of the time of me writing this, I’m only writing based on what I have experienced so far and my thoughts on it. I am nowhere near done with the game so I cannot touch on the Story aspect for this review.

While quite reminiscent of a Metroidvania (as we get tons of those on Steam and other platforms), the game hits close to home for me as it feels more like a Mega Man game than it does anything else. I’m a huge, HUGE Mega Man (X) fan, so this little project made me extremely happy.

June 4th, 2020: this is an update of my initial review from May, 26th, 2020.

After having played the game in 3 distinct sessions for a total of 14 hours-ish, I unfortunately feel like I can’t recommend this game ON STEAM.

The game itself (for 95% of it) is GREAT.

Unfortunately, the game is really broken on Steam and the developer doesn’t seem to be able to fix it to run a stable version that everybody can run and play….

Either the game doesn’t start altogether or it starts painfully but then crashes hours into it and is a hassle to restart.

Havoc Runner

Havoc Runner

“Havoc Runner” is an action 2d platformer game set in a space future, in which the cold war between planets is over, and the solar system is at peace again. However, this brought an enormous task of disarming several planets and satellites.

During the work on Titan’s moon (on Saturn), the central computer (the “Tupan”) of the “Anhanguera” base understood that the war is not over yet and began the sequence of launching ballistic missiles to various planets.

Now it is up to you to use a mechanical vehicle (the “Lampião”) and disable all defenses on that base and stop the attack, even if it means having to make way with the use of unnecessary force.

You shouldn’t expect this to be an easy task, because the place is full of automated weapons (killer robots, missile launchers, traps …), so get ready for a turbulent descent on Titan’s surface.

Check out my Steam Curator page, “Minorthreatt Gaming Reviews.” I have the most organized and extensive genre lists on Steam! Be sure to “FOLLOW” for more of my recommendations:

The Short of it: JAGD LANZER feels like a blast from the past, arcade shooter that would have made my day on the NES in 1990. It’s a bit “rough” in visuals/graphics + translations, but I had good fun with it. Pew pew.

Reminds me of: If you liked NES Mecha shooters, there’s a good chance you’ll like JAGD LANZER.

Unique Gameplay Elements:

The core design of this game features a unique twist on world progression and game difficulty. The player can choose to take on any area of the game at any time in any order. Defeating bosses will grant the player a new weapon and increase the player’s maximum weapon energy. However, the player is not the only one to get more powerful with each boss defeated. All enemies will increase in power level, this effects their health and damage but also their behavior. Enemies become smarter as the game progresses!

Not only do enemies become more difficult but the stage hazards do as well. Hazards will deal more damage, have altered behavior and generally are faster and tougher to deal with. So tackling different areas of the game at different points of progression can yield a very different experience for the player. On top of all that, bosses also power up similarly to enemies. So the order in which you fight the bosses will matter a lot in terms of difficulty. With this system, the game won’t get easier as you progress like a lot of similarly non-linear action games do.

These features also allow for great replayability!
