A serious subject displayed with minimalist elegance and rhetorical gameplay. Video games are also great at that: to convey important, personal and yet universal experiences.

Don’t let my game time fool you, the game is finished in 16 minutes.

I am not fond of platformers in “normal” times. But Otterways made an amazing game that conveys a message all of humanity (men and women) should all learn.

If you can save buying a coffee on your week, you can buy the game, and possibly a few keys to share with whoever you want!

Forgotton Anne

Forgotton Anne

| Byte sized review | Lost and found |

| Graphics | 3/5 - I am generally not a huge fan of anime, especially when it’s hypersexualized as most often than not seems to be the case to the uneducated (in the art form) like myself. As a kid growing up I always thought of it as too raw and too ugly for my tastes much preferring the style of western cartoons, but over the years I have gradually come to enjoy some of Studio Ghibli’s output (that is about as far as my anime adventurousness extends as I have never had any desire to seek out other studios output). Forgotton Anne visually reminds me of Studio Ghibli’s output and that is the highest praise I could possibly reap upon it. While I would have much preferred a more traditional western cartoon animation style, and that is just my personal taste, it works here and continues to help me broaden my horizons which is only a good thing. |

So that’s where my socks go. Well, I hope they had a nice life.

We all lost something. Whether it be that jacket that you forgot to take with you or an important paper that you misplaced. Or perhaps you forgot you had something as years pass. If you’re lucky, you would be able to find it again, if not, it’s a mystery where it ended up. However, what if a whole other universe houses these items and gives them life?

Anne lives in such a world, along with another human named Bonku. Anne is the Enforcer, which requires her to keep the order and make sure those not following the rules gets repercussions. But why should Forgotlings (lost and forgotten things) listen? Well, Anne and Bonku both wield the Arca which can give or take away Anima, their power source and their life energy. If a Forgotling’s Anima is taken, or distilled, they will just be a regular old item again. However, rebels have risen up despite the threat of being distilled and has threatened the near completion of the Ether Bridge as well as everyone to go back to their owner. Things have gotten too far out of hand, it’s time for the Enforcer to step in.

Nice looking game. Kinda difficult. Kinda buggy. Game would not let us continue to the next level when we did co-op. Prolly not worth the time.

SJ-19 Learns To Love!

SJ-19 Learns To Love!

A very to-the-point Metroidvania.

SJ-19 Learns To Love! doesn’t play around with hidden rooms, power-ups drop directly from bosses and the map features clear cut landmarks.

You’ll know exactly where to return to once you’ve drained the water system for example.

You play as SJ-19, a droid fortunate enough to be selected from storage and immediately instructed to follow in a long line of killing machines. This plays nicely against the simple cute aesthetic presented by the game visuals, as bosses will ask you to reconsider fighting them, whilst the shops (which are characters) gleefully encourage you to get back to killing and pump up your Soul Power to increase your firepower. Every boss comes with an ability to be gained and a lesson to be learned (guess what the final one is?) as SJ-19 malfunctions and journeys through the recess of it’s…programming?

After trying two metroidvanias that turned out to be terrible (Frauki’s adventure and catmaze) I had low expectations for SJ-19. However, this turned out to be actually good. It’s got a good story, and good gameplay at the expense of content, graphics, and sound effects. The only downside is that the game is a bit overpriced and it has to be bought on sale.

Do not buy this game. There are better flash player games out there. Simplistic platformer that has very little in terms of everything. The game looked totally different when first uploaded to steam by the way.

Brain Meltdown - Into Despair

Brain Meltdown - Into Despair

If you’re a fan of platformers, (and preferably good at them lol), and this has piqued your interest, buy it. You’ll definitely enjoy it.

It’s a fun little game. At the time of me writing this, there aren’t too many levels yet, but it’s a very fun premise that I’m surprised hasn’t really been explored much.

Level design is pretty solid. Makes use of a lot of different types of mechanics that play to the double-player premise.

The game also has a very nice art style. It’s a nice plus to have two really colorful, cute characters to look at while you stew over how to beat the next section. lol

8/10

Beautiful game. Difficult as hell, and Rage Inducing like God’s power to smite sinners. This game also has one of the most beautiful Soundtrack of its time, with beautiful artwork to back it up. Cute, Intense, fun, Painful.

The only downside which happens way too much is that every now and then when starting a new profile, after around 20 deaths or so the game decides to blackout. The menu can still be accessed through sound navigation but after restarting the game, the same issue occurs. The only hope is to delete the save file and start fresh.
