Lucky me gets to write the first review for CUBE-e 2, which is a 2D retro pixel puzzle platformer/shooter from known asset flippers, Piece of Voxel. This is a basic retro pixel shooter/platformer game where you guide a robot over various platforms on some planet, dodging spinning blades and shooting robots that float from the sky before they can shoot you. Ho hum.

They chose to use obsolete retro pixel “art” as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It’s unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. Resolution and controls are locked. These flaws push this game far below minimum acceptable standards for PC. There’s also an insulting $10 USD price tag for this garbage. Yeah, $10, the same money that would get you one of hundreds of AAA games on sale. Or this trash.

OVERVIEW: an interesting 8bit shooting game, which has its ups and downs, great to play in those 5 minutes breaks in the middle of the day (I say that but I stayed 3 hours in a row after work)

REVIEW:

Let me start by saying two things: 1) my congratulations to the 3 involved in the game … 2) the game is not made for people who only look at the graphics.

It resembles old arcade games, and for me this is a really cool thing, it brought me old memories of playing in old arcades or old video games with friends. The game is simple and easy to play, the weapons and enemies are not innovative, but considering that it was done by three people … it was a good job, in my opinion.

Really fun platform shooter! I think it is really fun to play it, even more with the amazing retro soundtrack, that make me feels back into Castlevania times, I had a really good time playing this game. It is astounding to see that a indie company made this game, it is incredible, really recommend it

Hero Team

Hero Team

Hero Team is a PVP 2D shooter with online and couch multiplayer, and modes inspired by the greatest classic shooters. It’s the spiritual sequel to the 2011 game Stick ‘Em Up 2, but with online play, super-tight controls, the speed cranked up to 11, and an abundance of maps, weapons, and upgrades.

Later this year Hero Team will be launching in Early Access.

What will be in the Early Access version?

  • online multiplayer with dedicated servers

  • local couch multiplayer for 2-4 players (with the option to play online together)

  • actual artwork by real-life artists instead of the basic-ass prototype art you see above

  • multiplayer modes inspired by the greatest multiplayer shooters, including:

    • bomb defusal

    • area control

    • team deathmatch

    • battle royale

  • a robust upgrade system with weapons and abilities that can be assembled in a multitude of combinations with meaningful game-changing effects

  • absolutely no pay-to-win ever: all upgrades are earned exclusively in-game

  • numerous characters which are customizable with free and premium paid cosmetic options

  • practice maps that are speedrunnable solo or co-op

  • all the quality of life features you’d expect like party support, private lobbies, and Discord integration (sorry that stuff isn’t ready for the Steam Game Festival build)

What’s coming after Early Access?

Regular drops of new maps, modes, characters, and upgrades to keep things minty fresh.

What’s the setting/lore?

It’s the mid-2040s, and these days the main threat in the world is IN Equity Inc. They started as a venture capital firm investing in exotic technology like human genome editing and hyperintelligence augmentation. When they got bored of the umpteenth ethics investigation against them, they went full supervillain and declared their offshore research base to be a sovereign “corporate state” under the ~benevolent~ leadership of the Board of Directors. Hero Team was formed as an elite international force to keep them in check, and are first on the scene whenever IN Equity are attempting to steal a nuclear reactor or executing a hostile takeover of a small nation.

Super Head Ball

Super Head Ball

Super Head Ball is an action-packed multiplayer game that pits two teams of warriors against each other as they fight to throw a decapitated head into a blazing pyre. With simple controls and 4-player local multiplayer, matches are fast, frantic, and intense. Join your friends and get ready to jump, double-jump… and die a lot as the bullets and heads fly. Turning the head into a weapon, bouncing it off walls, and using the arena to your advantage are the keys to success.

Pick Up & Play

Jump and Shoot are the only two buttons you need to get the hang of to enjoy Super Head Ball and start flinging heads into fires and at friends. The control scheme is simple to learn, but you’ll be mastering your double jumps, head bounces, gravity shots, and alley-oops for a long time to come.

Teamwork

Play as a team in 2v2 matches and work together to beat your friends! Pass, bounce, and alley-oop the head to your teammate as you aim to score before your opponents. Oh and try to avoid friendly fire if you can.

Unique Battle Arenas

Do battle in 20+ arenas spread across 3 environments that each provide their own crazy features. Between bouncing on head-eating frogs in the Temple or running on the ceiling in the Space Station there is a lot of room for fun experimentation!

Trick Shots

Style on your friends by finding the most creative ways to throw the head into the fire! You might not get any extra points, but it’s a great way to show off your mastery of the mechanics.

CrazyDoc is a “template flip”, that is to say, it’s a “game” that has been produced by copying a game template from GameMaker Studio, changing a few things, then dumping the barely functional “product” on Steam as a cheap, nasty cash grab. In this case it was a GameMaker Studio template for doing a simple retro platformer game.

GameMaker Studio is a very poor quality game construction kit, and results in terrible games like this one.

No professional effort was made in terms of game development, using a game construction kit requires no game development talent, and unsurprisingly produces products that have little to no value as games, especially when compared to the work of professional developers who create genuine products for gamers. It’s almost as bad as an outright asset flip.

An excellent shooter where we play as mafia cats.

There are a lot of different opponents in the game, namely: jackals, mice, wolves and many others.

And the best part is that the game is not very demanding with the characteristics of a computer.
