UnMetal

UnMetal

Worshipping its inspirations, yet being a unique game

What to expect?

If you are at the age of about 30+, »UnMetal« might have gotten your attention due to its graphical similarities with the top-down »Metal Gear« games (MSX2, NES, GameBoy), and »UnMetal« plays very much like those: While escaping from your prison cell, which you were thrown into for »a crime you didn’t commit«, you explore your surroundings and stumble upon files about an imminent terrorist action you then try to prevent. Sneak around your opponents, distract them, knock them out with your bare hands or even shoot them (but with a catch), use mine detectors and nightvision goggles, disable surveillance devices and so on. In contrast to the aforementioned »Metal Gear« games, »UnMetal« follows a rather humorous approach while referencing iconic scenes from its inspirations. To get a first impression, I recommend playing the free demo.

I first heard about this game a couple months ago and was interested when I saw the retro NES Metal Gear style game play. I played the demo and loved the humor in it. I was excited to give it a go when the game came out and it did not disappoint. The gameplay is great. My only complaint about it is that at times, it’s hard to get right up behind somebody to punch them if you’re approaching them vertically without alerting them. It’s probably more to do with the 2D design than anything else but I had to knock a slight point off for that. Fortunately, after the first few chapters, you get chloroform which you can hold from a greatest distance so you won’t run into that issue again.

Farty Bird

This is arguably the best game of 2021, I’ve only played at least 10 minutes or so but that doesn’t disregard the fact that this game is made with complete effort making it such an amazing game, the 10 minutes I have played was the best 10 minutes I have had on any steam game, no game can compete to this beast of a $2 game, thank you Bro Code for making such an enjoyable and amazing game.

NEW GAME

Outer Frontierhttps://store.steampowered.com/app/1393850/Outer_Frontier/

==========================================

In A Snapshot

  • Blast never ending waves of enemies

  • Collect gold coins

  • Unlock new ships

  • Get your best hi-score

  • Have the most amount of fun you can have with your clothes on

A Blast From The Past

Kalzor is a classic space blaster, drawing inspiration from the arcade hits of the 70’s and 80’s. I’ve done my best to bring together modern tech and classic gaming, to make Kalzor a balanced game, in regards to marrying the old and the new.

When you play Kalzor for the first time it will quickly feel like you are playing an arcade game from the eighties, the main difference is this time you’re not a virgin.

The retro themed music perfectly ties together the simplistic addictive gameplay and retro inspired visuals for the ultimate experience of ‘golden age’ gaming. With a chiptune vibe, sounding like it was composed on a speak and spell (oh the memories).

Game Play

Kalzor is a straight up fun game, no reading, no cut scenes - just 100% pixelated spaceship blasting goodness. You’ll avoid enemy attacks as you shoot your way to the highest score you’ve ever achieved. All the while collecting power ups and coins.

The coins themselves are used to unlock additional ships to control (there are five in total), meaning you have a variety of play styles to try. Each ship’s stats vary between speed, accuracy and defence (number of shields you start with). So you’ll find one that suits your mood.

Additionally there are alternative types of shots to use, which will alter how you proceed in combat. They also offer slightly more ammo than the regular ammo pickups, so if you see one float by don’t forget to grab it.

High score Champion

As a bid to promote Kalzor, players may post their scores and game play footage to YouTube, so long as our license is adhered to.

Rolf

Rolf

Rolf is an indie game that has fun cuphead/Mario vibes. It is full of fun fast paced levels that are challenging to beat. But even though the levels are challenging, you will quickly learn the fun mechanics of the game. If you have enjoyed playing cuphead or enjoy other platformers such as mario this is the game for you.

It’s a really fun and beautiful game.

I’ve loved the experience so far.

There are challenging bosses and puzzles but not at the point of making to hard to be fun. Great abilities can be unlocked that will make you want to come back and explore the rest of the map.

100% recommended.

Pretty bizarre metroidvania.

At its best is a puzzle game aligning tool to transfer power/electricity across rooms to open up doors. Taking these tools between rooms, trying to circumvent forbidding gates that deny you entry if you’re carrying prior gear.

At its worst you just eternally march downwards underground, shooting scorpions blindly marching back and forth, clearing spike pits with your singular jump, falling stalactites that will never hit you if you don’t stop. This interminable opening section lasts about half of the game unfortunately before the game shifts focus onto it’s more unique aspect of building laser beam networks on the fly.

Demon heart

Demon heart

Rising - Hungry Lizard

Rising - Hungry Lizard

Have Courage, Have Rage

Rising is a survival game in 8bit pixel art which will ultimately comprise multiple episodes, each one being autonomous and depicting a unique story, through the game, a la Another World (Eric Chahi). Set in nature, inspired by various trips in Brazil, Africa, India, France, Japan or Turkey, each episode will tell the quest for life of a living form on earth or beyond.

Episode #1 : Hungry Lizard

Play a lizard aiming to survive in a dangerous natural world. The lizard can eat butterflies and worms but has to prevent parrots’ attacks. He can hide, stop his movements and choose to eat his prey at the most precise moment. A satiety bar forces him to consistently eat preys. You only use the directional pad of the keyboard to navigate through the map, but the physic is precise and the lizard can move freely and stick on walls or trees to find the ideal path for his quest. It’s a cruel world and each action has to be chosen within the right moment of significance. Dedicate yourself entirely to sacrificing the flux of time for the right moment.

Hungry Lizard is a haiku

Life consists of rare, isolated moments of the greatest significance, and of innumerably many intervals, during which at best the silhouettes of those moments hover about us. Hungry Lizard consciously evokes the presence by the absence, with its pixel art graphics and sound design elegantly blended into a Zen, minimal and spatial floating world.

Truth lies in one single moment

Hungry Lizard is an arcade game and must be played as such. You can play Hungry Lizard slowly, and actually make a better score in staying in the first zone. You can optimize each movement. You don’t need to see the ending even though the game has a beautiful one. The concept is to continue playing, short or long runs, few or many points, the beauty is there nonetheless. You will eventually die. You can restart the game or let it run for itself and take a breath, enjoy the graphics, the music, the physic, because it runs for itself marvelously. Each death is different and demands a moment of recollection and contemplation. Time is therefore dedicated to seeing and experiencing.

What is essential is the isolated moment and not what comes before and after.

In Hungry Lizard, it feels like we are seeing the world for the first time. Everything is so beautiful all at once. From so many angles.
