Pirate Island Rescue

Pirate Island Rescue

Pirate Island Rescue* is a fun little casual side scrolling platformer.

Pirate Island Rescue is a simple platformer but it’s looks nice and is fun to play. The platformer part is pretty easy but you need to be cautious of some of the enemies, particularly the ones with the pistols. It’s easy to pick up and play and is a great way to kill a few hours if you want a relaxing but still fun game.

Hint- sometimes when you kill the boss pirate at the end of an island there are a few pirates waiting between him and the boat, if your not careful you’ll get shot.

This is a fun little game that you can easily complete achievements in and is also a great time killer. The graphics are good for a side scroller and the controls are very fluid. The levels are procedurally generated (randomized). If you are looking for an easy and relaxing game, this is it!

Cleo - a pirate’s tale

Cleo - a pirate’s tale

„Cleo - a pirate’s tale“ is a Solo Developed Retro Pixel Art Pirate Adventure with a lot of nostalgic flair, humor and a linear story, inspired by the old Zelda games and the classic LucasArts adventure games.

THE STORY:

„What is the most important part of a story?“

Cleo is a 14 year old cynical girl, living a repetitive life with her father in a bar. She knows everything about the epic adventures of pirate legend Captain Cabeca, but in her everyday life, she is just surrounded by boring fishermen and unsuccessful pirates, hanging around at the counter.

But when Cleo finds a strange pirate-logbook and sees a ghost, who gives her a mysterious hint, her boring life is about to get turned upside down. She is thrown into a dangerous adventure and finds herself in a world of lies, deceit, greed and bad breath - the world of pirates - and most of them are looking for the same thing:

THE TREASURE OF ETERNAL MEMORY.

KRAKEN FODDER:

“Kraken Fodder” is a mini game inside the game.

It is a card and dice game, which is taken pretty seriously among fishermen and pirates. One round takes about 5 minutes and the game is about destroying your opponents card deck with canon balls. HAHAHAR!

Throughout the game, Cleo has to play this card game against a few NPCs.

The game was successfully funded on Kickstarter in 2020. The release is planned for late 2021 with full voice acting in English and German.

ARRRGH!

Pixel Piracy

Pixel Piracy

Let’s get the obvious shït outta the way first: I like Pixel Pirates! And yes, I know it’s actually called Pixel PiraCY, but Pixel PiraTES just sounds way better.

Anyway, moving on… I like this game. I really really do. HOWEVER, I cannot POSSIBLY recommend it to ANYONE, simply because of the atrociously poor “productivity” of the so-called “developers” of the game. They CLAIM that their complete radio silence and lack of updates for over eight months was due to ONE guy’s failing health, and while I do wish him a speedy recovery, THIS DOES NOT MEAN THE REST OF YOU LOT GET TO SIT AROUND AND TWIDDLE YOUR FÛCKING THUMBS!

So normally I would write a more concise review analyzing a game, and looking at all the good parts of it but also all of it’s faults. Pixel Piracy is this special case where I absolutely adore the concept it delivers and the gameplay, but the execution is so god damn awful I can’t bring myself to play it anymore, I wanted to play it to the end and explore everything, have a massive powerful crew that would dominate the seven seas. Instead we’re left with a game that, to put it simply, is badly made. It doesn’t work, and yet it ‘released’ mere days ago. Anyway, here’s a list of about everything wrong with this game that will ruin your experience. Some issues may not seem important but do realize that all of them create unfair situations where the player is not at fault and yet the game will end up punishing them anyway or worse, just straight up giving them a situation they cannot get out of because of the god awful AI. So, here’s the list.

Curse of the Sea Rats

Curse of the Sea Rats

Curse of the Sea Rats is a ratoidvania platform adventure lovingly crafted with hand-drawn animations, which charts the epic journey of four prisoners of the British empire, turned into rats by a pirate witch. To regain their human bodies, they will have to fight dangerous bosses, explore the vast coast of Ireland, and ultimately capture the witch who cursed them.

Beautiful 2D, hand-drawn animation breath life into the game’s characters - inspired by the likes of Disney and Don Bluth and reminiscent of the golden age of 2D platforming action. These combine seamlessly with detailed 3D environments and enhanced by light and shadow to create a 2.5D platforming experience of incredible quality.

Chart your own progress through a huge, non-linear game world as you attempt to track down the pirate witch who cursed you. Shipwrecked on the coast of Ireland in the 18th Century, you’ll need more than just your swashbuckling skills to forge your path to freedom.

Whether you play alone or with up to three friends, there are four playable characters to chose from - Douglas, Buffalo, Akane, and Bussa. Each bringing their own unique fighting styles to the adventure to help you get the better of both enemies and the environment!

While each character has their own strengths and weaknesses, you’ll be able to improve their abilities as your adventure progresses - unlocking new special skills, boosting your offence and defence, or unlocking powerful magics!

A labyrinthine network of hundreds of pathways, rooms and discoveries lay before you, in a substantial quest of over 12 hours. Can your master each character’s abilities, find all of the game secrets and unlock all the multiple endings?

Many thanks to everyone who has supported us so far. We look forward to updating you on our development progress. In the meantime we would welcome any feedback in the community - and don’t forget to Wishlist if you’d like to be kept up to date on any upcoming news!

Pocket Penguin ( ポケットペンギン): A Game Boy Style Adventure

Pocket Penguin ( ポケットペンギン): A Game Boy Style Adventure

I’ve been playing this game… AND I FELL IN LOVE WITH IT!!!

This game really capture the feeling and the aesthetic of the Game Boy games.. so If you are a retro enthusiast… You’ll love it.

Real player with 10.2 hrs in game

This is a cool, adorable, charming platformer that becomes quite challenging in the last level. It controls well, the music is awesome, and it emulates the game boy feel perfectly.

The main mechanic is your bombs are used as makeshift platforms, and as your weapon. You have to manage them well, especially on bosses - because getting stuck in an area when your bombs are on cooldown is almost a sure death sentence. It’s very engaging and I loved it.

This is an easy recommendation for anyone, and especially if you like platformers.

Uncharted Tides: Port Royal

Uncharted Tides: Port Royal

I played Uncharted Tides: Port Royal on Windows. An enjoyable game with differing types of HOP’s and a reasonable storyline. The minigames were good at a decent difficulty level. I have played many many HOPA’s and though this isn’t up with Lost Lands, (understandably as that is a huge tale over many episodes,) it’s good in its own right. On first playthrough I missed one Achievement, Sea Shanty, (which i’m still at a loss as to how I missed it),

I didn’t use a walkthrough though there are ones available,

! https://www.bigfishgames.com/content/bf-blog/en/walkthroughs/uncharted-tides-port-royal.html#5 or video walkthroughs such as

I got this game as part of a bundle. Decent hidden object puzzles. Most of the puzzles were intuitive and whenever it is not you can use hints which are infinite (casual difficulty).

The hints recharge fairly quickly and I never felt completely stuck with the puzzles.

Talking about the story, I found it to be… okayy. I didn’t like the game’s music in most places. It could have been a more piratey theme.

Characters don’t have any depth. For example, Jane’s father / Ben and all other characters are completely useless because they don’t help us in anyway. They merely command us to do something because they are unable to do it. But at the end Ben gets thanked which was odd.

Don’t Sink

Don’t Sink

Don’t Sink Review

An absolutely brilliant and memorable experience lies in wait! Through its simplicity it is quite impressive and very remarkable.

Some key points that this game offers:

  1. Complete Sandbox experience.

  2. Random event occurrences.

  3. Simple and challenging.

  4. Indie Gem 4/5.

Gameplay & Controls:

The game has complete controller support so if you prefer that method you are in luck. For those that want to stick to the original method, the game makes use of the keyboard mostly. It does take a while to get used to the layout and keys, but it is perfectly doable and quite comfortable as well.

Real player with 100.1 hrs in game

Don’t Sink is a Pirate game, and a damn good one. over the course of your journey you’ll go from a small 4 cannon insignificant boat with a crew of 10 to a man of war with 48 cannons and a crew of 250. The gameplay consists of travelling from island to island finding and completing quests by well written and witty charaters. The game has light humor in its writing and its all the better for it, and sets the tone for a more lax pirate experience, which it certainly is. In travel, you will come accross pirates with boats and captain names so funny you could just say the name to someone not even playing the game and they’d laugh, which is exactly what i did. “The combat is simple but its flashy enough to be satisfying” -videogamedunkey (about assassins creed though) but its the quote i always think of when i try to explain the combat to someone else. you hold right arrow or D to begin loading the cannons, and hit enter to fire when they’re ready. you can pick between cannonballs, grapeshot, and bombs. you can also board the enemy boat and one on one sword duel the enemy captain if thats more your speed, in a 2D for honor esque combat system. If you come accross a ship that you know will absolutely body you, you can flee, as well as repair your boat mid combat. its almost turn based in the decision making aspect of heal or attack, but in real time with delays on your actions. After looting gold from pirates you’ve bested or completing quests, you buy more materials, ammo, and food for your boat. anything you’ve got leftover goes towards a new ship or your own personal island, which you can build up to be as good as an island comes. But obviously no game is perfect, and this game has its flaws too. The majority of the content in the game can be achived after about 5 hours, but that doesn’t stop you from replaying the game, as it has a hard mode, much more engaging for people looking for something a little more than a caual experince, which it mostly is. Overall, as a generally hardcore gamer i can still enjoy this game emmensily and its chill vibe only helps its case. not a game you will play for hours and hours on end, but if you just got done with a long play session of an intense game and you just wanna relax, this game is perfect for that.
