Extreme Real Reality HD Remix

An absolute mind blowing experience. This is the Mona Lisa of video games. Had my mind not been destroyed by the first two levels I would have more than 25 minutes into this astonishing accomplishment of our modern times.

Extreme Real Reality HD Remix is a quaint romp through a modern town featuring a loveable and relateable main character Carlo that may or may not be loosely based on someone you know.

What can I say about this game? Seriously having a hard time articulating a detailed analysis because my inner-fanboy is squeeing with intense delight. This game is truly masterful. A game created by a small team whom you can tell are creating something they themselves truly enjoy.

I think that is the best way to describe this game. An indie developed, JRPG-inspired RPG that was created by players who love those types of games themselves and it shows in so many ways. The quirky, sometimes downright stupid (I mean that in the most lovingly way possible like a dumb, cute puppy) dialogue, the battle system with it’s difficulties and strategies, and even the artwork and music. All of it shows a passion that few other teams can match.

Non-spoiler afterthoughts/feedback:

This game had a lot of what I love about classic RPGs in a nutshell. The art is definitely very good quality and the OST tracks are immersive though they struggle with awkward loops at times. There are times where there should be some music or sound effects that leave you in complete silence, also. It struggles a bit in plot coherency & depth, but makes up for it in other areas. Encountered a few bugs which seem to exist pretty late into this game’s post-release development (mostly related to battle mechanics, player/enemy stats & menu options bugs). Some humorous dialogue at times, definitely doesn’t take itself too seriously and isn’t afraid to reveal that it draws a lot of inspiration from other games. I like the additions that the DLC brings but I do wish it had been integrated in a way that made more sense in the timeline of how the player’s progress naturally flows.

Dead Synchronicity: Tomorrow Comes Today

Dead Synchronicity: Tomorrow Comes Today

I really enjoyed playing this game. Definately recommended.

Pros:

  • No bugs/glitches encountered

  • Intuitive, easy yet functional game mechanics

- Very special story: interesting characters, good narrative (!)

  • Nice visuals / graphic design

  • Decent voice acting*

  • Getting stuck (not knowing what to do) is very rare

*I just read a thread in the forums about the “terrible” voice acting of this game. I can definately not confirm that. Its maybe not the very best or special but absoluteley ok (both, the german and also the english voice acting, I played both).

ESPRESSO SHOT REVIEW

While Dead Synchroncity is not a bad game, it’s just not as intriguing as I was expecting. There is nothing to pull you into the game. While not incredibly difficult, and fairly well done, the game lacks a deep story or inventive puzzles. Score: 4.5/10.

PROS

  • hitting the spacebar prevents pixel hunting

  • nice art style

  • main character is a good voice actor

  • some nice soliloquies

CONS

  • not an engaging story

  • puzzles are weak

  • annoying flashbacks

Knock-knock

Knock-knock

Don’t look at the Metacritic reviews.

It’s hard to explain this minimalist game, but it definitely has something about it. A very special experience that completely justifies the whole mystery surrounding it. Don’t read anything about this game. Simply get it and play it if you’re into subtle creepy games, if you’re into urban legends, creepypasta - this is a lot like it, but on a superior level of quality and attention. This is my favorite type of horror. The entire game is like a weird lucid dream yet, not where you are in total control. There are visitors.

Knock Knock is Dark Souls meets The Stanley Parable which plays hide and seek with Amensia: The Dark Descent. According to the game one should play at night in the dark, alone (and most likely with headphones on).

The biggest Steam complaints I found in the reviews was this game was repetitive and frustrating. What RPG game, for example, Dark Souls, is not repetitive and frustrating, and just because Knock Knock has no blood splatter and gut spillage that does not mean one does not die, which happens more often then one is lead to believe. (When one dies, it is done without fanfare.) This of course leads to the entire campaign having to be redone from the beginning which is both frustrating and repetitive just like in Dark Souls (and screaming at the computer scene in utter frustration can occur). Another comparison to be noted between the two is where as the player collects souls in Dark Souls, in Knock Knock the player collects time. Each campaign though not timed until the much later levels is timed based. The player must collect time to reach the dawn of the day either by surviving the night hours by watching the slow moving clock or finding a “clock” which speeds up time (found only by turning on lights and remembering). Running into the monsterous “guests” (some of whom will hunt the player down), let into the house through breaches of the dimensional fabric (which need to be closed or can be walked through) will lose the player time or their life. This whole game is one way, no level can be repeated, only the entire game once an ending is reached.

Whateverland: Prologue

Whateverland: Prologue

This is a great Demo that has made me very interested in donating to the Kickstarter and I strongly hope it succeeds as I would love to see the full game. The art style, gameplay mechanics and quirky writing are very good for a teaser, really appeals to my weird sense of humour. It reminds me a lot of Pinstripe, another dark comedy indie game I love but this game seems to offer more replay value.

My two biggest complaints are 1) the Voice Acting needs improving, the voices for the supporting characters are fine enough they have a fitting quirkiness to them but the Voice of the main character is honestly quite dull, since this is just a demo for the Kickstarter it’s understandable, I just hope final version has better voice and 2) I was stuck at the Pickpocketing segment as no matter what buttons I pressed I couldn’t return the pick I had selected to replace it with one I needed, maybe I missed something and if so would apreciate it if someone told me, I hope this mechanic becomes more understandable how to use in full release.

This game introduction episode, imo, is charming and witty.

Being a free Prologue, this is obviously a short enticement for the full game.

Exploring the area, mechanics, design, dialogue, acting, story and puzzles were fun, smooth and a really good incentive to complete the adventure.

I found the characters to be delightful and already, am invested in them and the storyline.

My second run-thru, to complete the achievements, was quick, with the skip scene abilities, except for some scenes, and the alternate dialogues were interesting.

Despite the fact I backed the game because of sentiment of the setting I quite suprised because I really enjoy it:) Especially, I love movement of the ship-as physicist I really enjoy it:) From my point of view it is very realistic

It is simple game, but with lot of possibility to play:)

Poor. It is, more or less, about the quality of a cheap game from 1995 with poor documentation and mechanics. Worse, the campaign game is pretty buggy. I’ll probably put some more effort into learning/playing…maybe some of it is a learning curve and maybe some of it has a bug/fix/workaround.

Pros

~Bright, vivid visuals

~Worthy soundtrack

~Genius level design

~Consistently fun throughout

Cons

~Uneven difficulty balance

~Mixed bag plot/voice acting

Freedom Planet came about as the result of a Sonic the Hedgehog fan game coming to the realisation that it could probably be sold for actual money if it dropped references to Sega’s intellectual property and threw in some “original” characters instead.

And by “original,” I mean original in the Sonic the Hedgehog original character sense.

With the release of Sonic Mania, i feel that it is time to talk about this wonderful game.

“What is Freedom Planet?” you may be asking. Freedom Planet was a game that originally was a Sonic The Hedgehog ROM Hack, but after the creators deciding that they could make a unique game out of it, they built a new engine from scratch, removing all the likenesses of sonic, and after they did that, they went to kickstarter to fund the game. After some overwhelming success, they went on to produce and publish the game today, known as Freedom Planet.

Adventures of Pip

Adventures of Pip

As a supporter of this game since its first Kickstarter with high hopes and standards for the game, I’m thoroughly glad to be able to finally recommend this game to everyone!

tl;dr: The Adventures of Pip offers a tight and well-balanced puzzle platforming experience bolstered by its strong soundtrack, visuals, and mechanics but marred by a slightly weak story!

Adventures of Pip showcases, well, Pip’s adventure as he seeks to save the land from the evil Skeleton Queen!

The Bit Stream allows him to transform between 3 different forms/resolutions, from a one-bit boxel to a sword-wielding 16-bit warrior. Each form has its own benefits and drawbacks (as a boxel, Pip is slow, weak, but can float and greatly decrease the speed of his fall), allowing for many variations in gameplay as you evolve and devolve Pip to solve the many puzzles in the game! It’s an awesome concept utilized very well in conjunction with the tight controls and varying game mechanics!

$15.00 are they serious???

While the game is nowhere near worth that price, it is a very fun, occasionally challenging platformer to play. The story is that some evil queen has kidnapped the kingdom’s princess knowing that she has the ability to create pixels from nothingness. The queen hopes to absorb this power and reverse it, turning game characters in the kingdom back to pixels. The queen further wreaks havoc on the kingdom by taking 108 of its villagers and hiding them in a variety of 5 landscapes that have been divided into 36 levels for your gaming pleasure. Like always the Evil queen lets the power get to her head and for no reason whatsoever decides that she needs to turn everyone into a pixel so that they no longer are a threat.
