Clarevoyance

Clarevoyance

I do like the nostalgia of being back in Southwestern Nova Scotia. It’s kind of neat with the folklore twist and the questing. I appreciate the history that’s shared. I have told my kids about various bits of history from back home like Samuel de Champlain and the Expulsion. I showed them the Clare Lore that backs up the thing I knew. There’s so much more I didn’t know or forgot from 6th grade social studies class

One thing I wish were better, some scenes are pretty laggy. I’m kind of surprised given the simple layout of the game.

This game was a trip. Clarevoyance is a visual novel with light resource management elements set in the Acadian municipality of Clare in Nova Scotia. The images in the game are all taken in the region and all dialogue is voiced by locals in Acadian French with English subtitles. I am from New Brunswick originally so it sounds pretty nostalgic.

You play as someone visiting relatives in Clare over the summer. As you travel around doing different activities and “spinning yarns” with the locals, you start to realize that things are not quite as they seem. The story incorporates local legends in a way that was pretty clever and fun. The resource management portion involves earning money, buying food and managing your “well being”, a sort of HP gauge that decreases when you use your powers to interact with the local mythology and increases when you do certain fun activities. There is also a time system where activities use up certain amounts of time in a day, and some things can only be done at specific times of day. There isn’t a time limit though so you can take as long as you want to proceed through the story.

Cardinal Chains

Cardinal Chains

This is a fantastic little puzzle game that offers a simple premise but a lot of depth. Your goal is simple, make chains of integers that only ascend. While this is simple at first, the more complex the board and the more starting points you get make for an increasingly difficult challenge, and with over 500 puzzles you will be at this game for a while. It’s the sort of game you get suck on for hours and then come back to a few days later and solve in a few minutes, and then get stuck all over again.

Precision platform is always difficult, right, no surprises. But here the level is really insane. You will suffer, but the minimalist music is well fitted and will bring you some calm. But make no mistake, you will suffer here. I recommend it for those who are experts in precision platforms at the hell level.

A really fun and hard game! Not so hard so as to make the game only beatable by experts, but surely enough to make you want to master its mechanics and think of the best way of passing through the levels. And not only do the levels ask you to be fast and precise, but often also require you to think and come up with a good strategy for beating a more delicate point.

And one of the best parts of the game: even if you keep dying and dying at the same point in a level, you will never get angry because the music is so soothing and relaxing - the perfect match for a game like this!

Nice and simple game, great music and concept. It would be a very good game for its scale if it got some more polish in the way how the controls work and how the game communicates its concepts.

Some feedback for the developer(s):

  1. To jump I drag my mouse pointer and that’s fine. What’s weird is that it seems like the game tracks not how I drag the pointer on the screen, but how it moves in the game world. Meaning that if i fall down my arrow starts pointing down and I have to cancel my attempt.

L’Onza the Bounty Hunter

Pure bullethell in which everything is available from the start. Pick your mode -arcade, campaign or challenge - and fly mode -vertical, horizontal and arena- and try to survive as long as you can while dodging enemy bullets and shooting them with a machine gun, shotgun and laser beam. The last two have limited number of shots that recharge over time. As your screen gets filled with enemy bullets, you’ll need to use your only special power - slow mode. But even that won’t help you get far. Enemies just keep coming and always get to fire at least one shot at your position. If you don’t hurry up and take them out fast, you’ll be dead before you know it. Bosses might take a cheap shot at you (unblockable lasers) and they gain extra attacks as you cause damage to them.

Didn’t seem fair for a game not to have a review

Well There isn’t much but it is made buy Built in a Day Games so I can’t really be mad at that now can I.

Pros:

It is a bullet hell in the sense of I dare anyone to actually beat it.

Spacebar slowing down time in a bullet hell is a new one for me but it doesn’t last forever

Right click does a more powerful shot but again it doesn’t last forever

The soundtrack sounds like something I would hear on the Super Nintendo

Cons:

One song and no sound effects so far. Again “Built in a Day” but maybe just one other song for boss battles perhaps?

I really enjoyed the humor in this game some of it was really great. The music was really nice and relaxing and some of the picture frames were calming and romantical. I’m glad that there was a few differences in the second play through but I wish there was more there’s not a dynamic change in the story from choosing one thing from choosing another the main story stays the same even though you may get some more humorous responses depending on what you pick. Definitely worth at least one play through if you enjoy romantic visual novels and they do a good job at covering feelings/outlook that someone with mental health would experience.

I honestly loved playing this game, I randomly decided to play it on my twitch stream because it was a new visual novel and it looked pretty (visual wise and interesting plot wise). It really touches on the realism of just self identity in the ethnicity and culture aspect (for June) and the hardships and challenges dealing with mental health (for Miles). It was honestly very cute and wholesome, I thought we’d be able to make our own constellations by scratch but I honestly didn’t mind the premade ones because it was very creative. We get to somewhat see the perspectives and imagination of the two characters as themselves and as a couple which was very cute. I don’t wanna spoil to much but the author put in a lot of thought for their back stories and the characters, I totally rate the game ♡♡♡
