DUSK ‘82: ULTIMATE EDITION

DUSK ‘82: ULTIMATE EDITION

Dusk ‘82 has reminded me of how awesome dungeon crawlers are, as well as the fun and sometimes tricky puzzles within them. If it’s okay to compare it to other games, I’d say there are elements/influences of Ultima, Rogue, Chip’s Challenge and even ZZT in here, intentional or otherwise. It combines a lot of what made those games fun to play and turns it up to 11.

It’s short, sweet and the world is your oyster in terms of customisation and level creation so hopefully this will be one of the most community-serviced titles on this platforms as it has the potential to be.

Another master piece of David Szymanski, DUSK 82 has to offer a great 8-bit action-puzzler that was used as the prequel of the original classic cult shooter DUSK.

Created in such a simple style, this game reached the expectations that the fans were hopping for the next title of the DUSK series.

I enjoyed the puzzles that the game delivered including the music that was adapted from the first game successfully, meaning that I didnt even felt boring while doing the run of the entire game.

In my final review I would give:

BOOM Bound

BOOM Bound

BOOM Bound is a Fast-paced, Real-time, Strategic Movement and Pattern game where you can play online with up to 6 friends.

The goal of the game is to have the player get across the map by dodging repeating explosions and moving objects.

Inspired by one of the best real-time strategy UMS category (bound) of all time. This game currently has:

  • 100 unique levels that will keep you busy for hours!

  • 8 unique explosion patterns and level themes!

  • 7 Player skins!

  • True cross-platform/cross-device online multiplayer play (Windows, Mac, Android, iOS)!

In the future, I plan to add these high-level features:

  • Endless Mode v1 (There are no safe zones and the Area is the level. You don’t have time to prepare and must dodge by memorizing where to go in a trial-by-error style fashion)

  • Endless Mode v2 (Player Spawns on the level with one life and upon beating it, will take them to the next level (or else they start over))

  • 13 More Levels with Explosion Patterns

  • Leaderboard/Achievements

  • Level Editor

  • Allow players to host private & public lobbies to show off their custom-made levels

Chessformer

Chessformer

Chessformer is a grid-based puzzle platformer with Chess pieces. Each of the pieces moves as expected, but they fall down after moving and can’t move again until they stop falling. Pieces also stack on top of each other which is key to solving most levels. The goal in each level is to capture the opposing king, who is lazy and never moves, so don’t worry about losing any pieces.

DUNGEON ENCOUNTERS

DUNGEON ENCOUNTERS

Summary

A solid dungeon crawler that gets straight to the action. Combat is satisfying if ultimately simple, the exploration is pleasant in a completionist way, and the variety of locations keeps the visuals fresh as you progress.

However, a lack of plot and world-building and some glaring omissions on the QoL side leave this game falling short of what it could have been.

7/10 if you enjoy the dungeon crawler genre. Even then I’d probably wait for a sale, since $30 is a bit steep.

Hard pass otherwise, as there’s nothing else on offer.

I can´t reccomend it at all . It looks like Alpha build. And using dungeon terminology. This game is like skeleton, some interesting bones, but juicy flesh is missing. Over simplistic, very low possibilityo of customisation . Only reasonable explanation, that can justify it , this game was created for Active mode only (no wait mode of ATB)

Personally only thing similar I know is Labyrinth of Tohou 2. I will reccomend it instead but be warned, Where Dungeon Encounters is casual and simplistic , Tohou2 is hardcore and very complicated and too many characters for my liking.

Godless Tactics

Godless Tactics

TL;DR, Solid turn-based RPG with plenty of tactics and strategies that will bring dozens of hours of enjoyment, and plenty of replayability. Video from developer that shows gameplay for those wanting to see how the game works.

This game could best be described as a mix of Fire Emblem and Total War. While not as shiny and new as the more recent editions of those franchises, it definitely has the depth of strategy and story that either have. As someone who doesn’t really get that endorphin kick from Fire Emblem-esque games, I wasn’t sure I would get a significant amount from the combat. But I was wrong: Godless Tactics has a very simple, yet deep, combat system that makes proper strategy feel rewarded. I greatly enjoyed thinking about what to do on my turn, and every counterattack and loss felt honestly deserved. But boy oh boy, does methodically slaughtering the enemy feel even better.

Haven’t had this much fun with a strategy game in years!

In this game, there’s real strategic value in exploring remote areas, or in raiding supply lines while avoiding larger armies, or in reinforcing key locations on the map into massive chokepoints, in short, lots of stuff you can do to meaningfully contribute to your allies’ war effort apart from the obvious conquest of settlements. High-level weapons and items that you may find allow you to take on foes way more numerous or higher-level than yourself, and different classes naturally excel at the different tasks detailed above.

An interesting combination game

What this game is: It is a combination game where by matching three similar value dice, you get to form one of a higher value.

How does it work? The game has 50 setups you need to solve. Each setup will have from one to three coloured bases (blue, yellow and dark orange). You need to move from these bases to “integrate” some like coloured dice located farther away. Moving means placing by default a one point die on each square you travel through, and once you’ve made three, the dice will automatically combine at the last die you’ve placed on the board. Once you have solved the 50 original setups, the game proposes you 5 timed speed runs of 10 setups each.

I’m disappointed. First of all you can’t change to a windowed mode. Alt-enter will give you a window but the game doesn’t resize so it’s unplayable like that. Highly annoying. Second, there are two modes, your basic levels and they unlock the timed trials. Sounds like a lot of puzzles. Nope. Same ones. To make it seem like there are more puzzles the dev duplicated the original levels to make a new mode allowing you to time yourself. Why couldn’t that be in the basic leveling mode? If the puzzles were different and you had to complete them under a certain time frame, then okay. But the same ones and only seeing what you time is to beat yourself is bogus as a separate mode.

To fit in with the rest of my visual novel library, I’d have to give this game the merit of being the least sexual visual novel I have played. The cutscenes are short but inspire introspection and deep thinking. The gameplay, while confusing, is deeply entertaining. Since the beta I received, I have unlocked all secret endings, and I must say, the devs know their writing.

Like many games of the puzzle genre, the artwork may seem simplistic, but it works for this game. You’re not here for the graphics anyway, but for the puzzles. I like how this game ramps slowly - showing you how to use opening chests as a way to “skip” a turn and get the baddies close to your sword. One thing to remember is that to complete a level you just have to get all the chests, not kill all the baddies. I struggle with a few levels until I realized I could just let the baddies chase me around the map while I moved to get the chest. I have only a few nitpicks

Stream Quest

First of all, if the gameplay doesn’t bring you in, it’s the tunes. The first 15 minutes of my play time for this game was jamming to the menu music. Too good. I would gladly buy a soundtrack.

The concept of the game is really easy to pick up and my viewers caught on quick.

A perfect way to kill a few minutes in between a stream, or in my case, a way to wind down at the end of stream to just chat and cheer on your community.
