TERRORHYTHM (TRRT) - Rhythm driven action beat ‘em up!

It pains me to write a negative review for this game, but in its current state, TERRORHYTHM is just not that enjoyable

Don’t get me wrong, being a fan of rhythm games, I like this game and see great potential for it, but there are a couple major issues that prevent me from truly enjoying the game

Messy calibration system

Other reviewers have covered how this feature breaks when you use controllers, but since I’ve never used a controller for this game, I’ll let you read those reviews for more accurate information. However, there is still something else that is rather done poorly.

“Easy to Learn, Hard to Master” game.

First of all, I love the art style!

There was a lot of cool design in the different backgrounds and animation. Also the weapons - (that you’ll get from enemies) - katanas, throwing discs and a giant reaper scythe that looks cool as hell as you slice down enemies).

The music is also brilliant!

Every single track here is big and thumping and geared towards making you want to move. WIthin seconds of starting up the first level, I found myself bopping along in my seat, and that set the tone for every other level.  BTW, you also can add in your own songs.

Killer Queen Black

Killer Queen Black

This game’s primary method of finding games or people to play with is their discord. However, there is severe nepotism and bias between the devs and a specific discord moderator that leads to someone being banned from their discord permanently for something they stated in the game itself. Nowhere in the discord did this so called person do anything against the rules, but because of something they said in the voice chat in game, they received a permanent ban from their discord. This led to them not being able to find people to play with, people GAMETHROWING whenever on a team with him or his friends, and they were essentially cut off from the entire community as a whole. All of this due to something they said in voice, and they weren’t banned off the game. The moderator that has nepotism with the devs mentioned that gamethrowing was not as big of an issue because they were doing it while on the team with the person in question.

Is this a Jojo’s reference?

EDIT: I left this as recommended so that people can see this honest review of a game I had once been hopeful for.

I have been a huge fan of the arcade version called Killer Queen and had been stoked about a version of the game coming to PC and Nintendo Switch. I managed to play in the beta and was in complete awe of the game. I was hooked and loved it so much. It was such a fresh take on the arcade version.

There were issues during beta that have been addressed and I had hoped that they would have been taken care of. Sadly, after the games launch, I noticed that they had not been fixed. They were some adjustments made such as berries being lobbed instead of being thrown as if it were shot out of a canon, which was a good change, but they reverted the increased cooldown to 1 second that causes games to go incredibly fast on certain maps. They were changes to certain maps that have managed to make the econ victory condition met with such insane ease. I have talked with some of the developers numerous ways on how that map can be improved and most were blown off. There has been little to no change in improving the game on a competitive level to make other victory conditions possible.

Intorduction

I have never been a fan of bullet hell games reason being is that I always can’t keep up with the action that is going on the screen and I usually give up if it is too hard but as for Sora I liked it in fact I loved it and it is quite addictive, because it is manageable for me and I could say I did have a great time playing Sora. Sora tells the story of its namesake: the lone enhanced human, Sora, and her struggle to protect a fading world. Enjoy breathtakingly fast-paced combat in the Suguri universe, with improved game system and graphics along with original trance music by DEKU.

Let’s be honest.

If you’re buying this game, you’re buying it for Sora (Military) and that’s the only reason.

Same with the other games.

But that doesn’t mean it isn’t good in it’s own right.

Out of the games that give you bonus characters i’ve played (AoS 2 hasn’t been released yet, and i don’t care enough about Aru (Scramble) to get her game) this is most certainly the best. The gameplay is more refined and detailed, the story is much more deep than “QP wants pudding back” and it actually makes you feel bad for the characters, even some of the bosses.

Trivia Throwdown

Trivia Throwdown

So far I have put 6.5 hours into Trivia Throwdown and have enjoyed all 6.5 hours of it! The game has a lot of subjects that will keep you busy and to add to the fun you also get to pick characters as your “fighter” that represents you as you try to answer questions to “beat” down your opponent. So this game isn’t just a bunch of endless questions.

When you start the game you get to pick your fighter as well as 2 of the 9 topics in the game that are your “go to” topics. When you start you get to pick from three topics for each question and the questions are rated by levels of 1-5 with 5 being the most difficult question., you buzz in your answer as does your opponent. If you answer correctly and your opponent answers incorrectly you land a blow of differing strengths to the other guy based on how hard the question was.

The Short of it: A neat spin on the Trivia genre that adds a fighting game visual theme to the mix. Easy to learn and get into, and I really enjoyed the variety of questions (lots of good gaming/movies questions, etc).

Reminds me of: If you liked Trivial Pursuit, Jeopardy, or any other good trivia game there’s a good chance you’ll like Trivia Throwdown.

Bully Beatdown

Bully Beatdown

Full disclosure - I helped with play testing, bug testing, made some suggestions, etc. on a beta key given by the developer.

It’s been a while since I’ve played a beat ‘em up game.

This game’s art style and smooth play (even on as old of a machine as mine) was very appealing.

Starting on Easy difficulty seemed like a good step - normal is a bit tough without having some skills leveled up.

The game starts with a very short tutorial that also acts as a way to map your keys / buttons.

As soon as you get accustomed to how the game plays, the strategy for each enemy type, level up skills, etc. you’ll find yourself completing the same difficulty faster if you ever need to restart for any reason.

You are sitting in the school cafeteria eating your lunch, just as you do everyday, when a student starts picking on you about going to the prom. They mock you, saying you should ask out the most popular girl in school, who you really think is just the most dreamy girl in the world. Then the jock comes along; he sees your gaze cast upon her, and as with every other time, he moves in to beat you down. But today is not like every other day; you have had enough of the abuse and you fight back against the entire school that has treated you so poorly. So begins the Fat Kid’s Adventure!

Gekido Kintaro’s Revenge

Gekido Kintaro’s Revenge

Gekido Kintaro’s Revenge is an okay Beat ‘em up game, so it’s time for the story.

After stopping the evil Kintaro, our hero Tetsuo returns to his sensei’s house were all is quiet for a year. But soon his sensei feels a dark, ominous and evil presence returning, he sends Tetsuo to a faraway farming village outside the city to see what it is.

Now let’s talk about the likes. The game play was simple, but fun. Some of the enemies were cool looking. Game was not too hard and the cutscenes were nice to look at. Survive mode in the game was okay.

Real player with 5.3 hrs in game

I was craving a simple beat ‘em up and the colorful retro graphics of Gekido caught my eye. I have to say I sure am glad it wasn’t more expensive as I frankly hate this game. The stages and enemies were designed to make every death feel incredibly cheap and infuriating. Every trap is guaranteed to hit until you know their exact placement ahead of time, and even then it’s a toss as they appear just off the screen so you often can not be precise enough. Both the enemy AI and your own combos tend to place you overlapping an enemy sprite, rendering you incapable of striking that specific enemy regardless of the direction you’re facing, while the said enemy has no issue striking you. The jumps are imprecise and will leave you wondering whether you should keep trying or if the gap really is just too big. The hit boxes on some objects make absolutely no sense (a falling rock will hurt you even though it misses by a half an inch on the screen), and the game even has a habit of forgetting to let you move after you clear the screen of all enemies making you restart the stage. Do yourself a favor and replay Streets of Rage 4 instead if you need a simple but properly made game.
