Terrordrome - Reign of the Legends

Terrordrome - Reign of the Legends

Absolute waste of money, would not recommend, I think I might’ve actually found the most bottom of the barrel game on here. I remember playing the demo version of this game way back in 2018 during their Kickstarter. The demo was slow and clunky and heavily filled with glitches, but since it was a demo I thought they might improve as development went on, it’s 2021 now and this game still doesn’t feel like it’s worth wasting $15, not even if it was on sale for $5. I mean what could you expect from a game that only has like 2 people working on it, 1 person working on the animations and the other working on the coding. Playing the game feels like if it’s devoid of any testers, I’m guessing that’s where the player comes in. You can tell this is one of the those half-baked, mobile games where they expect the player/buyer to report things wrong with their game so the devs could fix it while at the same time make vlogs and livestreams about their joke of a project. I’d recommend anything else, anything!

If you’re a fan of the first Terrordrome: Rise of the Boogeymen, and more importantly familiar with how to play the previous entry, you’ll find that it’s sequel Terrordrome: Reign of the Legends is worth your while. Even if you’re new to the series, this is a simple fighting game with a multitude of complex mechanics that are fun to explore.

As of writing this review, the is in an Early Access version, so understand that the game is incomplete. The developers, who consist of a small indie team, are actively working on the game and speak directly to their fans and community. So feedback is frequently received and considered.

The Black Heart

The Black Heart

CHECKLIST

☑ A stabby, murderous child

☑ Grudge noises

☑ A tree that can, and will, kick fruit in your face

☑ An undying, genderswapping masochist

☑ A sexy spider lady

☑ A Lovecraftian worm creature that just-so-happens to be purple

The Black Heart features these six vastly different playable characters, each representing a different aspect of horror. They all mesh together into a smooth, satisfying fighting game that is wildly underrated in the mainstream FGC. The story and presentation are top-notch, as is the music and sound design.

A cool looking fighter game with horror and gore? sign me in!

At the time of writing this review I haven’t played the game a whole lot, but what little I did experience was very good!

…for the most part at least.

The only negatives I can think of are: the lack of content, and the lack of characters (although considering the price it’s no wonder that there isn’t as much content as in other fighting games). I understand that this might drive some people away from it. But if you happen to be brave enough I can guarantee that you won’t be dissapointed!

It’s sort of like Streets of Rage, I think. Never played that game, but I’m familiar with it’s type: a sort of 2.5D brawler where you shuffle along a mostly 2D plane, but can slowly shift axis. Your attacks mostly only hit along the same axis, though there’s some wiggle room, thankfully. Animations are good, mostly, but combat can start to feel pretty tedious at times, especially since you can’t run from encounters at all, so if you’re struggling to beat a mid-boss, as I was, you have to fight every enemy leading up to them over and over again. Get’s pretty grating. Furthermore, because a lot of evasion depends on positioning, and the basic movement is really slow, it can get quite hard to evade when there are a lot of enemies on screen. You have a spear twirl that can clear out people right next to you, but if it doesn’t connect, you’re basically certain to get counter-attacked in the brief window you’re locked in after the spin. And if you get knocked down with enemies nearby, you’d be better off just laying there because you’re likely to get utterly crushed the second you stand before given any chance to defend yourself. Just a bit of a grind. Not the worst game, but not really something I can get into.

Bloody Layne

Bloody Layne

Bloody Layne tells a dark vampire story with fully voiced dialogue. You decide, how to play and which path the story will take.

  • Play as you want to play! Not grinding is most rewarding!

  • Drink the blood from your enemies, transform into a bat or become a new Nosferatu with his own servants. Let Layne bath in the blood of his enemies and become insane.

  • Unlock different endings, each with unique storylines and battles.

  • Choose between different skills and create your own playstyle.

  • Straight forward dialogue and meaningful dialogue choices, which have real consequences.

  • Enjoy fast combat with lots of variety. Encounter more than 30 enemy types, which will try to claim the bounty on your head!

Control Layne, who wakes up and finds out that he has been bitten by a vampire. A dark voice whispers to Layne in his head and teaches him how to defend himself with magic and how to get stronger! Now Layne will have to face his creator, who lives in his castle on the mountains. A random set of bosses will challenge Layne on his way to the top, like the Black Mage, who can help you to become human again. Layne might be haunted by the old castle ghost, who eventually transforms into his old rotten body. Sometimes a vampire hunter will show up, to challenge Layne to a duel. An Assassin might stop Layne and lets him dance to avoid a rain of bombs.

Tip: Just play as you want on your first playthrough and have fun.
