The Short of it: A fun mix of many nostalgic games from decades past, infused with some modern ingenuity. AGHR does arcade / replay value correctly, and is worthwhile / fun for the price - it put a smile on my face =)

Reminds me of: If you liked Strikey Sisters , you’ll probably like Aliens Go Home Run.

I have mixed feelings about this game for a couple of reasons, one is that the balance and difficulty curve in this game is often pretty bad and, after taking a break from video games for a couple of weeks, the game has seemingly deleted my save data (I was at the final boss too). I do however definitely recommend this game and here’s why.

First of all, the game practically oozes charm. If you’re into games that are built upon a wacky or crazy idea, or even into games with a good sense of humor, then this is definitely the game for you. Who knew that bloodthirsty aliens could be fought off with baseball ey? The charm even seeps into the gameplay too. At the base of the game we have Breakout but with a completely different rule set. It actually makes Breakout engaging and fun to play, and honestly the worlds/levels that are good are REALLY GOOD. I had a blast playing the levels I actually enjoyed. And holy hell the music in this game is so damn good. I really wish there were more tracks. This is probably more of a backhanded compliment but the music is SO good that I feel like it’s wasted somewhat. Most of the bosses share the same theme and I think it would’ve been cool to have separate boss themes. But that’s just me. The art style and character designs are super cool too.

The game has lovely neat graphics and nice sound but… everything else is a bit bland and boring.

Powerups are very limited and not scale with stage.

Boss and mid-boss are die-and-try until you know the pattern until you relise you need to restart the game from scrath every time.

The main problem is that powerups are given randomly so is actually possible to have one or two stages without a single powerup.

beating a boss without any powerup is just plain tedious.

Even if you learn the patterns by heart the puny base laser is just a torture to bring down bosses.

Weapon of Choice

Weapon of Choice

Aliens from deep space are splicing their genes with humans and creating mutants beyond imagination. Surprise! Surprise! Humanity is doomed unless the Solus Operatives can do something about it. With your help, Earth could be saved for a day or two. You know, at least until the next alien invasion. Combining striking visuals, interesting weapons, and run & gun shootemup action, Weapon of Choice is a pretty memorable experience.

There is a lot that’s unique about this game. There are 7 stages, but your average play-through takes place over 2 or 3 of them. Admittedly, this decision is pretty strange. Usually action games - even if they have branching paths - consist of 5 or more stages. I suppose it works due to the variety of environments and enemies. Each branch changes things up, and the operatives you control can have different effects on the mission. The replay-value is further improved by a selection of difficulties. Since the good guys die in a single hit, the harder settings are a bit more creative in their implementation. You won’t see boring changes like “good guys take more damage”. The harder settings have enemies exhibit different behaviors, fire more projectiles, drop menacing saw-blades, and so on.

Disclosure: I helped with pre-release testing for this game, and received a key from the developer for that purpose.

If you’ve ever played Mommy’s Best Games' best-known title, Serious Sam: Double D, you might be interested in this, their very first release back on XBox Live Indie Games, which turned out to be something of a prototype for Double D. Like its descendent Weapon of Choice is a Contra-esque side-scrolling “run-n-gun”, but best played (assuming you’re using a controller) with a “twin stick” scheme, with the left analog used for movement, the right for aiming and shooting, and the shoulder/trigger buttons for other functions. Moreover, WoC helps to showcase what would become the developer’s instantly-recognizable brand of creatively gaudy visual flair and dark but good-natured humor which would prove a perfect match for Sam.

Abduction Action! Plus

Abduction Action! Plus

This game may be for kids, caroonish, casual and full of awesome sound effects and voices but.. it’s lots of fun!!! xD

It’s clearly an indie game, but it offers lots of funny text and backstory, and tons of different quests!

You’ll control an alien spaceship and well, you’ll have to do everything the game asks you to through some funny alien texts! The game controls are responsive and it can be greatly enjoyed with your keyboard only!

You’ll have keys for abducting (or just pulling up with your green laser) everything on the ground, you’ll fly of course through the various locations, you’ll also have a key for dropping bombs and for boosting your way through the sky.

“Earthlings, save your cheerleaders”

Quite little fun game with retro sprites look. You are an alien ufo. In each level you have to complete several tasks like abduct cows or kill ppl with highdrops or smash boulders on them. There are even bosses which you fight like the 20ft football mascot, a helicopter or a tank. Best level I found was level 2. You have to abduct cheerleaders to annoy the football team. But they have manly squeaking female voices - hillarious. The hard rock & heavy metal soundtrack is also very nice. Just have to complain about the unnatural spawnrates and the nearly invisible bullets in the sky. But nevertheless a nice and entertaining game.

Great Game. It has really nice graphics, awesome storytelling, and is very polished.

This is a very good start, I hope that the creator continues on with games like this, because he will get a lot of success with this formula, I personally think.

10/10 would recommend.

I wouldn’t worry for the price, it is a very reasonable price for the time and effort that the creator put in it.

I haven’t had much time to play the game, but for the time I spent on it, it was great.

You won’t regret buying it, it’s just a lot of fun.

Retro Vaders: Reloaded

Retro Vaders: Reloaded

All the fun and tension of Space Invaders with lots of little extras.

Only had little go but quickly found myself being hooked and wanting to have one more go. Like the score table as this is another incentive to try and get into the top 10 :-)

The background music is excellent & really suits the game.

I haven’t played much yet but sure i will be buying the DLC after a few more games.

Good quality little indie game based on the classic space invaders and for free. Highly recommend.
