Guardians of Hyelore

Guardians of Hyelore

I’ve had the pleasure of testing this game in and out during the beta. At the highest level of difficulty this game provides quite the challenge and I’ve enjoyed all 45 hours that I’ve spent playing the game!

Cute graphics

Hard challenge

Good replayability

As a side note, this game is a solo indie dev’s first project ever, so he earns my total respect for that! Can’t wait to see what’s in store next!

This review is further detailed in the video below.

Guardians of Hyelore is a diamond in a rough for those that enjoy the defense style of games. I am impressed by the amount of progression options and the amount of work that went into this. For the right price this is easily a day 1 buy for me.

Worbital

i used to own this game, but i refunded it for two vital reasons:

1. The weapons are annoying sometimes due to how cooldowns are just insanely long, especially since you have to wait a year and a half just to build the dang thing.

2.for such a high price, this game really doesn’t present alot of content that’s ready to use, especially how most of the weapons that even have a good gimmick to them you just need to unlock, plus the multiplayer is just a wee bit broken.

My final suggestion: Perhaps lower the cooldown of some weapons, and also. If the price was around 6.70 or 7.50 it would make more sense, considering how this isin’t really a HUGE game, so alot of the time people especially like me kinda pick it up, expect more when they first boot up the game, get bored, refund it, and then they end up realising that there was actually some really good content that they just didn’t play long enough to actually encounter. so in summary, not a bad game, but it really bites you in the rear once you spend your funds and then proceed to do what i mentioned.

An amazing and fun game where matches may usually take up to 20 minutes. Choose one of the 3 races, each having a different playstyle and a variety of weapons. Attack enemies, harvest funds and build super weapons that unleash true chaos. Knocking planets out of orbit, black holes, asteroids, nukes and huge laser beams make matches intense and involve many clutch moments.

The campaign missions go by really quickly. Even though it’s a similar story for each race, the endings are different. The character design is pretty neat, each leader having a very distinct personality. There’s also an Extreme Mode for the campaign, which makes the AI really freaking hard. After like 10 tries of the 3-rd Terrene mission I just gave up. Extreme Mode is still beatable with enough skill and patience.

Centurion Rex

Centurion Rex

Centurion Rex is a strategy game set in an alternate history where the Meditterean region is ruled by a Roman-dinosaur-led republic. Few dare to oppose the hegemony of the reptilian republic. One such force is Shark Shogunate - a militaristic dictatorship from the Far East.

You can take control of either republican or shark forces and lead them to victory through superior leadership and tactics.

Scrapshoot

Scrapshoot

Scrapshoot is the true definition of a party game. While the AI is fun to battle against the game becomes a blast when you get your friends involved. I think this is the kind of game you hop on occasionally and end up sinking hours of fun into it. Super easy to learn, a variety of hat options, and the unique match modifiers offer a lot in variation of gameplay from round to round.

Don’t let this game go under your radar! I’d give it 9 scraps out of 10; super excited to see what the devs whip up in future updates!

Starlight: Defence Command

Starlight: Defence Command

This is such an addictive tower defence game with some features I’ve never seen for this genre of game before. I was invited to be an alpha tester on this game. It’s got an 80’s Tron vibe for me, but with some epic music and sound effects. Very configurable towers, and more interest that a kind of repetitive TD app game, with proper missions rather than just the same level over and over.

One of my favourite aspects is that the levels have a kind of “fixed” duration (if you make it to the end of the level that is..) I like this because I’m one of those people who is motivated through my procrastination by playing games …okay I’ll just play Level 1 for 20 minutes…then laundry for 20 minutes…level 1 again…then something else I need to do in the real world. This really suits my preferred playing style for a game.

Real player with 44.0 hrs in game

This is a more cerebral TD game in a genre that leans towards kuwaii aesthetics. Tower customization is probably the most detailed I have seen and it is pretty satisfying when you dial in an effective tower strategy. There is leveling up, so it is worth replaying early maps and it gives you a chance to try alternate methods. The story is interesting and told in text and can be ignored if you don’t care about it.

Developer responded to a minor issue I noticed within 24 hours. Definitely worth trying out if you like TD.

TRIBAL

TRIBAL

TRIBAL is a Persistent Online Multiplayer Real Time 2D Strategy game where you take the role of Tribe Chieftain and lead your medieval tribe to global domination… or not. Chieftains are very busy, but the fight for survival and conquest go on with or without you. Prepare your Tribe for greatness even when you must be away on important business. With 8 different player avatars, 100 unique NPC units, 60 spells, 75 different structures, 12 boss encounters, and various inventions and upgrades you are sure to find a retreat whether playing alone, with friends, or against the global community of tribes on public and semi-public servers. Build your Tribe. Conquer, be conquered. Repeat.

What do you mean persistent?

TRIBAL never sleeps, even when you do. Your tribe will continue to work around the clock until you return. It is up to you to ensure they have marching orders while you are away. But peace and happiness are fleeting. There are Dark Lords and other players that might have their own motivations to achieve greatness.

Do you have to play online?

TRIBAL is an online game. It requires an instance of the TRIBAL server and the TRIBAL client. You are free to run your own local network server or a private server to play alone or with family and friends. Setup is easy and there are no additional costs or requirements for standing up your own server to play. Optionally, you can log into one of the community servers and play with other tribes all over the world.

Isn’t it boring to play alone?

TRIBAL is more fun with other people, but even if you decide to journey alone on a private server the Dark Lords will always be working together to overthrow your tribe. The Dark Lords are always waiting. They will continue building, spawning, and progressing as long as you keep a server running. Of course, you can always shut down the server – even Dark Lords sleep when the universe shuts down.

Is it an RPG or an RTS?

TRIBAL is an RTS, but also has various elements from the role-playing genre. TRIBAL is a real-time strategy game where you and your tribe earn experience and resources by developing land, creating new tribe members, and fighting off the Dark Lords and other tribes. Tribe members can teach each other new things or earn them by defeating the bosses at the 12 Gates or conquering other tribes. The higher the level of each tribe member – the more powerful they become.

If TRIBAL never sleeps, how do new players on public servers stand a chance?

Every player has a home base… although space is limited new players can build up a tribe without the threat of attack. If you or your tribe is at their home base you are safe. Once you are ready – you can venture out into the global village. Once you are away from home, you are vulnerable to attack. If you are defeated, you will be returned to your home base and retain your experience, spells, blueprints, and inventions… but all of your tribe members and improvements will parish. Time to rebuild your tribe!

Is it Micro or Macro?

TRIBAL offers a variety of ways to manage your empire including Micromanagement, Macromanagement, and Hands-free. You can micromanage every tribe member if you chose giving each one specific orders and duties. As you spawn new minions, they will also perform some duties by default according to their role allowing you to focus on more immediate objectives. Finally, each unit can also be set for automation. When automated, units will be controlled by the AI system and carry out their duties according to a set of priorities to ensure their development and growth.

So what’s the goal?

Build your tribe. Conquer new lands. Enlighten your people. Get rich. Rejoice. Rule the world with an iron fist or gentle hand. Rush, turtle, explore, idle… the choice is yours. Defeat the bosses at the 12 Gates to gain access to new maps and higher levels. Help other tribes or crush them. Play alone or with the masses. But ultimately the goal is simple, survive and prosper.
