The 80s Never Felt So Good!

(a review copy of this game was provided. Check out my full review on GeektoGeekMedia)

What a fun ride! I want to hurry and finish the review so I can play more! Mayhem in Single Valley is a polished, sharp, fun little adventure game that hits ya like a catchy 80s pop song; you can’t get it out of your head!

Jack Johnson (no relation) is about to fly to the city to attend art school–a wonderful opportunity and chance to escape the dead-end lifestyle of his not-so-well-to-do family. All that remains is a couple of chores and…what’s this? Mysterious shadow entities dumping toxic waste into the town’s water supply? Oh, dear! Well, what’s a helpful/mischievous lad in a red-hooded sweatshirt supposed to do but grab some trashcan lids and fight mutant forest animals!?

Best Month Ever!

Best Month Ever!

Best Month Ever is a modern point-and-click story-driven adventure of Louise and her son Mitch. Life is hard for Louise as a single mom, struggling to make ends meet. But things can always get worse, and after being diagnosed with a terminal illness that leaves her with one month to live, the clock is ticking for her to raise her son. But how do you explain that to an 8-year old kid? Mitch is picking up things fast - like a duckling, he observes his mother and imitates her behavior - but time is running out and Louise has to think carefully about making the right decisions and setting a good example for Mitch to follow. Together, they hit the road to take back the time that was stolen from them and live a lifetime as mother and son in 4 short weeks…

This intense family trip takes place during a groovy 60s era. Mother and son are thrown into both dangerous and funny situations, all of which impact their relationship and future. Their intimate tale plays out against the backdrop of a United States torn apart by political tensions and divided by brutal social inequality.

You will learn about the facts and decisions from the past in flashbacks and through memories of the grown-up Mitch - the narration constantly switches between the “past” (the 60s) and the “present” (the 70s). Finally, we jump back in time to decide what choices Louise made and how they affected the future of the two. Players’ decisions will also help shape a unique image of her as to what kind of person she was.

  • Decisions REALLY matter! To keep track of Mitch’s growth as a person, each choice you make adds positive or negative influence to three statistics: Righteousness, Confidence, and Relations. As a result, this changes your story on the go, which makes each player’s experience feel unique.

  • Mother & Son relationship - Not only will their individual fates be subject to change, but also their mutual relationship. Best Month Ever is above all else the story of the touching, challenging and unique bond that can only exist between a mother and son.

  • Different Outcomes - Turn on, tune in, drop out… and decide! Different choices result in different endings of the game. It is up to the player to decide what kind of person Mitch will become and what exactly happened during his memorable journey through the USA with his mother.

  • Weird 60s trip - What a time to travel it was! Canned Heat was singing about “Going Up the Country” while Bob Dylan asked “How does it feel” to have no home and live on the street. Louise and Mitch travel across the country, meeting bikers, hippies, Klansmen, Native Americans, and far-out wanderers of all sorts.

  • No losers here! - Don’t be a square, you can’t ‘lose’ in Best Month Ever! Your decision will shape Mitch as an adult person. He may of course get some kicks on the way, but hey, the story will still be unique and rewarding! Can you dig it?

Updated English version for my dude:)

It happened one year before Shan Gui.

This work introduces the warm daily life of Hejia, and Jiayun who’d become the four sister of the He family. The scenery in Nanjing is as awesome as ever.

Six main options, three branches, the farewell of Jia Yun, the fantasy world of He Jia, the deep love of Yang Qin.

All the plots are about the embarrassment of the Jiayun diary. At the beginning, the news of the death of Jia Yun was revealed. After three routes, the peaks and turns, this is actually a warm story tells friendship and family-ship between the girls.

Creepslore

Creepslore

Welcome to the world of CREEPSLORE, where text shown in all caps means someone is SHOUTING!

Take part in a surreal, interactive arthouse adventure inspired by older Adventure Games mixed with Choose Your Own Adventure books and RPGs. Supported by it’s massive list of (112+!) characters, heartfelt story, and uniquely weird art style, Creepslore is here to make you laugh, cry, and question it’s creators' sanity and overall well being.

The game takes place sometime during the 1970’s, and is told from the point of view of a sarcastic character who gets suckered into an adventure after arriving on a monster filled island. Realizing there’s no way back, he now has to deal with a bunch of intoxicated creatures with idiosyncratic tendencies (ergo: they’re also stupid) who think humans are the de-facto best gourmet food option.

What this game offers:

  • surreal & tongue in cheek humor

  • a story with 5 completely different scenarios (no forced repeats of dialogues to unlock ‘extra’ content!)

  • 18 explorable locations, ranging from cities to swamps

  • more than 110 individual characters

  • pre-rendered backgrounds created in Quake

  • even MORE NUMBERS to grab your attention

  • text, text and some more text

  • a sad fish

What this game DOESN’T offer:

  • saving the world

  • cute anime girls

  • fan-service

  • a happy fish

PS: if you’ve ever wondered why the Giant Spider in Skyrim carries coins, and where the hell it puts them, we’ll, let’s just say we have the answer to that.

Pro tip: don’t be cheeky like me and remap the blue keys to left hand and red keys to right hand, forcing yourself to reset to default and relearn your entire muscle memory the instant linked notes appear.

The default key layout may look weird but it’s designed that way for a reason (that I failed to understand and then paid the price for).

Quiet Valley

Quiet Valley

A trippy horror title with a unique aesthetic that tells the story of a school tragedy.

First and foremost, I would caution against anyone with motion sickness issues getting this title, as the environment constantly shifts around in very wibbly-wobbly ways as you move. You can watch the trailer to get more of a sense of what I’m talking about.

This is not an action-packed game where you have to constantly worry about sprinting away from some sort of monstrosity, but rather, the focus is on exploration, puzzle-solving, story-telling, and atmosphere.

Half Past Fate: Romantic Distancing

Half Past Fate: Romantic Distancing

Got this game with a small rebate (about 4$ US) ,i loved the subject, with everything going on right now,i decide to give it a shot.I find in easy to relate to Stephen(one of the caracter),also the SNES feel is great, music is nice…remind me of sone NES and SNES music, that bring’s a lot of memories. It’s not a dating sim per say,it’s more like a story driven game.

This game definitly deserve more attention. If you love story driven games, this is a nice 4 bucks who make you forget your miserable empty life like mine…The only downside,it’s pretty short(just over 90 minutes) and there’s not much of a replay value

Played this after the first Half Past Fate game and caught me off guard how short it is compared the first one. That aside, this spin-off features the same gorgeous art style, good writing, and down to earth and relatable characters. I recommend it if you’ve finished HPF and want to explore some other aspects of the world and get to know more characters.

Also, we never learned what our resident himbo’s occupation is :( ..

Hollow Bliss

Hollow Bliss

Your experience in Hollow Bliss depends on your choices, deaths, and consequences. Take control of five high school friends who end up trapped within a dark home, its twisted residents out to get them. As you explore the house, the space changes around you, and how you interact with it and respond to its dangers will make an impact on your chances to make it out alive. Everyone can die, but more than that, the imprint they leave can either benefit or hurt the chances of the others also trying to survive. You’re in a horror scenario, it’s up to you to make your choices of how to get out of the situations you find yourself in.

After the death of his childhood best friend, Chris Lansan struggles to feel normal with his friends, old and new. There was a comic he and his deceased friend were working on before her unfortunate passing, but it was in her possession when she died. He goes with his group of friends; Dustin, Julia, Hailey, and Sarah, to ask his mother if he could take the comic as a memento. After strange hostility from the mother towards Chris, seeing how important this is to Chris, Dustin proposes they sneak in when the mother goes out to find and fetch the comic. When they do so however, they find themselves trapped within the home, and unfortunately not alone.

Hollow Bliss is a gut wrenching 2.5D horror narrative game experience that plays out differently depending on you.

FEATURES

  • You’re in control of a horror scenario, who lives and dies depends entirely on you.

  • 32 endings, with various alternate ways every scene in the game can play out.

  • Every character has a unique ability, which if they die, is lost to you.

  • The game remembers previous runs, the past may come back to haunt you.

  • Twisted and strange horrors that’ll leave you guessing and what could possibly come next.

  • An original soundtrack and positional 3D audio adds to a thick atmosphere, best experienced with headphones..

  • A cast of characters who have more to them than you may initially assume. They may win you over.

Pulling down the moon would be easier.
