The greatest writers of all time are fighting each other in the arenas that were inspired by their work. Each character can summon his own “magic” arena where he becomes the boss of the level for a short amount of time. Each character can be knocked out with one hit in standing in “danger” zone. Once the “magic” arena is summoned by one of the 15 combatants - the fighting game becomes an arcade while the “boss” player is trying to defeat the opponent before the magic arena time runs out.

Included game modes:

  • 2x Speed mode - a good way to train superhuman reaction

  • Prophet mode - turns the game into a turn-based strategy in a way. Both players blindly enter the string of commands without knowing the commands of the opponent. Once the required number of commands is entered both characters start executing them.

  • Retro mode - Pixelated graphics, old but gold.

  • I know Kung Foo - AI game mode where the AI is trying really hard to loose to you making it look as cool as possible.

Hecatomb

Hecatomb

In a world where cultists desperately need to be shot…

What, Were You Expecting A story?

Oh, Alright.

You are checks notes Gary, an unassuming nobody with no backstory, personality or, for the moment, voice, who got kidnapped by an evil cult aiming to summon their god into this reality. You are the final sacrifice. And you’re having none of it. You break out of your cell, and kill literally everybody so the cult cannot summon the great evil they worship.

#### A Window Into The 90s

3D enemies? 3D weapons? No. The enemies, the weapons, most of the props are all 2D sprites. What 3D models there are are crude and low-poly. Texture resolutions are abominable. I even wrote a special shader that lowers the apparent colour depth.

Commitment to the 90s aesthetic is near absolute: The sole exception is that the weapon viewsprites are normal mapped, which is anachronistic but looks so good.

#### Boom, Pew, Bang

Shoot all the bad guys! Or hit them! Or kerplode them!

Defeat your foes with these bog-standard FPS weapons:

  • Carpenter’s Hammer

  • Pistol

  • Submachine Gun

  • Shotgun

  • Hand Grenade

  • Fire Staff

  • Staker

  • Rocket Launcher

(Note: List subject to change as I see fit.)

#### Reinventing the Wheel

Unity? UE? Build?

No.

That would be easy.

Hecatomb is coded entirely in GameMaker. I had to do everything 3D myself. Among the things I had to figure out are:

  • Drawing walls and ceilings without tanking performance

  • How sprite-based enemies move

  • Shaders to restrict the colour palette

  • A normal mapping shader for the weapon viewsprites

  • How to calculate the position of bullet holes in a wall (it uses the tangent!)

  • How to bake lighting into the map

  • How mouselook works (Note: vertical mouse look is implemented, but disabled.)

  • And many more that cropped up over the months but I can’t think of right now.

Malicious Mages

Malicious Mages

Malicious Mages is a capture the flag brawler – Choose from a various cast of magic users and battle it out against other players to capture the mysterious blue orb.

Everyone is after this glowing blue orb. Fight other players to grab the orb and bring it to your side of the level to win. Once you get it there, you have to place the orb down and protect it for ten seconds until you score.

What’s the gameplay like?

You play the game locally against other players, the levels are completely symmetrical and you have to move across the side-scrolling stage traveling from room to room until you reach your goal. 3D characters in a 2D plane

Each player has a very low health bar. It doesn’t take many hits to kill a player, killing them is just a way to quickly get them out of your way so you can keep moving to your goal. After you kill them, they respawn quickly ahead of you in your path.

The Side-Scrolling Camera tracks the player that currently has the orb. If you go off-screen, you will disappear and then respawn ahead of the running player’s path.

The level is broken down into different rooms. Once the running player with the orb goes into another room, the screen fades and the opposing player despawns and respawns in the next room.

Each player can cast powerful spells. Spells are considered specials, once you’ve gathered enough mana from breaking props in the level you can use them to give yourself an advantage or deal a terrible blow.

Base attacks are free. Players have a catalog of free combat actions they can do to attack the other player without needing mana

What’s the story about?

In modern times, a cast of magic users fight to gain control over a mysterious blue orb.

If they have control over the orb during a special alignment, they can use the orb to summon The Painter a god that painted the night sky. The Painter will then grant them very dangerous power. All of these mages have their own compelling reasons to gain control, who will come out on top?

NRG

NRG

NRG is an indie platform PVP action game, done a bit different.

Energy management is key, and keeping a constant eye on incoming bullets, hang of walls, and parkour about.

It’s ideally played with controller, and the movements feel pretty smooth.

Plenty of pewpews, bright colors, and free is always nice!

This game is quick to pick up. Great for casual play. The devs are enjoyable people. They are definitely not shy people. They are full of life and ambitions for this game. This game brings a new perspective to 3D platforming. I hope this game lifts off.

The soundtrack is alright, having it on loop in my ear for 5 hours. I do wish there were more sfx to the finishers. But i can understand why not due to copyright issues and etc.

The graphics are simplistic and adorable. Which are contradictory to their actions. 🤣 With limited maps so far, be prepared to watch the same scenery spin around your computer screen. The UI is rough to the eye, but the dev team does have some ideas on it in the future.

Take your blimp, go up there, and start blastin’ before it really balloons into an all-out war!

You won’t fight alone. Our engineers will follow your blimp force into the clouds, to establish a bridgehead against the drone menace and protect the ecosystem of our floating legacy.

The enemy will not stand, er, float idly by. These islands carry a wealth of resources that will supercharge the enemy drone production. We can’t let that happen!

  • Defend your mining operations with turrets, lots and lots of turrets.

  • Gather uridium from the wreckage to bolster the bridgehead and expand it.

  • Defend the islands and ensure precious duraphyte does not wind up in enemy hands. Tentacles. Appendages? They have tentacles btw.

Once your team’s blimps are bristling with lethal weapons, take the fight to the enemy. Destroy them all and let the scrappers sort them out!

  • Upgrade your blimp and put the fear of blue-screens in those dastardly drones.

  • Push back the enemy with your team back to their base where they belong.

Tiny Strife

Tiny Strife

I have no idea why the game has no reviews… but now it will! First of: it is adorable! I like the cute design of everything. Also, it is turn based. So turn-based party RPG (I mean it says it above). You start with one character, but the higher you go: the more you unlock.

The game is… luck based. I lost on the first or second battle my first time around. Then when I showed my friend how bad I was at it: I completed 1-1 area! Afterwards I tried to lose, because if you do - there is a score that updates and you get new skills… so I actually won Chapter 1… Go figure!
