CARSTEROIDS
One of those true hidden gems on Steam, which absolutely deserves more attention.

Update: The developer has updated to game to address some of my concerns. That is very cool. ‘Easy Mode’ has been added, which is still very hard.
RE: Unapproachable Controls: Slight turns are now possible, and a fun drifting mechanic has been implemented. This is a big help.
RE: Powerups and road hazards look similar. Helpful icons have been added over power ups that help differentiate them from hazaards.
RE: Death walls. The walls of the arena electrocute you, and cause damage to your car. A front end collision with a wall is basically a death sentence. This is still a frustrating way to end a match.

Carmageddon 2: Carpocalypse Now
Intro
Loved this game for ages, but the flaws are evident and have really stopped me from enjoying it as much lately. It’s unique and you’re not going to get a similar experience from many other games. If it weren’t for the gameplay flaws,
this game would be my second favourite Carmageddon, but they’re just too big to miss.
The Great:
++Destruction looks amazing. It’s as good as Max Damage.
++Base gameplay is so much fun. Like the first game, except improved in every single way (except where it didn’t)

This game is the most epically entertaining way to waste your readily rather spent hours of a short life. What makes this game good then:
- Still pretty nice damage physics. Seriously. Game is nearly two decades old yet has dynamic deformation of cars, no premodeled damage. You can even split vehicles in half, at any angle..and yet even keep driving depending on how you got split. It’s also cool how your driving is handicapped by getting damage. If your engine takes damage, car accelerates slower. If powertrain takes damage, your car will start braking randomly inadvertently. If your wheels get damage, they’ll wobble and make your car lean constantly to the given side when driving and steering will become harder. If suspension takes damage, your car will steer randomly on it’s own.

Rock n' Rush: Battle Racing
This is a simple racing/shooting hybrid based on classic games like Atari’s Badlands (arcade) and Super NES games RPM Racing (Radical Psycho Machines), Rock ‘N’ Roll Racing and, more recently, Death Rally that’s about finishing first while blowing up other racers.
There really isn’t too much content yet (only 4 tracks with some variations and 4 playable vehicles at the start) but it’s fun and-in single player mode-challenging, but it’s much more fun if you’ve got friends to play with. Not the kiddies though, as there is some NSFW language (occasional F-bombs). It looks good with a nice metal soundtrack and controls are surprisingly realistic, you can’t just go all out around corners or you might roll over, let alone go off track.

Carmageddon Max Pack
Carmageddon is an amazing, unique game and one of my all-time favourites. For that alone, I have to recommend it. That being said, the version being offered here is frankly quite terrible.
You get to choose between software mode and 3dfx mode. Software mode is visually outdated even by 1997 standards, so most people will play the 3dfx version. Both options run in DOSBox - and while I think there are good DOSBox ports out there, this is not one of them. The menus and cinematics tend to be completely broken. With some config modifications, you can get the 3dfx version to run in a decent resolution (and without stretching) and improve the terrible sprite pop-in, but I’ve been unable to fix the framerate in any way - and it is awful. These are “only” technical issues, but they’re serious enough that I can’t honestly recommend playing this specific version of the game.

Intro
The original Carmageddon is nothing short of a blast to play. However, the Steam port is absolute dogshit. The game only runs with DOSBox and if you choose to play with NGlide, no matter the resolution or graphical detail, you will
not be getting a solid 60fps with drops down to even 20fps regularly. I have a GTX1060 and an i5 4460 and it doesn’t matter. It runs like trash. I would only recommend this on Steam if you don’t mind very low framerates or don’t
care about using DOSBox. It’s unfortunate that Stainless hasn’t decided to update the compatibility because if they did I could easily wholeheartedly recommend this fantastic game.

Brawler
A classic-style beat em up made by a small team. Impressive! I enjoyed the three heroes and great variety of enemies. They looked realistic; almost like digitized actors. The music was catchy, and stages were fun. The cutscenes with the reporter, hero, and the ending were a nice touch. I felt it could use voices for landing hits, continue, difficulty setting, and maybe free lives, But well done on this indie game.

Death Rally (Classic)
If you haven’t tried Death Rally Classic, you do not know what you are missing. I originally owned this game on a cd before getting the system I have now. I will add this warning. This game won’t play on the El Capitan of Mac Os X software, the closest it comes is Yosemite.
The game runs a lot smoother than it ever did on my Cd and it’s great to relive a classic. Plus there’s an added bonus for all you Duke Nukem fans. He’s one of the selectable drivers in this game and comes with his classic “Hail to the king, baby” lines when he comes in first.

Haven’t played this for damn near twenty years, so it was a pleasant surprise to find it on Steam; for free no less! Iirc, my parent’s crap Gateway had this as demoware, so I could only play a few rounds. Even so, I enjoyed the occasional break from Full Tilt.
Reading through the first several negative reviews, it’s clear a lot of players didn’t didn’t get past the learning curve. This is a game from the 90’s, so go ahead and set the bar accordingly. Here are a few tips to help you enjoy this little morsel from the past:

Brigador: Up-Armored Edition
There’s a reason I’ve logged 200+ hours in this game in under 2 months. It’s fun as hell and offers incredible amounts of replay value and gameplay depth. There is an absolutely enormous amount of content, and everything is packed with detail.
The basic idea of the game is to pick a vehicle, a primary and secondary weapon, and then a special defensive weapon/feature, and go to town. You’re getting paid based on how much destruction you dish out by a cold, calculating megacorp, the SNC, that has only one goal: conquest of Solo Nobre, a massive walled city where the game takes place. You must secure the city district-by-district via whatever means necessary, even if that means completely leveling the entire map (which is totally doable, and even encouraged!).

Brigador is, on the surface, an isometric twin stick shooter where you choose a difficulty, vehicle, two weapons, a special ability, and a pack of levels to fight through. But what makes it so much more than just that is the flavortext. No, that’s not a joke. Every single map, Pilot, weapon, lore concept, and vehicle, including the non playable ones have a full paragraph or more written about its special quirks, how it came into service, crew oppinion, and other such things.
The setting is a genuinely interesting one. Yes the 80s synthwave meme is a bit overplayed these days, but it works out in a way that doesn’t feel forced in brigador. Cassette tapes and CRT moniters work along side crainial jacks in this dystopian North Korea meets Rio Brazil in an An-Cap universe and it just kinda works.

Subwar 2050
The year is 2050. The ocean is the next frontier and war inevitably reaches the depths of the sea. As an independent mercenary working for a corporate conglomerate, you pilot the latest fighter subs to protect the corporation’s interests in exchange for cold hard cash. With 5 different theaters of operations (of varying difficulty) and an interesting mix of aerial-style submarine tactics, you’ll be fighting fierce battles for corporate territory beneath the waves.
The Plot Deepens is an expansion disk for Subwar 2050. It features a few new subs and weapons across three new campaigns: the Bermuda Triangle, the Mediterranean and The North Cape. In each of these campaigns, you’ll launch your attack sub from its home carrier to protect the interests of multinational corporations engaged in mining, research, and development under the sea.
-
Includes the original Subwar 2050 and its expansion, The Plot Deepens.
-
Pilot four types of submarine including deep-sea exploration vessels, reconnaissance subs, and highly maneuverable fighter submarines.
-
Explore thousands of square miles of accurately mapped 3d underwater seascapes in four different multi-mission campaigns: the Antarctic Ocean, the North Atlantic, the South China Sea, and the Sea of Japan.
-
‘Simulated Combat’ mode lets you master maneuvers such as Knuckles and Deep Dives before entering a mission.
The Henchmen
The Game
The Henchmen is a pulp-inspired, 90s fueled top-down, action retro open-world game. Set in the fictional city of New Queens, The Henchmen blends classic PS1-era games experiences, such as Driver and the first Grand Theft Auto with a modern approach, producing a unique experience.
The game is also designed from the ground up to be a co-operative experience, as the game can be played both in single-player and local 2 players co-op (both shared screen and split-screen), with story elements and missions changing depending on the number of players.
The Story
During the late sixties, the Castellano Mafia family had complete control over the City of New Queens: They Controlled the guns, drugs, and sex workers that roamed the streets.
This started to change, however, as the Homura Yakuza Syndicate started to chip away at The Castellano empire in the late 1970.
Anthony, the new leader of the family, is forced to rely on his henchmen to get back what was his, starting a bloody gang war in the streets of New Queens.
The game is set in two time periods: In the 1970s you play as Rachel, a young single mother who wants to quit the gangster life for the sake of her daughter, while also being both Castellano’s best gun and lover.
In the 1990s, you deal with the aftermath of the gang wars, as you take control of Samuel, an ex-army man who left his job to help his brother Jamal who owes money to the wrong kind of people.
What we’re planning:
-8 to 10 hours long main campaign
-Entire game playable in both singleplayer and local two players co-op
-Original Soundtrack and cutscene artwork
-Explore the city in its two time periods: A snowy 1970s rendition and a hot, more modern 1990s version.
-Indoor and outdoor fights, with both melee weapons and firearms
