Damn Dolls

Damn Dolls

bought this game specifically so I could laugh at it, it has that sort of charm that you get from movies like The Room (or anything made by Neil Breen.) WAY too graphically demanding, however, and there’s tons of problems with enemy AI and lighting, but it’s laughably playable. Overall solid work.

I don’t like when I have to restart a game and do everything again and again but make sure I remember every detail…HOWEVER…this game in particular has an art form to it in which I appreciate. There is a certain hype element and excitement from getting a bit further every game play and mastering the completion of the game. It’s spooky, it’s odd, it’s interesting, it’s fun…I like it!

Wasting Away

An atmospheric horror game with semi-open world. You can really feel the atmosphere of loneliness. The further the better, but everything is ruined by a strange and unbalanced fight with the final boss.

Still recomended.

A short but thoroughly enjoyable indie storytelling experience!

I wasn’t sure I’d get through it in one sitting, but I found the ambiance very compelling and surprisingly tasteful in all its lighting and sound effects, so I couldn’t stop until the end. Overall, the writing does a great job at introducing what ended up being a rather intriguing story, so it was easy to follow along even without any voice acting.

Very promising. Looking forward for future titles from these devs!

The ambience of this game is through the roof!

Sound quality is good, it really sells you the mystery and the thriller inducing chills imo.

Now i will be describing some of the good and some of the problems and i don’t want to spoil things so play the game 1st then read the next part.

! Some pros:

! * I already told this but the ambience this game delivers is really good from the sound quality and overall gloomy and dark atmosphere really gives this game a boost.* I love detective/mystery games and if there’s a slight thriller/horror vibe to it i love it even more (e.g of games i love detective wise (sam and max, monkey island, the sinking city, wolf among us, the long reach, the last door series, disco elisium etc)).

Review by Gaming Masterpieces - The greatest games of all time on Steam.

|

Is this game a masterpiece? Yes. And quite a strange one.

You play a young boy in the 80s, who is sucked into his computer after playing a simple action game for the whole day. You have been summoned by the priests of the Digital Kingdom, a kingdom in the digital realm inhabited by thousands of programs and threatened by HIM. It is a world with quite a few similarities to the world of Disney’s Tron. HIM is an evil program, who sends his minions to enslave the whole Digital Kingdom. Noone is able to fight the minions of HIM, only you, Narita Boy, the wielder of the Techno-Sword, can kill them.

Intro

Narita Boy tries to emulate the look of retro games while combining modern elements at the same time. It is a platformer game that will make you think as if you are playing a retro game while not playing it, with combat and puzzle as its focus.

Pros:

  • Bosses with different attack patterns

Tex Murphy: Mean Streets

Tex Murphy: Mean Streets

Mean Streets is an open world game set in the far off future of 2033 complete with flying cars that have wireless fax machines, imagine that! You take on the role of detective Tex Murphy to solve the mysterious death of a University professor. Next time you see that someone wants a GTA style open world game, tip your fedora, saying you want a real open world game Tex Murphy style. This is vintage gaming at its best, the game comes with a manual, where the manual for the first time ever in the history of me gaming on steam is required.

That game was made before I was born and yet it still entertain me. It’s amazing how much fun can be packed in that 30MB. I must admit that graphics hurts my eyes comparing to modern games but this game really makes up for that with gameplay.

Lots of locations which You can visit in open-world manner, roaming West Coast in a flight simulator. Every location come with map to search for clues and evidence or memorable and distinctive character. Some of them will cooperate. And some won’t.

Also, I’ve really liked that I had to write my questions. Nothing was given to me on the silver plate. It gives lots of satisfaction when all of the clues start to make sense. And if You find Yourself stuck, after looking everywhere and asking everyone (and believe me, You are wrong if You think so) You may always ask Your informator. For a price of course.

The Occupation

The Occupation

This game can be a really great experience and I highly recommend it, with just one big caveat.

You basically get the snoop around as a detective in some very well-crafted environments with lots of details, where it’s actually quite a challenge to figure out what’s going on and find what you are looking for, adding to the fact that you have limited time really works well to give you the sense of realism that is lacking in so many stealth games - and this is where the game excels. It’s also quite an interesting storyline with some interesting characters and interactions.

Real player with 19.2 hrs in game

I wish I could give this game a positive review, but… I can’t. Other reviews go into a fair amount of depth about the technical issues, so I won’t discuss them here – I, personally, only ran into a single bug (other actors walking through gates that wipe floppy disks causing a floppy disk in my inventory to wipe, which the developers have plans to fix), but that’s not my issue with this game.

The reason for my negative review is that this game tries very hard to tell a story, but the gameplay mechanics undermine the story at every turn. You play the role of an investigative reporter who, for unknown reasons, has decided (been assigned?) to investigate a bombing (kinda?) at a local, high profile, technology firm. For some reason, you start with no knowledge at all of what this firm does – initial impressions are that they are a PR firm advocating for the passage of “The Union Act”, but later revelations reveal that this is incorrect (I think?). One would think that this sort of background information would be easily accessible (perhaps in the handy briefcase), but…

Death by Refund

STORY

After having accidentally glued two guns to his hands, private detective Frederick Ugarte is visited by a mysterious woman. She hires him to retreive some jewels from her abusive ex-husband. Sadly things don’t go exactly as planned for Ugarte. Is this due to his incompetence or is he being set up?

THE GAME

In this minimalist 2D hard-boiled detective shooter you won’t be distracted by overly complicated upgrade systems, there’s no useless skill points or skill trees, there’s not a gazillion different guns that are basically reskins of one and the same gun, it’s just you and your guns and you shoot and shoot and talk and shoot and shoot and shoot and talk and

Death by Refund on Steam

Déjà Vu: MacVenture Series

Déjà Vu: MacVenture Series

A very limited and simple quasi-real life simulator that has troll gameplay which makes you die unpredictably just because the game wanted you to die because of a particular choice you made, so, while playing this game, make your peace with death and prepare to die, LOL. At least the game has a great sense of witty, sarcastic and dark humour and a sense of showing the rope about life 101 to help players free from their own naivety and ignorance.

It’s very admirable that, as an adventure game, players ain’t tasked with most of the adventure games' usual boring errand-runner tasks that require them to solve a moon logic puzzle. What this game mostly ask from you is finding a key to open particular doors. As simple as it may sounds, the actual complexity of the game is figuring out who you are, what happened to you, where to go and how you can make things right for you.

Real player with 8.6 hrs in game

Deja Vu was the first of the MacVenture entries that was released in 1985. It places you in the role of Ace Harding, a retired boxer now detective gumshoe set in the 1940s.The only problem is, you’ve woken up in a bathroom stall and worst of all - you don’t remember a single thing of who you are!

This leaves you in the challenging role to solve the problem before you become a vegetable. That’s not the only worry because it just so happens that a band of criminals have framed you for a murder and a kidnapping. This is requiring you, the player, to think out of the box and think like a detective to help Ace.
