Timothy Leary’s Mind Mirror

Timothy Leary’s Mind Mirror

I absolutely recommend anyone with even a slight interest in psychotherapy to try this game out, not because it’ll blow your mind or because Leary was some kind of genius, but because it’s a solid example of what I believe to be a therapy-oriented game.

Somewhere between interactive fiction and gestalt therapy (not mention the weird words and “archetypes”), this program is for all I have read basically a reproduction of Leary’s PhD thesis. It might well have been a facebook quiz if it was written two decades later! It’s not particularly avant-garde or exceptionally brilliant as far as I’m concerned, but it’s neat to play through.

Saturday Morning RPG

Saturday Morning RPG

I love Saturday Morning RPG. It’s so bad.

Remember the eighties?

Remember sitting in front of your TV on Saturday morning, soaking up the cartoon goodness?

How it was all ridiculously over-the-top and crazy, but somehow, at the end of every half an hour episode, everything worked out?

Well, if you remember those days fondly, you’ll find a lot to love in Saturday Morning RPG.

The trouble is, you’ll also find less fun things there, too.

Memory can be a fickle thing.

So, What Is Saturday Morning RPG?

Real player with 42.4 hrs in game

I find it a shame and astonishing that a game as good as Saturday Morning RPG has not done better commercially. The game has some crazy achievements, such as fighitng 1,000 and even up to 5,000 battles, based on an initial idea of 20 episodes. Since it didn’t do well, they had to limit their ambitions to six episodes, hopefully with a fine tuning of the achievements in the future.

But why is all this necessary? The game has everyone a gamer would be looking for. A series of episodes with a simple story, with tons of nostalgic references for one thing. I mean the main character is a guy named Marty, who rides a hoverboard, and gets his powers from a mysterious man known as The Wizard. The retro graphics are a joy to behold, the music is killer, and the gameplay is a very solid Paper Mario/Super Mario RPG type of thing, with button presses for better defense and better attacks.

The Phantom Fellows

The Phantom Fellows

Oliver Cobblestone can communicate with a dead- not the dead, but rather one Englebert Picklebender. Together they investigate the paranormal to bring peace to occupant spirits and haunted hosts alike.

Share laughs with the living and deceased in this point-and-click comedy adventure while attending to specters who haunt your clientele. Use Oliver’s incredible ability to, um, be alive, and Englebert’s capacity for the incorporeal to fulfill agreements with the respiratorily challenged. Oh! but the breather paying you will need physical proof you’ve done anything at all, and how will you get something out of nothing? Call your closest pal, take your deepest breath, and stumble headlong into the unknown on a personal journey of social entanglement and brotherhood beyond the veil.

As you pass a week with the Phantom Fellows, you’ll encounter many spirits. Some yearn to be reunited with a possession, others wish to commence their eternal repose, and of course a few simply enjoy a good haunting. Between spooks you’ll also meet many warm-bodied breathers (for better or worse), and all the while a shadowy, malicious spirit will lurk near Oliver for a dearly personal reason.

  • Hand-drawn pixel art and animations

  • Completely interactive- take control of the characters!

  • Switch between Oliver and Englebert! Sometimes being dead has its perks. Maybe.

  • Play through eight days, explore each new location, negotiate with ghosts, sweet talk the living, and perform slapdash acts of tomfoolery!

  • Revisit locations from previous days any time after Day 3 and discover more answers! or questions?

  • Some puzzles have alternate solutions as the ending has an alternate of its own

Please Note The demo does not feature a soundtrack. We decided to best serve the game itself, a score will be written for it in its entirety. So instead of putting placeholder music in the demo we decided to just kindly suggest you put on some of your favorite tunes, get comfortable and enjoy The Phantom Fellows demo!

Unusual Findings

Unusual Findings

It’s the 80s and the Christmas is coming, Vinny, Nick and Tony are young and their new cable signal descrambler just arrived. That same night while trying to decrypt a pay per view adult channel, they pick up the distress signal of an alien spaceship crash-landing in the woods near their town… Things only get weirder as they realize that the towering alien is killing very specific members of their community!

Explore the world oozing with nostalgia, check the Video Buster Store for clues, challenge other kids at the Laser Llamas Arcades, go learn a new trick at The Emerald Sword comic store, try to get along with the punk looking Lost Boys at their hideout or even dare to ask THE BULL, the quintessential 80s Action hero, for some help!

Follow the story that pays tribute to 80s classics like The Goonies, The Explorers, Monster Squad, The Lost Boys, They Live, Terminator, and Aliens among others and a gameplay that combines mechanics of Point and Clicks masterpieces like Full Throttle with its own unique twist and more.

Your decisions do matter, and the way you make these three friends interact with each other increasingly affects their friendship and the whole story, changing the way they solve the game puzzles, the locations they visit, the answers they find, the story, everything.

Uncover the truth hidden behind the alien invasion… well sort of. Why here? Why is it killing locals? How can the boys stop it? Will they tune in the adult channel after all? The answers to these and other questions… in Unusual Findings.

  • Follow the Sci-Fi coming-of-age story. Three friends fighting together against the unknown… things (maybe against some known things too).

  • See, Grab and Talk action tokens, an inventory to use and combine items and your wits it’s all you need to play.

  • Stylized Pixel Art. All the charm of pixel art of the past with more colors and the new effects of the future. Some pixels look so real they can almost jump out of the screen*

  • Go back to a simpler time where mix tapes were a thing, Commodore 64 was a king, kids could play outside late at night and the only thing to worry about was THE GIANT KILLER ALIEN TRYING TO GET YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS.

  • The decisions you make affect the relations between characters and thus the puzzles, the game progression and the story.

  • The most radical music a synthesizer can play. Cool popular Synthwave Music alongside catchy tunes made exclusively for the game to power up the 80s vibes.

*The pixels do not actually jump out of the screen, In case you actually see a pixel jumping out the screen please visit an ophthalmologist… or/and look for psychological help.

It’s good! It’s fun, charming, and pretty funny. The core game play is challenging but very satisfying, the music is catchy and spaghetti night was just something else.

The game can sometimes be a bit unfair with at times with its unpredictable cues. Levels like “Um…”, “1 Tuna” and “Quiet!” are funny, but they’re not much more than silly jokes and are the weakest part of this game.

That’s where my complaints about the game end though, as this game really shines with the really good levels it has, that thankfully make up the majority of the package. Highlights include “Exit 404”, “Onion Canion”, “Swordfish-Sailfish Speedway”, “Barra2da”, “Starfish” and the new extra level “Spaghetti Speedway” which features vocals.

Amateur reviewer.

From the composer of such albums as Garlic Elevator, Fish Factory, and [CLASSIFIED], as well as a great surreal meme artist, this game is about as much as I expected from such a person. The moment I launched the game I just wanted to sit around and vibe for hours to the title screen music. All the tracks from 01-13 (level 13 I’m stuck on, but believe me, the title sums it up quite well. No further spoilers!) are also amazing. The timing of the fish is enough to make me want to take a moment sometimes, but hey, isn’t that like all rhythm games?

Dracula VS The Ninja On The Moon

Dracula VS The Ninja On The Moon

Dodgy bootleg VHS style interactive FMV were you try to fix the tracking on your VCR to see what happens next in this outrageously silly movie about vampires and ninjas on the moon!

The introduction feels like you’ll be there to see your first born live and die it takes so long. Most importantly though, the game’s main mechanic, the “tracking” is outright broken. Pressing either side does nothing no matter how many times you press, and when a new scene comes it’ll be clear suddenly for no apparent reason.

*** RE-REVIEW UPDATE ON JULY 3, 2021 ***

The developer reached out to me via email and asked me to re-review this game after his updates and “big update 3.0”, so I decided to give his game another chance considering the number of updates this game has seen since my first review more than a year ago…

This video shows my reactions to the current state of this game on July 3rd of 2021:

In all honesty and good faith I cannot recommend this game, as I didn’t enjoy it at all, and I believe that even for a tenth of its price you could buy a better game.

If you want you can watch my first impression and some considerations regarding the game and the studio (one man team) in the following video.

https://youtu.be/66hqI4P99lQ

I think everyone should also take into consideration the statement released by the developer on June 22nd, date that follows the production of my video, where I point out things that were then addressed by Cenokga in the following statement: https://cenokga.com/my-experience-after-first-game-release-a-letter-from-the-developer/
