Defentron

Defentron

Defentron is a pretty relaxing game, despite being a tower defense. The retro look and sound are well done and suitably nostalgic, without needing to rely on gratuitous particle effects, waves, or flashes like some other retro games or genres like to use. The different types of towers all have fun and unique properties, and the enemy variety and additions from stage to stage kept me thinking a good amount, rather than finding one strategy I liked and just using that on everything.

Being able to power up a given turret in a pinch was cool too, but if I have one criticism about that mechanic’s game balance, it’s that it feels necessary to use that function on the basic turrets (at least for the early game), which destroys them afterwards, and it felt like a bit of a waste. That is, instead of trying to plan out placement or turret types to counter different contingencies, I felt like I had to budget my resources to account for “necessary losses” rather than just “acceptable losses,” which made it feel less like a puzzle game at those parts, and more like the traditional gratuitous enemy spam TD games that I don’t like nearly as much as this one.

Defentron is a fun tower defense, and certainly a challenging one. Many levels can really get you stuck until you figure out the right sequence of towers and upgrades to buy, but that difficulty gives the game a lot more longevity and replayability, specially if you are going to try and complete all achievments.

It took me 14 hours to complete everything the game had to offer, which I feel is a good value for the pricetag

Yo! This game is the shit! You all need to make this game for MacBooks so I can play it when I’m with my mom too! This game is very fun and addicting for me, just not good for anyone with sensitive eyes, and again guys, you all should make it available for Macbook

2 points:

  1. Regardless of your susceptibility to epilepsy, this game WILL give you a seizure (note the 5.5 hrs on record - i was not conscious for at least 5 of those hours).

  2. This is not a duck simulator and is exploitive to waterfowl more generally.

All that being said, I recommend this game. …if only to promote a market where more waterfowl is featured in gaming.

Now, I personally recognize my small amount of playtime in this game, Personally I don’t enjoy the gameplay. Although I do see how others could easily like the highscore based, atari-esque games that are contained. Personally I find them all boring and repetitive, the fact that there aren’t any sound settings nor resolution settings is another big turn off. While I wouldn’t personally play it, I do recommend it towards its intended audience

Hack Grid

Hack Grid

Full disclosure: I was a playtester for this game.

In Hack Grid each level has a different setup of pieces and trails within a 4x4 grid (sometimes it’s smaller).

In order to move a piece, it must have a straight line of trails or empty sockets leading to a differently colored piece. What makes the grids interesting is not only the different setups of pieces, but also the way the trails connect between them; It varies from level to level, and sometimes the lack of a direct trail between two pieces can trip you up, if you are not paying enough attention to the trails.

Do you have some free time during your evening? Do you like puzzle games? Are you nostalgic for DOS aesthetics? Great, then Hack Grid is a game just for you!

This is a well-made game. Sure, it’s relatively short, but I think it has just enough puzzles to explore its simple, yet entertaining gameplay. I didn’t encounter any bugs, it runs smoothly. Graphics are minimalistic, very nice, and you can spice them up a little with CRT filter. Puzzle themselves have a right level of difficulty, and you get some new mechanic once in a while, so you don’t get bored.

This game is lovely. It gives the player what it promised, and does it in a fun way. What I would love to see in this game, however, is some sort of competitive style of game-play. Maybe implement a leader board of sorts? It’s just my opinion, as this game is a little bare. With that out of the way, I honestly do enjoy this game.

Friends and I got this game an SRC Leaderboard and the speedrun for both Glitches and Glitchless are pretty fun. Couple of glitches in this game but it makes the speedrun fun and I would recommend this game. The only problem I really have is that it tends to skip frames every now and then but that may be because it wasn’t optimized for more than 60fps.

Really fun and cute game. I enjoyed it all the way to the end and what an end! The puzzles are simple but still worth figuring out. Enjoyed every minute of this game.

That’s where you’re wrong. These same effects are the main part of the game mechanics, which at first didn’t seem to me, but the more I progressed through the levels, the more I saw the importance of using these effects to my advantage, whether to anticipate some moves or to help me stay alive. Gameplay quite different and very attractive 100/100.
